london calling
Head up to floor 10 to test drive Jonathan Prestwich’s handy Essens occasional tables with conical bases made of recyclable polyethylene and tops in a plethora of materials at Sandler. Of course, the U.K. brand helmed by CEO Roy Sandler is best known for its seating, so there’s plenty of that on show, too, including Woodlook, an armchair that’s not timber but rather aluminum with a highly realistic baked-on wood-grain film. space 1091

family history The latest Dorothy Cosonas upholstery collection for Wolf-Gordon, Crossings (named after the vertical and horizontal intersection of warp and weft), is highly personal, taking direct inspiration from needlework made by her mother in finishing school. Dreamweaver is the foundation, a SKU melding seven different yarn colors into a tweedy striated surface design that is familiar yet striking. The construction is polyester, partly postconsumer-recycled, with an environmentally correct topcoat and backing that renders the textile bleach-cleanable. space 10-161
too good! Poltrona Frau’s collaboration with Faye Toogood is on show at Haworth. Named Squash, the collection reflects her soft, sculptural approach to furniture, particularly the armchair, with its effortlessly cool baggy and wrinkled leather upholstery. In red, it nods to Renzo Frau’s 1930’s Vanity Fair chair, whose archival bright-red leather Toogood fell for during a trip to the manufacturer’s Tolentino, Italy, factory. “It feels very refreshing to make a chair in such a strong, saturated shade,” the British design phenom notes. Agreed! space 312
