Abstract The ESurveying Softtech Bangalore have recently launched a software for design of water supply distribution network. The software is user friendly and the design outputs are comparable with watergems.

1. INTRODUCTION

Waterisoneofthemostbasicamenitiesrequiredforeverylivingbeing.Apartfromusingthewaterfordomesticneeds,water resourceshavebeenthemostwidelyexploitednaturalsystemsincemanoccupiedthisearth.Theotherbeneficialusesofwater includes,forindustries,generationofelectricpower,transportation,recreationandmanyotheruses.Notonlytheuseofwater isincreasingrapidlywiththegrowthinpopulation,butalsothereisanacuteshortageofbothsurfaceandundergroundwater duetomanymanmadeactivities.Thus,manhimselfistherootcauseofmanyproblemsandthepropermanagementofwater usage,whichassumesagreatimportanceinthismodernworld.

Thewaterdistributionnetworkplaysimportantroleinsupplyingthewatertotheconsumers.Thewaterdistributionnetwork canbedesignedusingsoftwareslikeloop,watergems,epanetetc.OutofthesetheWatergemsfromBentleyisusedwidely.

RecentlyEsurveyingsofttechBangalorehavelaunchedsoftwareforwaterdistributionnetwork,vizEsurveyhydraulics.

1.1 KEY FEATURES OF ESURVEY HYDRAULICS

WaterHydraulicsisbasedontheEPANetEngine. ThedesignoutputcanbeimportedfromEPANETandviceversa.

Innovativemethodstogive theinputsforJunctions,Linkshavebeenadopted,whichincludesattachingdesign andinput parametersinbulk,whichsavesconsiderabletime,whileavoidinginputsasgivenonindividualbasistoJunctionsandlinks.

ExtendedTimesimulationtoolsareprovidedforbetteranalysisoftheflowandheadduringvariousperiods.

AllthecurvesandPatternsarepackedinasinglewindowtoavoidaccessingthemfrommultiplelocations.Theseincludepump curves,HeadLosscurvesetc.anddemandPattern,HeadPatternetc.inPumpandPatternsectionsrespectively. 

Auto updateGroundsurfaceelevationsattheNodefromTIN 

Demand loading is simplified to support calculations with population, peak factors, demand etc. and the same is integratedtohydraulicsmodule. 

Editingofthedataiseasedwiththeprovisionofbulkeditingtool. 

Overshootandundershootissuesareeliminatedwiththevalidationtool. 

Nolimitationonthenumberofnodesorpipesinaproject 

DiameterOptimizerisauniqueandspecialtoolprovidedtoachievethepracticalsolutionforthenetworktoachieve telescopicapproach.Italsoconsidersunitheadlossalongwithvelocityandpressure.

ProvisiontospecifyZoneisanadditionalfeaturewhichcanbeusedasDistrictmeteredareas.  HydraulicentitieslikePump,Valvecanbeusedinmodellingwithpropersettings

2. CONCEPT OF USING ESURVEY HYDRAULICS

TherearemanyfeaturescommonbetweenESurveywaterhydraulicsandwatergemssuchthattheybecomecomparable.Also, watergemshavemorefeatureswhicharesparinglyused.

TheauthorhasstudiedcomparativeanalysisbetweenWatergemsandESurveyHydraulics. AtypicalDMAisconsideredforcomparativeanalysis.TheDMAconsistsofthreewardsandthepopulationdetailsareshownin Annexure1.

4. SUGGETIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

 Furtheradditionofmoduleslikedesignofrisingmain/gravitymainisrequired.

 Theeditingofdrawingistobeimprovedinthesoftwareasincaseofwatergems.

 HoweverallthesefeaturesaremadeavailableincadpackagesbyEsurveywaterhydraulics.

 ProvisionformergingofpopulationdatatothethiessanpolygonismadeinAutoCAD.Thesametobeincludedinthe software

 Consolidatedsummaryofpipescouldbehandyandgoodforreadyreference.
