A Message From the Iowa PGA

We are sure you are all playing as much golf as you can this summer. Whether on our Junior Tour as a Junior Golfer or as a Professional in our Monday Iowa PGA Section events or in our Principal Charity Classic qualifier, John Deere Classic qualifier or in our upcoming Iowa Open. We have had some gentlemen playing some great golf well into their 50’s with more turning 50 this summer and fall. The following gentlemen will tell you that playing in a major is a great honor but is also some of the toughest conditions you will ever find in golf. It makes them appreciate how good those professionals on the tours are that play and qualify each week. However, they have proven that they also have the ability to compete against the best players in the world if they make a few putts and get a couple of breaks. Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville and Judd Gibb of Hansen’s Golf in Ft. Dodge just got done playing in the US Senior Open in Saucon Valley CC in Bethlehem. Jeff played his way into the weekend with rounds of 75-70-73-72=290 to finish in a tie for 33rd place. Judd played but missed the 36-hole cut. Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Golf Course in Waukee, qualified for the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, MI in May. Chad played but missed the 36-hole cut. Sean McCarty, who will turn 50 in September, played in the PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK in May. He fought hard but missed the 36-hole cut. Sean was in a play-off recently with a chance to qualify for his 2nd major of the year, US Open, but missed in a playoff where 5-players were competing for three spots. As McCarty was our Section Champion in 2021, he received an automatic berth into this week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL. We hope that he plays well in the event. It shows you that we have some great golfers in this state that continue to compete at a very high level. We also want to say congrats to some of the Amateur Golfers in the state that compete at a high level on the national level. Some are approaching 60, like Gene Elliott (played the US Senior Am and US Senior Open in 2022) and Mike McCoy. Nate McCoy, Jon Brown, Ethan Mechling, Nate Dunn, Marc Gladson, Josh Manske, Aaron Ahrendsen and Denny Bull to name just a few of the younger golfers in our state continue to compete in the state but also in National Competitions. We always seem to leave a name or two off of this list but we encourage you to follow our great golfers in the state, whether they are PGA Professionals, Touring Professionals or some of our really good Amateur golfers throughout the state and Western Illinois. And we didn’t even mention Ryder Cup Captain and Major Champion Zach Johnson in this article. A brief thanks, as you will see an article on Clair Peterson, the retiring John Deere Classic Tournament Director after 20 years at the helm. Clair and the JDC have been long time sponsors of the golf in Iowa and Western Illinois and specifically our junior programming at the Iowa PGA. Thank you Clair for everything. One of the fall tournaments is an ACE point event on the Iowa PGA Junior Tour, and two are MAJOR point events. 2022 marks the fifth year of the Iowa PGA Fall Series. Meet Kate Cairney

Kate Cairney is our first Tournament Intern for the 2022 season. She is currently attending The University of Iowa, majoring in Sport and Recreation Management. Cairney played golf in high school, and it remains one of her favorite leisure activities. She also has knowledge about the sport and has experiences in tournament setting.

Meet Nolin Bartlett Nolin Bartlett is our second Tournament Intern for the season. Bartlett is currently attending The University of Iowa, majoring in Business Studies in Sport recreation and management. He has a huge interest in golf and has previous experience in both the golf industry and in tournament operations.

