Abstract Costandscheduleoverrunsarecommoninconstructionprojects.Overrunsareexacerbatedbyrework.Reducing fieldreworkisusuallyviewedasagoodstrategytoboostconstructionproductivity,cost,schedule,quality,andsafety.While therearecurrentreworkreductionprogrammesandalotofliteratureonthesubject,thereisalwaysaneedformoreresearch andongoingenhancementofreworkreductionapproachestoimproveprojectperformance.Thegoalofthisstudyistoidentify, rank,andassessreworkelementsinconstructionprojects,aswellastodetermineoverallreworkcosts.Anonsitequestionnaire survey wasconducted to rank these rework factors,and the data obtained wasanalysed usingmulti criteria decisionand relativeimportancemethodstodeterminetherelativesignificanceofthesevariables,afterwhichthereworkcostwascalculated. Inthisstudy,wediscoveredthatthemostresponsiblefactorsinconstructionprojectsbytheglobalmatrixarepoorconstruction technique,scope,anddesignchange.Theentirecostofreworkisabout15 20%ofthetotalprojectcost.
