Donation to filu Ganawenda fabric will be donated to FILU (Family Information Liaison Units). The fabric will be donated to create blankets, ribbons skirts, and ribbon shirts for families affected by Missing and Murdered Indigenous people. It is an organization that supports MMIW and advocates for justice for families.

About FILU: Family Information Liaison Units Family Information Liaison Units (FILUs) provide specialized services to families of missing and murdered Indigenous people (MMIWG) In 2016, FILUs were established to support families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people. In 2023, the Government of Canada increased support to allow FILUs to serve families of all missing and murdered Indigenous people, including men and boys. FILUs help families access all the available information they are seeking about their missing and murdered loved ones from multiple government sources. FILUs are delivered through victim services and Indigenous community organizations and are available in every province and territory.

JESSICA SOMERS Abenakis and Metis Decent

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, and currently living in Lavigne Ontario, Jessica Somers is Abenaki from Odanak. Deeply influenced by her grandmother’s love for scenic and wildlife painting and her father’s dedication to carpentry, Jessica developed a strong artistic foundation rooted in hard work, creativity, and cultural expression. Jessica’s artwork is a reflection of the natural world and the ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. Inspired by the teachings of elders in her community and Nation, she creates paintings that honor her heritage, preserving and sharing stories that connect past and present. Through her art, Jessica seeks peace, shares wisdom, teaches moral lessons, and tells meaningful stories. She views art as an act of survivance— a way to uphold history, express Indigenous identity, and keep traditions alive for future generations.