Women’s Golf Summit

Iowa Women’s Golf Summit

Williamsburg, Iowa – The Iowa Women’s Golf Summit was held at Stone Creek Golf Club in Williamsburg, Iowa on Sunday, May 23, 2022. For the second time, the Iowa Golf Association, Iowa PGA, Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association and the Tall Corn Chapter of the CMAA will highlight women’s golf and bring patrons together to share their stories. The summit will consisted of two speakers, Jan Herke and Susan Bond, as well as round table discussions and networking opportunities. Attendees had the chance to meet with vendors and sample various products designed with women in mind. This event aimed to bring more ladies to the game and highlight current events impacting women in golf. Jan Herke of Director of Parks & Recreation, City of Urbandale Jan Herke, Director of Urbandale Parks and Rec Department, will share her experiences as a college basketball standout (5th leading scorer at St. Cloud State University), WNBA referee, and now avid amateur golf competitor. Herke, an Ankeny G&CC member, has found camaraderie amongst the active membership which she is part of. Herke will share what first sparked her interest in the game and how she is encouraging more women to enjoy the game she loves. Susan Bond, PGA of Relationship Advisor, PGA Magazine Susan Bond, 30 year member of the PGA of America, has most recently served as the PGA Member Relationship Manager for PGA Magazine. An accomplished player, including victories at the 2019 North Florida Section Northern Chapter Senior Champion (first female to win), 2020 Tennessee Women’s Senior Open and three-time New England Women’s Open Champion, Susan will help moderate group discussions and share her experiences as a PGA Member. She will also provide a national perspective as she assists women to connect and network through her work in the PGA Magazine Women’s Leadership Platform. RULES AND REGULATIONS This event is open to boys and girls at least 7 years of age and no older than 15 as of April 4, 2023. FFA and Iowa Turfgrass A Winning Combination

Jeff Lamoureux | Executive Director | Iowa Turfgrass Institute I was never in FFA (Future Farmers of America). I was a “town kid.” Of course, I knew about FFA and knew people in FFA. In fact, many of my friends were members of FFA. But my mindset was that FFA was for “farm kids” or those that lived in the country. Not for someone who grew up in town and whose dad ran a retail business downtown. The strange thing is, like a lot of my peers, I actually worked quite a bit in agriculture. I spent many hours in the summer walking beans, picking up rock and bailing hay for area farmers. But I never considered myself a candidate as a FFA member. Boy how wrong was I!

So, what is the connection between FFA and Iowa Turfarass Institute? Why support the FFA Foundation? Why spend a day at the conference? Well, I think you can see there is a great opportunity to share the turfgrass industry to the next generation of employees. While some of these students will work in traditional agriculture careers, many are looking for other career opportunities. Several students expressed interest in a career where they can be outdoors. As turfgrass professionals retire or move out of the industry those positions will need to be filled.

Sherlock Named Deacon Palmer

Sherlock Named Deacon Palmer Award Winner Riverside, Iowa - At our Iowa PGA Spring Meeting Matt Sherlock was named the 2021 Iowa PGA Deacon Palmer Award Winner on April 11, 2022. This is a new award that will be awarded on an annual basis to a deserving Iowa PGA Professional. This award bestows special recognition on a PGA Professional who personally displays outstanding integrity, character and leadership, in the effort to overcome a major obstacle in their life. This individual is an unsung hero/heroine at their facility and in their community, who serves to inspire, empower and assist others both inside and outside of the game. Awards Chair JR Millar stated, “Current Honorary President, Matt Sherlock, is our inaugural Deacon Palmer Award winner. Over the past 2 years, while successfully operating Edmundson Golf Course and Harvest Point Golf Course, he added Bos Landen Golf Course. As the Section President, Matt bravely led the section through the COVID19 Pandemic that sadly claimed the life of his father John Sherlock in the November of 2020. Additionally, Matt had major back surgery to remove a growth on his spine in September of 2020 that made it virtually impossible to get more that an hour of sleep at a time. Physically and emotionally exhausted, he continued to be a leader and voice for the Iowa PGA with unwavering professionalism and grace.” The Iowa PGA would like to say congratulations to Matt Sherlock for this honor of all that he’s done and continues to do for the Section.

Sean McCarty McCarty’s first round he carded birdies on holes 6, 8, 9 and 15 including bogeys on holes 2 and 16 which placed him tied for 31st place. McCarty’s oneday total 33-36=69, 2-under-par on the Fazio Foothills Course. McCarty made the 36-Hole Cut at 2-over-par. McCarty’s second round he carded birdies on holes 16 and 18; bogeys on holes 5 and 8 including double bogeys on holes 6 and 11 for a 4-over par round of 74 on the Coore Crenshaw Cliffside Course McCarty’s two-day total 6974=143, +2 and places him tied for 89th place. McCarty made the third round cut of the low 70 player, plus ties. McCarty’s third round included birdies on holes 5, 7, 12, 15 and 18; bogeys on holes 3, 9, 10 and 16 for a 1-over par round of 70 on the Fazio Foothills Course. McCarty’s three-day total of 69-74-70=213, +1 and places him tied for 38th. McCarty advanced to the PGA Championship which was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 19-22, 2022. McCarty’s four-day total of 69-74-70-68=281, -2 and placed him tied for 6th.

