well-designed salon isn’t an expense—it’s an asset
A 2026 salon refresh should be built on longevity and profit. Every decision you make —layout, furniture, lighting, finishes—needs to work hard for your business, not just look good for a moment in time.
The most successful salons I’ve worked with over the years aren’t the trendiest. They’re the ones that still look right years later, operate efficiently day in, day out, and don’t require constant updating to stay relevant.

Longevity comes from getting the fundamentals right. Choosing materials that last. Designing a layout that improves workflow. Investing where it matters—and saving where it doesn’t. It’s about creating a space that continues to perform, not just impress.
So as you look at refreshing your salon this year, don’t ask what’s fashionable. Ask what’s going to work, what’s going to last—and what’s going to make you more money.
That’s where good design becomes smart business.
Colour is often the first thing salon owners want to change—but it’s also where mistakes happen fastest.
Long-term colour schemes aren’t about playing it safe— they’re about creating a strong, flexible foundation.

Neutral bases such as warm beiges, soft greys, and earthy tones continue to outperform trend-led colours because they evolve easily with your brand. You can update accents, retail displays, or styling areas without needing a full repaint.

This is also where smart budgeting comes in. Not everything needs to be top-end—but key touchpoints should be. Styling chairs, backwash units, and reception seating are used constantly, so investing here pays off. Meanwhile, savings can be made on less critical items without compromising the overall look.
need comfort. Clients expect it

Timeless furniture design leans towards clean lines, wellproportioned shapes, and durable finishes. Avoid overly stylised pieces that can quickly feel dated. Instead, focus on versatility—chairs and units that would still look appropriate in five years’ time.

Often, the biggest improvements come from rethinking your layout rather than replacing everything.
Relocating styling positions, opening up walkways, or improving client flow can transform how your salon operates —without major cost.

Refreshing can be as simple as updating mirrors, lighting, or feature areas. Even small changes—like repositioning retail or redefining waiting spaces—can modernise the feel of your salon instantly.

Refurnishing should be targeted. Replace what’s worn, uncomfortable, or no longer fits your workflow. Keep what still performs well.

The trends that do deserve investment are those that improve function and client experience. Better lighting, more efficient layouts, ergonomic furniture, and integrated retail areas all contribute to stronger business performance.

Before investing in any trend, ask a simple question: Will this still work for my business in five years?
