Because nothing says summer like expensive tickets, expensive merch and a few ridiculously expensive concert beers, here's a round-up of where your favorite bands and pop stars are playing over the next few months.
This is the summer of indie rock. Sure, Taylor Swift has an album coming. But so do The Black Keys, Of Monsters and Men, Whitney and a bunch of the bands that already fill your playlists (and a few new ones that should).

GOOD READS You probably already have a stack of books waiting to be read on your bookshelf and few more downloaded on your tablet. But it just isn't summer without a fresh beach read, so here are a few more titles to add to the pile. And we promise, no one will judge you if they don't get finished until next summer.
MOSTLY DEAD THINGS
NORMAL PEOPLE
CITY OF GIRLS
By Sally Rooney Everyone is reading it, so it must be good, right? Actually, this novel is one case where a "bandwagon book" is worth the hype. In it, Sally Rooney explores an on-again/offagain romance, but in way more in-depth and relatable way than we typically get in books or movies.
MORE THAN ENOUGH: CLAIMING SPACE FOR WHO YOU ARE (NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY) By Elaine Welteroth Remember when the internet was shocked by the "wokeness" of Teen Vogue a few years ago? You can thank Elaine Welteroth for pretty much all of that. She was not only the youngest editor-in-chief at Teen Vogue, but she was also only the second African-American to hold that title in the Conde Nast company. Since leaving the magazine in 2018, she has been making a name for herself in other mediums, like TV. In her part-memoir, part-manifesto, Welteroth unpacks a lot—including lessons on race, gender and how to be a change maker.
By Kristen Arnett This debut novel has found its way onto just about every must read list, and we totally get why. It's set in a swampy Florida town and follows the journey of a daughter who's forced to run her family's taxidermy shop after her father commits suicide.
By Elizabeth Gilbert The author of "Eat, Pray, Love" is back with another novel about a woman finding her voice, this time set in the theater scene of 1940s New York.
SEARCHING FOR SYLVIE LEE: A NOVEL
By Jean Kwok This anticipated new novel follows two sisters and their mother—a Chinese immigrant family. When the older sister, Sylvie, vanishes, the family must face some long-held secrets in order to get to uncover clues and find her. And, if it matters, it's a Today Show Book Club pick.
THIS IS NOT A T-SHIRT: A BRAND, A CULTURE, A COMMUNITY—A LIFE IN STREETWEAR
By Bobby Hundreds Release Date: June 25 Before there was Instagram or Reddit, streetwear designer Bobby Hundreds was creating a brand that expanded beyond
clothing to include a print magazine, eyewear and footwear. In his book, Hundreds shares stories from his formative years while giving a history lesson on the streetwear culture.
VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL (2019 EDITION)
By Svetlana Alexievich and translated by Keith Gessen Release Date: July 1 "Voices from Chernobyl" provided much of the source material for the hit HBO miniseries that explores the Ukrainian nuclear power plant tragedy, and a new paperback version will soon be in bookstores. Journalist Svetlana Alexievich interviewed hundreds of people for the book, which was originally released in 1997, and she even won a Nobel Prize in Literature for her work.
THE NICKEL BOYS: A NOVEL
By Colson Whitehead Release Date: July 16 In his follow-up novel to the Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Underground Railroad," Colson Whitehead takes another time period from U.S. history to task—the Civil Rights era. The story follows two boys sent to a reform school in Tallahassee with unpleasant conditions, to say the least. The scary part is that the novel is based on a real story of a reform school in Florida that operated for 111 years.
POOLSIDE PODCASTS Whether you're road tripping to a fun destination or just chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, you'll probably want some entertainment coming through your speakers. But we vote you throw a few of these new podcasts on in between your summer mixes. Because it's always cool to learn something new, right?
THE C-WORD
ADULTING
Need some advice? A new podcast from Bay Area Public Radio KQED might have some. The show is "made by and for people of color" with host Tonya Mosley guiding you through topics such as family issues, motherhood and "well-meaning white people."