Jeff Schmid Schmid’s first round he carded birdies on holes 12, 16 and 17 including bogeys on holes 2 and 6 which placed him tied for 55th place. Schmid’s oneday total 36-33=69, -1 on the Coore Crenshaw Cliffside Course. Schmid made the 36-hole cut at 2-over-par. Schmid’s second round he carded birdies on holes 3, 5, 8, 15 and 17; bogeys on holes 6, 12, 13 and 14 including a double bogey on hole 4 for a one-over par round of 72 on the Fazio Foothills Course. which placed him tied for 51st place. The Drive, Chip & Putt Championship is a national program for juniors 15 and under. Juniors compete in three golf skills - driving, chipping and putting. Juniors first compete at a local qualifier throughout Iowa and Western Illinois, then the top 2 from each local site will advance to one of two Sub-Regionals. The top two Sub-Regional qualifiers in each age division advance to the Regional Final. The overall winner in each age division from the Regional will advance to the Championship at Augusta National! Continued in 2022, the Iowa PGA will be hosting 24 Local Qualifiers. 3 of the 24 qualifiers will be private qualifiers and are open to only members at the courses hosting. Happily, this has resulted in more “name” players committing early to the event at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois. And tournament officials indicated it’s likely more will commit as their personal playing schedules evolve. In addition to defending champion Lucas Glover, several players already have included the $7.1 million John Deere Classic on their respective itineraries. Those include former major championship winners Jason Day, 2015 PGA Championship; JDC executive board member and 2023 Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson, 2007 Masters and 2015 British Open winner, and Webb Simpson, 2012 U.S. Open champion. “We are very excited to have Jason and Webb in the field along with Zach, who has been our most loyal supporter over the years,” said tournament executive director Clair Peterson. “By moving us up one week on the calendar, the 28 Iowa PGA Golf Magazine - Summer Issue

PGA Tour has afforded us the opportunity to attract players who otherwise could not work us into their schedules. As always, players have until the Friday before the tournament to commit to play or change their plans.” Since 2004, the John Deere Classic has been played the week before the British Open, with the exception of 2016 when it was rescheduled to August because of the Olympics. This year, it is being played two weeks before the British and two weeks after the U.S. Open. As a result, players who normally travel to the Open the week before the UK-based tournament are afforded the opportunity to play in the Quad Cities. Three-peat winner and 2021 Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker, who won the 2009-11 JDCs, will be making his only PGA Tour appearance this year at Deere Run. Stricker has said he is playing because this will be Peterson’s last tournament, as the longtime tournament director has announced his retirement. Some other top names who have committed include 2021 Ryder Cup hero Daniel Berger, recent Tour winners J.J. This year’s sponsor exemptions include accomplished young players Chris Gotterup, a fifth-year senior at Oklahoma who recently won this year’s Haskins Award given to the nation’s best college golfer; Patrick Flavin, an Illinois native from Highwood in suburban Chicago who, as of June 7, had Monday-qualified into an impressive four PGA Tour events this season; and recent Duke graduate Quinn Riley, who is ranked No. 1 on the Advocates Pro Golf Tour’s (APGA) Collegiate Ranking, which is designed to evaluate the top players positioned to qualify for the APGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament. The John Deere Classic has a strong record when it comes to its sponsor exemptions. Glover received a sponsor exemption in 2002 and won the 2009 U.S. Open; Day received his first PGA Tour sponsor exemption in 2006 at the John Deere at the age of 17; Simpson received an exemption in 2008; Johnson received exemptions in 2002-03; three-time major winner and two-time JDC champion Jordan Spieth was a 2012 exemption while two-time PGA Champion Justin Thomas got one in 2013. 2020 U.S. Open winner and 2017 JDC champion Bryson DeChambeau received an exemption in 2015. Clair Peterson

