Across the western world it feels like a sea change is occurring in our politics. At the heart of this is a simple fact: large numbers of people increasingly feel that mainstream politics is failing to deliver for them.
As a result, mainstream parties are seeking to innovate to address these concerns. One proposal is for these mainstream governments to become ‘insurgent’. But this concept has not been fully defined – and new political slogans are easy to say and hard to turn into a reality.
This report attempts to address this: We define an insurgent government as one which elevates the interests of people who have been locked out of power and opportunity – and challenges the status quo on their behalf.