Michelle Buteau (you loved her in "Always Be My Maybe") and Jordan Carlos try to answer some of life's harder questions (and sometimes the more silly ones, too) on this WYNC show. Guest stars include Phoebe Robinson, Jim Gaffigan and Wyatt Cenac to name a few.
ANTHEM: HOMUNCULUS
This serialized podcast musical follows the story of a broke artist as he launches an app to crowdfund his brain tumor treatment. The podcast was written by and stars John Cameron Mitchell, alongside Glenn Close, Marion Cotillard and Patti LuPone. You can find it on the Luminary podcast network. June 20, 2019
Another one from the Luminary podcast network, hosts Lena Dunham and Alissa Bennett go deep into the stories of women cast aside from society and called "crazy." (You probably thought they were referencing the "other" c-word, huh?)
TRUTH BE TOLD
IT'S A MESS
"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 9 runner-up Miss Peppermint is launching an advice podcast with American rapper Cazwell. We could always use more advice, and it's probably easier to hear it from a drag queen. Be on the lookout for this show when it debuts on June 27.
EAR HUSTLE
The Radiotopia podcast was originally a collaboration between two San Quentin State Prison inmates, Earlonne Woods and Antwan Williams, who shared a glimpse of their lives in prison with listeners. Since Woods' sentence was commuted last November, the new season of the podcast will now document his life as a free man as well as feature interviews of other inmates who have left prison. 13
FLICK PICKS JUNE 21
TOY STORY 4
Just when you think the story is over, they come out with another one. This time, Buzz, Woody and friends go on a new adventure to rescue a new toy name Forky.
CHILD'S PLAY
Remember Chucky, the serial killer-possessed doll who haunted your childhood dreams? Yeah, he's back and creepier than ever in this remake starring Aubrey Plaza.
JUNE 28
YESTERDAY
When everyone forgets The Beatles except you, what do you do? You steal their songs as your own obviously.
JULY 2
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME With stars like Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jake Gyllenhaal, plus the general magic of Spider-Man, this film doesn't need much else to sell tickets.
JULY 12 STUBER
Throw an awkward Uber driver with a fivestar rating and a cop on the trail of a killer together and what do you get? A wild ride, complete with guns and explosions.
CRAWL
As if hurricanes weren't scary enough, this movie throws a killer alligator into the mix. And, of course, it's set in Florida.
21 BRIDGES
Chadwick Boseman is back and playing a totally different kind of superhero—a cop. He has to lock down NYC in an attempt to catch a pair of murderers.
THE FAREWELL
'Tis the season for sequels, superheroes and seriously sweet music-centric dramadies. Here's the best of what's coming to the big screen this summer.
TV GUIDE If your streaming habits are anything like ours, you've already binged "Dead to Me." Twice. But don't worry—there's more good TV where that came from (bless you, Netflix). Plus some of the classic cable networks, like Fox and MTV, are getting in the game this summer and dishing up '90s and '00s nostalgia by revisiting forever favorites "Beverly Hills 90210" and "The Hills." 414 1
Awkwafina is finally getting a serious role, and we are seriously excited for it. This Sundance hit follows her character as she struggles to understand why her family in China chooses not to tell their grandmother she is dying.
JULY 19
THE LION KING
The early reviews are looking pretty good
AIRING NOW / CURRENTLY STREAMING WHEN THEY SEE US
Netflix Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Ava DuVernay co-wrote and directed this four-episode limited series which explores the story behind the Central Park 5. It's a must-see for anyone who wants a better understanding of the controversial case.
for Jon Favreau's live-action remake, thank goodness. Because we'd cry if Beyoncé was part of something that wasn't flawless.
BRIAN BANKS
DAVID CROSBY: REMEMBER MY NAME
A rock-nostalgia documentary about David Crosby and his challenging journey.
What happens when a broken system fails an innocent man? This movie tells that story through the true life of Brian Banks, who, with the help of the California Innocence Project, was finally freed of wrongful rape charges and able to live his dream as a professional football player.
JULY 26
THE KITCHEN
Once upon a time in a Quentin Tarantino movie, he cast Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Al Pacino, and the Oscar buzz began before the first frame was even shot...