Twenty Years Later, John Deere Classic Tournament Director to Retire

Respected and innovative, Clair Peterson helped bring record charitable contributions Clair Peterson graduated from Iowa State with a degree in journalism in 1975, and quickly landed on his feet when he was hired by John Deere. He’s been a Deere man ever since. But his 47-year partnership with John Deere green will end later this year when Peterson, 69, retires. “I’m kind of like the library book that never got returned,” joked Peterson, who has worked as tournament director of the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic as a “loaned” employee [from Deere] since 2002. Truth be told, Peterson didn’t have interest in the tournament director’s position when it first opened up. But he’s become the face of the rarest of PGA Tour stops, a major league event in a minor league market. The Green Bay Packers of the PGA, if you will. “Clair puts others first,” said Iowa native, two-time major champion and 2012 John Deere Classic champion Zach Johnson. “He’s very selfless. That to me seems like a very unique and rare quality.” Johnson also serves on the JDC’s board of directors, giving him a window into the tournament’s operation and the respect Peterson has when he walks in the room.

“I’d been familiar with the tournament since the early days,” Peterson said. “My brother caddied for Bob Goalby in one of the early events at Crow Valley. I knew the importance to the community. And I knew the opportunity (as tournament director) would never come back again.” So Peterson threw his hat into the ring. The competition was strong

Clair Peterson and included some candidates that already were tournament directors at PGA Tour events. But Peterson got the job and has been putting his fingerprints on the JDC ever since. Clair has improved the tournament’s stature tenfold by thinking outside the box. It was his idea to provide non-stop jet service between the Deere and the British Open when it falls on the following week. And there’s Peterson’s desire to give rising players a chance to compete through sponsor’s exemptions. He’s understood the value of the event to the Quad Cities, and the charity arm that encircles the community. The Birdies for Charity program raised $12.56 million in 2021 and has generated $145.66 million since 1971. Ninety-eight percent of that money has come since Deere became the tournament’s title sponsor in 1998.

“I think we’ve solidified the event financially,” Peterson said when asked what he was proudest of. “Obviously, John Deere is a big part of that. Before John Deere became the title sponsor, it was certainly a kind of year-to-year proposition. There were times when they were ready to pull the plug. Now there’s some stability to it. We’ve got a nice financial reserve fund. And we’ve been able to accomplish our charitable mission. We’re kind of the envy of the PGA Tour.” Rick Brown covered golf for the Des Moines Register for nearly four decades and was elected to the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. He has covered the John Deere Classic 39 times.

The 6th Annual Junior Cup Matches will take place on July 9-10 in Eureka, Missouri at Fox Run Golf Club. Last year the Iowa PGA Juniors defeated the Gateway PGA Juniors 26.5 to 5.5. The Junior Cup Matches are a Ryder Cup Style event, which features members of the Iowa PGA Junior Tour facing off against members of the Gateway PGA Junior Tour. Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Golf Hall of Fame had their annual dinner to regongnize the Class of 2022 held on Friday, May 13 at Wakona Club. The Class of 2022 was Mark Egly, Barb (Bubany) Berkmeyer and the late Charles Pribbles. The night was young we had many great speeches made on behalf of each class. Julie Spitzfaden presented Barb (Bubany) Berkmeyer, Greg Mason, Doug Snook and Jeff Wendel presented with Ranella Pribble accepting the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame award for her husband the late Charlie “Pribbs” Pribble and Tess Goudy presented Mark Egly. Congraulations to each of the Classes of 2022. This is such a great honor to accomplish and each of you have done a great job in your career for the Iowa Golf in the state of Iowa.

