FOREWORD What an amazing year we’ve had in 2023, but as always, we must smile fondly at these memories and continue to look ahead to a New and exciting season, as we once again begin a wonderful and prosperous New year here in Íontas. Our ongoing resolution is to present to you, our valued patrons, visitors and community, a selection of events, shows, and activities to broaden your creativity and hopefully inspire you to explore something new this year. And we must once again say a special thank you to all our generous supporters in Monaghan CoCo, Creative Ireland, Pobal and everyone else who contributes to the running and ongoing success of our organisation. We kick off with our annual Panto, this year Peter Pan! A fun family show for everyone… And that’s not all! We have the amazing “There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly”, a fun musical adventure for young kids, not to mention expert Bubbleologist Ray and his Ultimate Bubble Show!! For the adults we have Bernie Jones’s New chapter… “Absolutely Flabulous” and the third instalment of Mikel Murfi’s trilogy “The Curious Case of Kitsey Rainey”, after his major success with “The Man in the Woman’s shoes”, and “I Hear you and Rejoice…” Our Gallery will showcase many local artists this year, such as Castleblayney natives Eimhin Farrell, with his wonderful etchings of Muckno, and Grainne O’Reilly who specializes in works suitable for any interior space. We also welcome two very special exhibitions this year, INWARD, an interactive exhibition highlighting the challenges of Autism, and HEROINES, a high profile collection of portraits celebrating the women who contributed to the peace process, which will call Íontas it’s temporary home after touring from both Áras an Uachtaráin and Stormont. We also look forward to a new season of films with The BF@Í Film Club, which continues to grow strong year after year. After a number of years, we are hosting the renowned Shane Martin once again for a special evening of reflection, comedy, psychology and profound self-discovery. We also have Pat Shortt returning once again with his daughter Faye for an evening of hilarious sketches and all round tomfoolery! Speaking of comedy, have we a whopper line up this year… Comedy legends Jason Byrne, Neil Delamere, Jarlath Regan, and after an amazing 2 sold out gigs with Tommy Tiernan last summer, we are proud to welcome back the hilarious John Colleary for his own stand-up show here in Íontas. We have on our musical program this year the hugely celebrated Brian Kennedy, as well as one of the biggest generational bands from Ireland, Something Happens! Our usual Celebration of country music here in Blayney will continue through the spring and summer with Susan McCann, Derek Ryan, Philomena Begley & Ray Lynham, Patrick Feeney, Declan Nerney, and we especially welcome the young and extremely talented Eoin Mac, and all the way from Scotland on his sellout tour, Brandon McPhee. Of course, If you like a mix of everything, the “legends of American Country” are the perfect remedy! Our music continues with Flash Harry, the amazing Queen tribute Act, as well as “The Greatest 80’s Show”. We also look forward to The Muckno Singers BROADWAY and Castleblayney Musical Society’s new show “Heaven Sent”. We have a wide selection of drama to look forward to this year… “Matches & Old flames” from Crokey Hill promises a laugh-a-minute, and Tydavnet will perform their take on “Dancing at Lughnasa”. Castleblayney Players are presenting a tasting of One Acts for us, and of course one of our biggest events of the year, our Annual Castleblayney Drama festival, will undoubtedly be our best yet! So, from all the team here, we wish you the very best for 2024, and as a little resolution for yourself, why not try something new? Take in a show… Explore one of our exhibitions… You never know, you might just surprise yourself!!! Pat and Faye Shortt return with their new show “Knuckle Down” The new show “Knuckle Down” doesn’t disappoint. Characters such as “Michael” (Pat Shortt) the hapless builder (Followed weekly on Tik Tok, X, Insta and Facebook by hundreds of thousands) seems to have the answer to all things that are wrong in the world and shares the advice gifted to him by his late grandmother from Tipperary. Another outrageous character is the “mother of the child” (Faye Shortt) at the school railings waiting to pick up her child PJ, it’s not like her at all to talk bad about anyone but she just can’t help herself, sharing her views on the school principal and her tummy tucking friend back from Turkey. The sharp wit and physical comedy genius of this comedic duo will have you in pain with laughter. Knuckle down is touring Ireland and will be at a Íontas very soon.

It’s 1936, and harvest time has come in Ballybeg, a village in the Ireland’s northwestern county, Donegal. This play centres on the Mundy sisters, as the constitution of Ireland is being conceived and the hopes of summer and the possibility of love feel like they are in the grasp of these extraordinary, ordinary women. These Five sisters living in poverty are struggling to raise seven-year-old Michael, while also caring for their Uncle Jack. As they fight and love, yearn and survive, the family’s world arrives on the brink of change during the Festival of Lughnasa where pagan and Christian traditions convene. Dancing at Lughnasa is a play about female resilience and the sacrifices we choose, and are forced, to make. Although inevitably tragic, it celebrates the truth and beauty of these women and reminds us of how far away freedom is for so many.

NATURAL STUDIES BY EIMHIN FARRELL 12TH JUNE TO 30TH JULY Castleblayney artist Eimhin Farrell’s first solo exhibition “Natural Studies” features a series of his etchings, created over the last 18 months, and inspired by natural imagery around County Monaghan, particularly the Muckno and Rossmore Park areas. Eimhin takes a great interest in traditional intaglio printmaking aesthetic, and has put a contemporary twist on this style, while using local flora and geographical features as the subject of his prints.
