Topic: Architecture of Urban Happiness
The global pursuit of economic development has caused detrimental effects on the happiness of people. Many cities have become globalized at the expense of their local culture or social identity and neglected the societal transition impacts of urbanization. As Montogomery ‘s “Happy city” says a liveable city is a happy one. To create a robust and sustainable city, the social and mental well-being of the city-dwellers must be considered. Thus, this thesis aims to create urban happiness by designing a new positive typology that incorporates cultural, communal and therapeutic elements. The design utilises a flexible socio-infrastructural system whereby the architecture is a positive assemblage of live , work, and play that is influenced by the local community behaviours and designed spatially against the urban negativities.
