Paving The Way - Europe Day IRD Duhallow Celebrates An Historic Day

He suggested pooling together Germany and France’s coal and steel production, paving the way for the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), a predecessor of today’s EU. the ECSC was signed in Paris by six countries, for a 50 year period. Schuman’s proposal is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union. May 9th has now been celebrated as Europe Day ever since 1985. Turn to page 16 to see how IRD Duhallow celebrated this year.
