Mission of Iona Prep Iona Preparatory School is a Catholic community inspired by the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice as expressed in the Essential Elements of a Christian Brothers Education. We develop young men into moral and ethical leaders who are dedicated to Christian service and who strive for spiritual, intellectual and physical excellence.

The Academic Program Characteristics All students are required to take 29 credits including four years of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Theology, plus three years of a Foreign Language (unless exempt through accommodations). Half-year courses are required in Music, Studio Art, Health, Speech Communication, MS Office and Expository Writing. Elective courses in Broadcast Journalism, Concert Band and Philosophy can also be taken. Two credits of Physical Education over four years must also be completed. 29 credits exceed the New York State standard of 22 credits. Superior Talent Enrichment Program (STEP/High Honors) and AP Placement Fifteen percent of each entering class are invited into the STEP or High Honors Program. These students scored in the first decile on the entrance exam. There are two paths within the program: Humanities based in English and History, and STEM based in accelerated Math and Science. This accelerated path includes access to an Advanced Placement course in freshman year. These students have consistently scored above 1300 on the SAT composite of Math and Reading. Access to AP and honors courses are contingent upon a grade of 95 or above in a previous subject class or continuing the level of course study with a grade of 88 or above. ● AP Scholars - 83 (2024-2025) ● AP Passing Rate - 78% (2024-2025)