AUG. 14
ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD
JULY 31
JAY MYSELF
A documentary featuring the renowned artist and photographer Jay Maisel, showing his journey through the eyes of his protégé Stephen Wilkes.
AUG. 2
FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW
Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw find themselves going from enemies to teammates in this spinoff from "The Fast & Furious" franchise. Although most of the cast members of original movies are not going to be there, we still get the cool cars, fight scenes and the Rock doing what he does best—going after bad guys.
THE NEW MUTANTS
Yes, this is an X-Men-adjacent film. But just be warned, it's much darker and scarier than your typical Marvel fare.
AUG. 9
MIDSOMMAR
Who's ready for another super scary movie from "Hereditary" director Ari Aster? This one is about a young woman who goes on vacation to a Swedish village that's a little too perfect.
DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD
Dora is officially a teenager and is facing the most terrifying adventure ever—high school. She also has to juggle her explorer stuff, like uncovering the mystery behind a lost city of gold.
GROWN-ISH
Freeform Yara Shahidi and her dorm buddies are back for the second half of Season 2—finally. These episodes are all about her character navigating college, and life in general, without her family footing the bill.
YOUNGER
TV Land The guiltiest of all guilty pleasures has re-
Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss star in this film about a trio of mob wives who take up the family business when their husbands are arrested.
BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
It's 1987 and a Pakistani teenager does exactly what American teenagers are doing— becomes obsessed with Bruce Springsteen. But his friends and family just don't get it.
AUG. 16
GOOD BOYS
We almost feel bad about how funny this movie looks. Almost. It's about three preteen boys who get into all kinds of adult adventures—like drugs, porn and running from the cops. We're just hoping all the best scenes aren't in the trailer.
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2
The piggies and birds are back as frenemies to face a new foe threatening to conquer their islands. They may be working together, but it wouldn't be "Angry Birds" without a little friendly competition.
WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE
Remember when this book was a mustread a few years ago? Apparently, Richard Linklater was a fan, because he's directing this adaptation with Cate Blanchett as the vanishing mom Bernadette.
AUG. 23 MY SPY
Dave Bautisa plays JJ—a spy who, long story short, gets blackmailed by a 9-yearold girl.
turned, and this time around we finally get to see Liza act her real age. We also get to see Hilary Duff step into the role of boss.
EUPHORIA
HBO Forget rock-n-roll. Sex, drugs and social media are the trifecta for the millennial generation, and this show goes all in on all three. It's got some star power too—Zendaya plays the lead and Drake is one the producers. inweekly.net
TRINKETS
Netflix This binge-worthy show is about a trio of teen shoplifters who meet in a support group and end up getting into way more trouble than just petty theft.
THE HANDMAID'S TALE
Hulu Elizabeth Moss and her baby are back for Season 3 of this award-winning dystopian series, which still has us asking why she stayed in Gilead?
BLACK MIRROR
Netflix Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that Miley Cyrus stars in an episode this season. So do Anthony Mackie and Topher Grace.
BIG LITTLE LIES
HBO This might just be the most anticipated show of the summer and, of course, HBO is making sure it delivers by adding Meryl-freaking-Streep to the already stellar cast.
LOS ESPOOKYS
HBO When Lorne Michaels and Fred Armisen team up to produce a Spanish language comedy for HBO, you know it's going to be funny. And probably a little weird. Only one episode of "Los Espookys" has aired so far, but it's definitely checking both those boxes.
GOOD TROUBLE
Freeform The residents of The Coterie are really dealing with heavy some stuff in Season 2, like coming out and depression. But they're also hooking up and falling in love, so it'll be fun too, especially if Noah Centineo shows up again.

It's not been confirmed yet, but multiple places are reporting his current, non-Kardashian, girlfriend Sofia Richie will be a series regular.
BEVERLY HILLS 90210
Premiering Aug. 7 on Fox Brenda, Brandon, Kelly and the rest of the West Beverly crew are all reuniting, we assume at The Peach Pit. It feels weird to imagine "90210" without Dylan McKay—RIP Luke Perry—but we'll probably still watch anyway. {in}
