Lavender'sstorybeginsinSteubenville,Ohio,asteelcity perchedalongtheOhioRiverthathaslongproduced determined,hard-edged,anddeeplyloyalindividuals.He excelledbothintheclassroomandontheathleticfieldat SteubenvilleHighSchool,graduatingin2014withthedual identitythatdefinesthebeststudent-athletes:equalparts competitivefireandacademicseriousness.Thosetwin engineswouldpowereverythingthatfollowed.
HecarriedbothpassionstoTiffinUniversity,wherehe earnedaBachelor'sdegreeinSportsMarketingand Managementin2020.Theprogramgavehimsomething beyondacredential.Ithandedhimaworkinglensthrough whichtoexaminetheintersectionofcommunity, commerce,andhumanpotential.Ittrainedhimtospotgaps, designsolutions,andbuildprogramswithenoughstructural integritytogeneratelastingresults.Theeducationwas valuable.Butitwastheseasonthatfollowedgraduation thattrulybeganshapingthemanLavenderwasbecoming.
Withhisdegreecompletedandhisambitionstillburning, hesethissightsonTokyo,trainingwithrelentlessfocus towardalifelongOlympicdream.Henarrowlymissedthe cutforthe2020U.S.OlympicTeam,aheartbreakthat
wouldhavestoppedmanyathletescold.Instead,Lavender pivotedwithcharacteristicboldness,earninganinvitation totheTeamUSARookieCampforSkeleton,awintersport thatsendsathletesflyingheadfirstdownanicytrackat speedsexceeding80milesperhour.Fearlessness,it becomesclearveryquickly,isnotaqualityLavender developed.Itissimplywhoheis.
In2021,Lavendermadeadecisionthatsurprisedmany whoknewhimasarelentlesscompetitor.Heretiredfrom professionalsportsatjust25yearsold.Fromtheoutside,it lookedlikeclosure,thefinalchapterofanathleticcareer thathadcomesoclosetoitsgreatestgoal.FromLavender's ownvantagepoint,itwasthemostconsequentialbeginning ofhislife.