Coralville, Iowa – Brown Deer Golf Club played host to the 2022 Iowa PGA Spring Meeting and Pro-Pro event. The morning included updates from the PGA of America, Iowa PGA Section Officers and Board. The players also competed in a Pro-Pro event here on Monday, April 4 at Brown Deer Golf Club. Thank you to our Presenting Sponsors Harris Golf Cars and Under Armour. Teams for the Pro-Pro were comprised of two Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-hole Team Event, one of best ball of two format. Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings both of Elmwood Country Club carded bidies on holes 2, 4, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 18 and no bogeys in their round of 63 (8-under-par). Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake and John Shawver of Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center, Mark Atchison of Des Moines Golf & Country Club and Tracy Vest of Blue Top Ridge tied for second place with 64 (7-under-par). Ames, Iowa – Sean McCarty and Jeff Schmid both of Brown Deer Golf Club won the Pro-Pro #1, Monday, April 11 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. McCarty and Schmid turned in 8-under-par 64 to capture the win. Teams for Pro-Pro #1 were comprised of two Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-Hole Team Event, one of best ball of two format. McCarty and Schmid carded birdies on holes 1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12,15 and 18. Runner up team of Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings both of Elmwood Country Club carded birdies on holes 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 18 including a bogey on hole 8 for a 7-under-par 65. In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Pro-Pro #1 featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions. Open Division winner Giannetto claimed first place in the Open Division with a 5-under-par 67. Giannetto carded birdies on holes 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 16 and 18 including bogeys on holes 4 and 8. Iowa PGA 36 Hole Classic Presented by Mizuno April 25, 2022 | Oakwood Country Club

(Pictured is Smith, Steffen and Schmid) Coal Valley, Illinois – Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course won the 36-Hole Classic presented by Mizuno Golf, Monday, April 25 at Oakwood Country Club with a four-under par total in very tough, cold and windy conditions. The Iowa PGA 36-Hole Classic presented by Mizuno Golf featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions. The Open Division winner Steffen fired a 1-under par round of 70 to go along with afternoon round of 3-under par 68 to finish the 36-hole event at 138 (4-under par). Tied for second were Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club (70-73=143) and Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club (70-73=143) and one-over par. The Senior Division winner was Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club with rounds of 73-72=145 (three-over par). Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf finished in solo second with rounds of 75-76=151 (nine-over par). The Super Senior Division winner was Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course with rounds of 76-76=152 (ten-over par). Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course celebrated his birthday today with a second place finish with rounds of 7977=156 (fourteen-over par). Silvis, Illinois – Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club won the Pro-Pro #2 Monday, May 2 at TPC Deere Run. Giannetto & Jennings turned in a round of 7-under-par 64 to capture the win. Giannetto & Jennings carded birdies on holes 2, 10, 11, 13, 14,16 and 17; double bogey on hole 18 and an eagle on hole 1 to capture the win. John Bermel and Jacob Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and Matt Erger and Ben Montgomery of Airport National Golf Complex all tied for second place. Both teams turned in rounds of 6-under-par 65. Jennings claimed first place in the Open Division with a 5-under-par 66. Jennings carded birdies on holes 2, 10, 13, 14, 16 and 17; bogey on hole 7; double bogey on hole 18 and an eagle on hole 1. The teams scores of 13-under-par 121. Teams for Team All Pro were comprised of four Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-Hole Stroke Play, Team – 1 Best Ball of 4 on Par 5’s, 2 Best Balls of 4 on Par 4’s, 3 Best Balls of 4 on Par 3’s. In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Team All Pro featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions. Jennings took home first place in the Open Division with rounds of 8-under-par 64. Jennings turned in birdies on holes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 14 and 16. Junior Academy Stroke Play Event June 14, 2022 | Pheasant Ridge Golf Course

