The third year musicals are the culmination of three years of hard work! A unique moment where students put together all the disciplines of theatre into one special production. A moment where students get to experience and understand the rehearsal process as it will be in the professional industry; the development of storytelling through the mediums of song and dance, where characters come to life. As Principal and Artistic Director of the college, it has been my life’s work to tell stories this way, through the very special art form of musical theatre. I am excited to watch our third year musicals and see our students flourish. This is the first step on their journey to becoming professionals.
I can’t wait to see your talent and creativity shine!

Musical
Alex Turney - I’m absolutely delighted to be Musical Director for The Wedding Singer at Laine Theatre Arts. I’m a vocalist, multiinstrumentalist, and musical director, and my career began as a performer in numerous productions, including the original West End cast of Once the Musical. Since then, I’ve worked across performance, musical supervision, and education on a wide range of professional projects.
My professional credits include musically supervising multiple pantomimes each year with Evolution Productions, working as musical director for Gareth Gates and his tours, and supervising touring productions with Strictly Theatre Co alongside stars such as Anton Du Beke, Giovanni Pernice, and Vincent Simone. I also oversee music for the award-winning show Frankie’s Guys and the UK’s number one drag show Queenz.
Alongside my professional work, I’ve always had a strong passion for teaching and developing young performers. I currently teach at a number of colleges, as well as at Laine Theatre Arts, where I absolutely love being part of such a supportive and inspiring training environment.
I’m also currently studying for a PGCE, further deepening my commitment to education.
The Wedding Singer marks my first time musically directing a musical at Laine, and I couldn’t be prouder of the cast and creative team.
