Welcome to one of the most beautiful and inspiring places in the world! This is not just an empty boast. The prestigious National Geographic selected it as one of the top 3 gardens in the world and the daily responses from our visitors continually confirm the life enhancing nature of visiting Powerscourt.
Pet Cemetery One of the most interesting parts of Powerscourt Gardens is the pet’s cemetery which is the resting place of the much loved pets of the Wingfield and Slazenger families. It’s situated in a quiet part of the gardens where you can enjoy the striking colours of Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Roses.
“Welcome to one of the most beautiful and inspiring places in the world! This is not just an empty boast. The prestigious National Geographic selected it as one of the top 3 gardens in the world and the daily responses from our visitors continually confirm the life enhancing nature of visiting Powerscourt. One visit is rarely enough.
There is so much to see and enjoy in Powerscourt Estate including the gardens, the scrumptious home-made food in the

Terrace Café, the championship golf, and the highest waterfall in Ireland.
Our gardens offer many hidden treasures – from a walk through the formal Italian garden, to exploring the pathways and secret grotto in the Japanese garden, to marvelling at the range and record-breaking size of our trees.
My family have now been custodians of Powerscourt Estate for over 50 years and we are so pleased that you are visiting

Powerscourt and thus becoming part of its rich and extraordinary history.”
Powerscourt Gardens were recently voted No.3 in the World’s Top Ten Gardens by National Geographic. The Gardens stretch over 47 acres and offer visitors a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, statues and ornamental lakes, secret hollows and rambling walks.
Managed by Head Gardener, Alex Slazenger and a team of four gardeners, Powerscourt Gardens were designed from 1731 onwards, with the desire to create a garden which was part of the wider surrounding landscape.
Powerscourt Gardens include The Walled Gardens, The Italian Garden, The Dolphin Pond, The Japanese Gardens, Pets Cemetery and Pepperpot Tower, among other features and attractions.
The symbolism of the garden
The Japanese Garden looks wonderful in spring when the azaleas are in full bloom and their blossoms perfume the air, and in autumn with the vibrant colours of the Japanese maples. Stone lanterns guide

you through the winding paths of the garden, bringing you to its innermost circle.
Here you will find a Pagoda and a trickling stream under pretty Japanese bridges. The next circle is marked by a ring of Chinese Fortune Palms, which have been cultivated in China and Japan for thousands of years and were first brought to Europe in 1830.
The upper circle provides stunning views of the Japanese Garden and the Sugar Loaf Mountain in the distance. There is a beautiful concept behind each of these circles: working inwards, we discover our inner selves; working outwards and upwards we gain greater knowledge of the world around us.
Powerscourt Gardens include The Walled Gardens, The Italian Garden, The Dolphin Pond, The Japanese Gardens, Pets Cemetery and Pepperpot Tower,
The Pepperpot Tower In Tower Valley you will find the Pepperpot Tower which was modelled on a pepperpot from Lord Powerscourt’s dining table! It is from this that Tower Valley received its distinctive name. Climb the tower’s winding steps and enjoy the views of Powerscourt House and Gardens.

The 2000 metre beech hedge maze is a fascinating feature at Russborough. A statue of Cupid stands proudly on a column at the centre of the maze to help you find your way. Very popular with

The Self-Guided Exhibition “An interactive exhibition suitable for young and old alike”
A few years ago, a fascinating discovery led to a completely new facet of the Russborough experience when five-thousand 3D glass negatives and cinema footage of Sir Alfred’s world travels were discovered in the basement. A team worked tirelessly to archive every last detail in order to bring something special to the general public.

Children’s Playground Playground
Voted one of the top playgrounds in the country by the Irish Times, children aged 2-12 will find lots of adventure in our play area with its mix of fun and challenging equipment including wooden framed swings, a sandpit, slides and spider web climbing frame.
The result is the 3D exhibition, which honours Sir Alfred’s love of capturing magical moments with his camera and brings to light many other fascinating aspects of the Beits’ time at Russborough.

The Bird of Prey Centre
The National Bird of Prey Centre is an outdoor educational centre where eagles, owls, hawks and falcons from around the world can be seen on display.
The centre opened on the grounds of Russborough House and Parklands in May 2016 and is home to over forty different Birds of Prey including the recently re introduced golden eagle, white tailed sea eagle and red kite.
During your visit to the centre you will be given an expert guided tour about all of the birds on display, followed by a handling session with some of our hand reared owls.
Lady’s Island at Russborough is an enchanted land that is home to a growing number of magical fairy folk. Some of the fairies have lived in their beautifully quaint homes for more than 270 years. With many of our long-term resident fairies completing home improvements over the Winter, Lady’s Island has become a very fashionable fairy address and many clever fairies have made the move to Russborough.

Nestled in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains lies apicturesque valley and a lake that oddly resembles our favourite alcoholic beverage – Lough Tay, or the Guinness Lake.
Not
only is Lough Tay beautiful to look upon, but it’s steeped in history as well.
The Guinness family are said to have had the lake’s white sand imported to give it that distinctive look. This eye-catching shore was at the entrance of their 6,000 acre estate Luggala – complete with a castle and smaller lodges – which is now available for rent.
Luggala is an ornate, 18th century hunting lodge that resembles a small castle. Even legends Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger from The Rolling Stones, Hollywood film
star Charlotte Rampling, and The Beatles themselves have partied there.
And they all got to enjoy this view.
Along with Glendalough, the Guinness Lake is one of the most photographed spots in Wicklow.
Easily one of the most beautiful spots in the country, too.
If you’ve never been, plan that trip immediately. You can thank us after.