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf and Tracy Vest both tied for first place in the Individual Junior Academy Stroke Play event on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Gibb and Vest both turned in E-par round of 72. Gibb carded birdies on holes 3, 4 and 11 including bogeys on holes 10, 16 and 17. Vest carded birdies on holes 3, 4, 7 and 17 with an eagle on hole 17 including a double bogey on hole 10. There was also a team event where Professionals were paired with three Junior Academy participants for a fun team event. The Junior Golfers played a three-person best shot (scramble) and the Professionals played their own ball. The team score was the better score of the two scores (1-best ball). Gibb and his team of Lily Barker, Taylor Rasmussen, Kaden Kopsa and Joel Peterson won the Junior Academy Stroke Play Team event by shooting a 12-under par round of 60. Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play Event June 15, 2022 | Pheasant Ridge Golf Course

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course won the Individual Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play event on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Schnell turned in a 2-under-par round of 70 to capture the win. Schnell carded birdies on holes 3, 8 and 12 including a bogey on hole 5. Terry Anderson of Elks Country Club and Schnell both tied for first place in the Super Senior Division with a 2-under-par round of 70. There was also a team event where Professionals were paired with three Junior Academy participants for a fun team event. The Junior Golfers played a three-person shambles and the Professionals played their own ball. The team score was two best balls of four. John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and his team of Shaylin Munson, Gabe Kramer and Kate Altorfer and Hannah Bermel and her team of Han nah Patrick, Kaden Kopsa and Joel Peterson tied for first place in the Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play Team event by shooting 4-under-par 140. Pleasant Valley, Iowa – Pleasant Valley, Iowa – The Champions of the Boy Scouts Pro-Am presented by Boy Scouts of America are David Lawrence of Davenport Country Club and his team of Derek Cockell, Matt Spray, Scott Jensen and Brad Lucas with 54 quota points. The teams of John Panek of Davenport Country Club and teammates Lee Stack, Jim Von Maur, John Staak and Scott McDonald and team Allan Miller of Tour Edge and teammates Ryan Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Ben Palmer and John Rock finished the event with 46 quota points. Teams for Boy Scouts Pro-AM were comprised of 18-Hole, Individual Stableford with Open, Senior & Super Senior Division. Boy Scouts will supply amateurs. In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Boy Scouts Pro-AM featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions. Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club won the Open Division finished with 31 quota points. Runner up Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake finished with 29 quota points. Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course also won the Senior Division with 28 quota points. Runner up Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course finished with 23 quota points.

42nd Annual Junior Golf Academy June 12-16, 2022 | Phesant Ridge Golf Course

Cedar Falls, Iowa – The 42nd Annual Iowa PGA Junior Golf Academy is traditionally a 5-day, 4-night premier golf camp scheduled to be held Sunday, June 12 through Thursday, June 16 at Pheasant Ridge GC and the University of Northern Iowa. The Iowa PGA plans to host this year’s camp at UNI and Pheasant Ridge GC with overnight component. Modifcations will be made based on any restrictions in place. John Bermel, Head PGA Professional at Pheasant Ridge GC and Head Coach of the Men and Women’s golf teams at UNI, has been the lead instructor for the academy for over 25 years. In 2007, the Iowa PGA formed a partnership with Riverside Casino and Golf Resort and Iowa City VA Health Care System to form the GIVE Foundation. This Foundation is a not-for-profit organization to provide a structured golf program for injured veterans.

Iowa PGA Foundation Swings with Kids Program How Does the Swings with Kids Program Work? Our goal is to have PGA Professionals partner with school districts to raise funds for the equipment.The equipment is specially designed for safe, indoor and outdoor use and comes with complete curriculum and activities, allowing PE teachers to easily implement the program in their classes. Exposing more children to golf in a fun environment will hopefully encourage their continued play throughout life. This is a great way to strengthen golf in your school district!

Charlie Burkart Scholarship The Iowa PGA Foundation annually awards a college scholarship in memory of Charlie Burkart, PGA member for 49 years and head professional at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 42 years. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students with their education. The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who will continue contributing to the game of golf.

Drive, Chip and Putt is the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15. Participants who advance through Local, Sub-Regional and Regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel.

PGA Jr. League is a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls, ages 13 and under, to learn and enjoy the game of golf from PGA and LPGA Professionals. Like many other recreational youth sports, participants wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with friends.
