Legendary Clare fiddler Martin Hayes played the first of a multi-year series of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at Carnegie Hall, presented in collaboration with Irish Arts Center, National Concert Hall, Dublin, and Askonas Holt, and supported by Culture Ireland. The 2026 concert featured Hayes’s Common Ground Ensemble—Cormac McCarthy, Kate Ellis, Kyle Sanna, and Brian Donnellan—and special guests Sam Amidon, Síle Denvir, Nic Gareiss, Stephanie Keane, and Paul Muldoon.

On the Aran Islands, off the coast of Galway, a woman contends with God and the sea for the survival of her family. 20 years on from the formative DruidSynge (2005), Tony Award winners Garry Hynes and Marie Mullen return to the work of one of Ireland’s greatest playwrights for this new production of J. M. Synge’s one-act masterpiece. Riders to the Sea running time is 25 minutes. Presented in a double bill with Macbeth (140 minutes).

The Scottish Play as you’ve never seen it before. Druid brings its visceral and uniquely Irish perspective to one of Shakespeare’s fiercest and bloodiest tragedies. In medieval Scotland, the ambitious army general Macbeth is visited by three witches who foretell his ascension to the throne. In pursuit of this prophecy, and emboldened by his wife, Lady Macbeth, he sets out on a murderous path that threatens to sever the ties that bind their minds, their marriage, and the nation itself. Tony Award winner Garry Hynes directs a cast of 11 of Ireland’s finest actors, led by Marty Rea as Macbeth and fellow Tony winner Marie Mullen as Lady Macbeth. This production follows Druid’s internationally acclaimed DruidShakespeare (2015) and Richard III (2018), and marks the company’s second appearance at IAC after its sold-out presentation of Beckett’s Endgame in 2025.

In Good Trouble, the American historian Forest Issac Jones explores the strong connection between the Black Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the Catholic Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland—specifically the influence of the Selma-to-Montgomery march in 1965 on the People’s Democracy march, from Belfast to Derry, in 1969. Building on unprecedented access and interviews with participants in both movements, Jones crafts a gripping and moving account of these pivotal years for both countries. The author joins us in conversation with Professor John P. Waters of NYU.

Jessie Thompson is a Dublin-based dance artist and choreographer whose practice bridges hip-hop and contemporary dance across theatre, film, and live performance. An Arts Council of Ireland dance artist in residence since 2025 and a project artist at Project Arts Centre, Dublin, she is the founder of the street dance battle platform Battle of Zen and has toured internationally and collaborated with leading artists and companies in Ireland, Europe, and Asia. Her work includes CRAWLER, The Floor is Yours, and AUTOMATA: A Myth Reawakened. She will spend her time at Irish Arts Center researching and developing new work.

The Belfast-based Array Collective creates collaborative actions in response to socio-political issues affecting Northern Ireland, employing craic and collaboration as a means of resistance. Their show at Irish Arts Center draws from a wider trajectory of work developed over the past several years, including the Turner Prize-winning installation The Druthaib’s Ball; An Dún, created for the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s (IMMA) 2023–2024 Self-Determination: A Global Perspective project; and The Goose and the Common, an exhibition commissioned by Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre that upends the language of protest, surveillance, defense, and displacement.

Our spring exhibition features select works by Geraldine O’Neill and Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh, two of Ireland’s most exciting contemporary painters. O’Neill, elected an associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2013 and to Aosdána in 2015, has exhibited extensively in Ireland and internationally, with work shown at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), the National Gallery of Ireland, National Portrait Gallery London, the Florence Biennale, and in Frankfurt. Ní Mhaonaigh— elected president of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2025 and to Aosdána in 2024— has exhibited at major international art fairs including VOLTA New York, Art Market Budapest, Art Rotterdam, and VOLTA Basel, and in public collections including IMMA, the Arts Council of Ireland, Centre Culturel Irlandais (Paris), Ernesto Ventós (Barcelona), and O’Brien Art Collection (Chicago). Both artists are represented in Ireland by Kevin Kavanagh.

This year’s Oíche Shamhna (EE-huh hownah) celebrates Samhain (SOW-in), the ancient Celtic festival that inspired the modern-day holiday of Halloween, with a nod to the mysterious, mystical, and misunderstood cats of Ireland.

Celebrate St. Brigid’s Day and Imbolc, the ancient Irish festival heralding spring and honoring the patron saint and goddess Brigid, with a concert and activities for audiences of all ages! This year’s headliner, Little Roots, created by folk musicians Annie Lynch Stevenson and Maggie Shar, put on a show with illustrated story songs, crankies, movement, and a whole lot of audience participation. After the performance, kids can join us for hot chocolate and Imbolc-inspired crafts. Recommended for ages five and under, but all are welcome.

About Irish Arts Center Irish Arts Center, founded in 1972 and based in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, is a home for artists and audiences of all backgrounds who share a passion or appreciation for the evolving arts and culture of contemporary Ireland and Irish America. We present, develop, and celebrate work from established and emerging artists and cultural practitioners, providing audiences with emotionally and intellectually engaging experiences in an environment of Irish hospitality. Steeped in grassroots traditions, we also provide community education programs and access to the arts for people of all ages and ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 2021, through a historic partnership between the people of Ireland and New York, Irish Arts Center completed construction on a fully funded $60 million state-of-the-art new facility to support this mission for the 21st century, and has begun work on the project’s second phase, the redevelopment of IAC’s adjacent, original 51st Street building.
