RESOLUTION CON GRATULATIN G DOLLY DE LEON FOR BEIN G THE FIRST FILIPIN O ACTOR TO BE N OMIN ATED FOR THE BRITISH ACADEMY FILM AWARDS (BAFTA) AN D THE GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS WHEREAS, earlier this month, Dolly de Leon made history as the first Filipino actor to be nominated at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and the Golden Globe Awards for her best supporting actress role in the Palm d'Or winner Triangle of Sadness 1; WHEREAS, her nomination in the aforementioned awards body and her victories in the Guldbagge Awards and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association show that Filipino stories, experiences, and talent have a place in the halls of prestigious award giving bodies; WHEREAS, despite De Leon's career spanning 33 years, she is yet to break through in the cinema and film industry of her own country and in a twist of fate, has found more success in the international movie scene; WHEREAS, the veteran actress, who has played 'nameless and sometimes line-less 3 characters' 2 and has been dubbed a 'titanic talent in bit roles' , dedicated her nomination to the Filipino actors of immense talent who are compelled to carve out a path for themselves and force their way up the rigid ladder of success in local film and television; WHEREAS, her character Abigail who was a toilet manager working in a luxury cruise ship and surrounded by other Filipino workers below deck is representative of the diaspora of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who work thankless jobs away from their home, their family, and everything safe and familiar to them; WHEREAS, in 2021. OFWs were estimated to be at 1.83 million, with female OFWs making up the lion's share of this population at 1.10 million4; WHEREAS, the majority of our female OFWs are engaged in elementary occupations and work as cleaners, helpers, and domestic workers, just like Abigail;

WHEREAS, the feminization of the country's labor migration policy disproportionately puts Filipinas in danger, which sometimes prove to be fatal; WHEREAS, OFWs like Abigail and her Filipino colleagues on the luxury yacht are essential to the Philippine economy, to the country, and the communities they serve, 1
