“I did make it a big part of my campaign," Tierney said. “But people are going to care more that I am listening to them, and that I am going to fix their roads and sidewalks and make sure their neighborhoods get the money and things that they need.”

far-right Governor, Sarah Sanders crafted an entire championing Arkansas’ toward becoming the “conservative state,” as she has said on numerous occasions.

someone should be me’ it was a natural progression.”

Tierney said throughout his campaign, young and old queer people told him how much it meant to them.

“I once sat down with this group of people, and somebody around my age, young lesbian, and she held my hand and she wept about how much it meant to her to know that this was possible, that somebody who was young and queer was potentially going to be in a seat, in a place where people could look up to and that they could they would know that their voice is being heard.”

Tierney eventually lost the election in November to Joan Adcock, one of the longest running board members, but has continued to be involved with the city’s local government.

“If we're going to start with our neighbors, then let's first build relationships, because we're not going to do anything if we aren't willing to cross the street and take care of the person next to us Like, you know me and I know you, and we're gonna take care of each other.”

PET OBITUARIES

1998-2013

Our first family dog was Ms. Buffy Jewels. The runt of her litter, she was more of a snuggler and less of a vampire slayer. She was an after-school gift my sister and I were not expecting. A black and white Shih Tzu just old enough to move in with us. Our dad would serenade our mom and Buffy with Lloyd Price’s - Lawdy Miss Clawdy nearly every night while relaxing on the recliner Treasuring one toy her whole life, a bone with a golf ball design on each end. A collector of used paper towels. Her lair was underneath our parents' four-poster bed. Eating Science DietTM every day with no complaints, she was sturdy with no medical issues and lived a long life, maybe too long. When I was in my early twenties, an executive decision was made to put Buffy down before a family cruise to which Buffy beat the system and died at home in protest Patches Kaneshiro 1990 - 2005

Patches was found in Hawaii, a stray cat who grew up in a family of some alleged 25 kittens A luxurious calico cat, her

tricolored fur inspired the name Patches. When a kind old man fed her, she learned to growl. At first, she didn’t leave her refrigerator box for a whole week. Patches was an independent cat who didn’t need no cuddling. But would occasionally accept pets or attack a sock-encased hand. Climbing guava trees, and engaging in neighborly cat fights resulting in a clipped ear, she could jump on top of any furniture. After cremation, her owner decided to drink a cup of water with a pinch of her ashes. Upon the next morning, he grew a white hair

READ SOMETHING QUEER

When I was a kid, I read like it was the only thing keeping my blood coursing through my body After high school, half a decade passed without finishing a novella, rereading an old favorite, or listening to an audiobook A few years ago it hit me all at once: the books I was reading just weren’t gay enough. Now I read more than ever, and whenever possible I am reading something queer. Whether reading is your favorite pastime or a long forgotten hobby, I want to challenge you to read three queer books with me this summer. Check out your local library, and if you need inspiration, here are some suggestions:

Sci-Fi: Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki

A ruthless violin teacher makes a deal with the devil in exchange for the souls of seven talented young violinists, but finds her heart softened by her newest

THE VOID YELLS BACK

At times, we may experience moments of deep emotion that require yelling. But where to yell? Yell here: into The Void. And the void yells back advice!

Question: Dear Void, I DON’T HAVE A JOB AND DON’T KNOW WHAT JOB TO GET!! HOW DO I FIND MY PATH AND DETERMINE MY FUTURE CAREER??

Answer: DEAR FUTURE CAREER, EXCUSE MY TONE BY I’M JUST YELLING TO MATCH YOURS. I DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH CAREER ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU, AS I’VE NEVER SEEN YOUR RESUME. I

student, a runaway trans girl The teacher might also be falling for the woman who runs the local donut shop, who just so happens to be the captain of a spaceship. An alien spaceship. Gay aliens.

Historical Fiction: The Lilac People by Milo Todd

A heart wrenching, informative, and devastatingly topical book about the struggles trans folk faced in Germany during World War II. This book is important, and taught me much about our own history, but it made my stomach turn. Read with caution, and note the content warnings.

Romance: The Pairing by Casey McQuiston

Two exes end up on the same food and wine tour of Europe They make a friendly wager— who will sleep with their hot tour guide first? In fact, which of them can have more hookups this trip? Chaos ensues. Very spicy, very hot, very queer.

DO KNOW THAT CONSUMING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT HAS HELPED ME KEEP STEADY EMPLOYMENT AS THE VOID HAVE YOU TRIED THAT? UNLATCH YOUR JAW AND SEE WHAT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITES POP UP.

Question: Dear Void, how do I open a can without a can opener?

Answer: Dear Can opener-less person, a knife is a handy tool that, with a friend, can also be used to safely open a can, if you open it a little bit at a time. If you don’t have any friends, that sounds more like a personal problem.

Sagittarius: Slow your roll on spending, but speed up your progress at work. Looks like you work in non-profit Work is great, money is NOT.

COLLECTIVE IMAGINATION

I am imagining a better world. While alone each of us have relatively little power in the face of fascism, together we have enough.

In Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Davis, she writes “the ancestors of many of today’s most ardent liberals could not have imagined life without slavery, life without lynching, or life without segregation”. I am tasking my readers to imagine something better than our current systems of oppression, exploitation, and inequity, even if it seems impossible.

Alone, I could not truly imagine one creature that lives at the bottom of our oceans. But together, taking inspiration from nature (consider The Serviceberry by Robin Wall-Kimmerer as an example), we could do much more. The collective imagination is wide and deep. We that better systems can, do, and exist.

My friends and I are imagining a without money. The pros: no work isn’t for the greater good, prison

Capricorn: Summer is a great season “me” time! Isolate deeply and worry people who love you!

Aquarius: Don’t be afraid of sprucing your home with a new plant. Seriously Don’t be afraid.

Pisces: Summer holds so much pr joy, and even, romance! But, all things eventually leave you. Sorry

abolishment, no prerequisites for necessities, and zero advertisements. The cons: it might damage the punk music scene, and we might not have access to Jellycats.

Of course, we are not the first to speak of a world with no money and are engaging in a great tradition of imagination and philosophy. We are reminding each other that money is simply a debt ledger, and if we devalue it, the wealthy have no power over us. Money decides who among us gets necessities based on arbitrary “worth” determined by the hoarders. We must strive for a world where everyone gets what they need. Even if we fall short, we will be more successful than the current system.

The big idea though is as such: no matter what I imagine on this page and in isolation, the collective imagination, what we imagine together, will be so