From Dublin, take the M50 south, then take the N11 exit toward Roundwood/ Glendalough. From there, it’s under 20 minutes to Luggala Lodge where you can park up. Head for Knocknacloghoge to look down over Lough Dan, or go up Luggala mountain to avail of some incredible views over Lough Tay.
The dark peaty water of the lake, combined with its oval shape and frothy white sand, makes it appear as if you’re overlooking a large pint of Guinness, surrounded by green, rolling mountains.

Powerscourt Waterfall is Ireland’s highest at 121m (398ft.) and is 6km from the Main Estate. It is set in one of Ireland’s most beautiful parklands at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains.

Asyou drive from the gate lodge towards the Waterfall you are surrounded by Beech, Oak, Larch and Pine trees some of which were planted over 200 years ago. Look out for the Giant Redwoods, which are native to Northern California where they may grow up to 80m high and live for 4,000 years so they are still youngsters!
The Waterfall is an ideal location for summer picnics and barbecues. There is a vast amount of space to keep children entertained. There is also a playground for younger children. But be mindful of the other inhabitants of the parkland! It is a haven for wildlife and children can have fun trying to spot some of the locals – the Chaffinch, Cuckoo, Raven and the Willow Warbler. Some other inhabitants are the Sika Deer which were introduced to Ireland in 1858 and there may be a red squirrel or two.
Don’t fret if you forget your picnic as there is a kiosk on site that serves everything from coffee and tea to hot-dogs and ice-cream. The kiosk is open everyday from the 1st June to the end of August and year round at weekends, if weather permits. There is ample car parking and toilet facilities at the waterfall. Dogs are welcome but they must be on a leash.
Take time to explore the pathways that meander through the flora and fauna, walk along the woodland pathways and listen to the birdsong.
The Waterfall is located 6km from Powerscourt Estate. From Dublin City and Wexford take Exit 8. After 2 km take the first left towards Enniskerry and follow the signs for Powerscourt Waterfall. We would not recommend walking to the waterfall from Powerscourt Estate as there are no footpaths for part of the journey. Car / Taxi are the best options for visiting the waterfall.
• The Waterfall is closed from December 11th - December 26th at 10.30am.
• Jan/Feb/Nov/Dec 10.30am – 4.00pm (Last admission 3.30pm)

• Adults €6, Student/OAP - €5.50
• Child (U12) €3.50, Children (U2)Free
• Family Ticket €16.00 (2 adults & up to 3 children)

Please note:
• Dogs are welcome in Glendalough but MUST be kept on leads at all times and owners are to dispose of any dirt.
• There are toilet facilities for public use at the Monastic Site (Visitor Centre) and also at the Upper Lake Car Park area.
• There is no ATM in Glendalough but there is an ATM in Laragh village at the petrol station inside the Shop (opening hours only). The next nearest ATM is outside the bank in Rathdrum (24 hours).

For thousands of years people have been drawn to ‘the valley of the two lakes for its spectacular scenery, rich history, archaeology and abundant wildlife. Glendalough is a remarkable place that will still your mind, inspire your heart and fill your soul.
Renowned for it’s magnificent scenery, Glendalough derives its name from the Irish ‘Gleann dá Locha’, or ‘valley of the two lakes’. It is a glacial valley formed during the last ice age. In addition to the natural beauty of the two lakes - upper and lower and the
surrounding mountains, the valley is also home to one of Ireland’s most impressive monastic sites founded by St. Kevin in the 6th Century. All these combine to make this the most visited areas in the Wicklow Mountains National Park
The Glendalough Valley is deep and narrow with the typical U-shape typical of those carved out by glaciers during the last Ice Age. Originally Glendalough was made up of one lake only but Lugduff Brook flowed into the middle of the lake depositing sediments that accumulated over time dividing the
lake into the two we know today. (The lawns and car park at the Upper Lake now sit on top of these deposits!).
The valley is surrounded by high mountains with summits rising over 650 metres (2132 feet) and the Upper Lake, the larger of the two, is 30 metres deep at its deepest point.

One of only 3 Irish gardens with a top rating from the UK’s The Good Gardens Guide, Mount Usher is not simply one of Ireland’s greatest gardens, but it’s a worldclass example of a so-called Robinsonian garden, with its relaxed informality and natural layout.
“Top Rated Irish Garden by the Good Gardens Guide”
Mount Usher Gardens, with its Avoca Garden Café and Courtyard Shops is situated in the village of Ashford, just 35 minutes south of Dublin city, and close to the seaside towns of Bray, Wicklow and Arklow. The National Botanic Gardens, Kilmacurragh occupies a large estate planted during the nineteeth century by Thomas Acton in conjunction with David Moore and his son Sir Frederick Moore, curators of the National Botanic Gardens at that time. It was a period of great botanical and geographical explorations with numerous plant species from around the world being introduced to Ireland for the first time. The different soil and climatic conditions at Kilmacurragh resulted in many of these specimens succeeding there while struggling or failing at Glasnevin. Kilmacurragh is particularly famous for its conifers and rhododendron collections. Open: Winter: November to February: 9am – 4.30pm Summer: March to October 9am – 6pm. Admission: Free.
Facilities: Mostly Wheelchair Accessible, Toilets, Child Friendly, Pet Friendly (dogs on leads), Find KilmacurraghKilmacurragh is easily accessible by car, and is located just 5km off the N11, on the right turn after the Beehive pub. There is plenty of free car parking available.
