HELMETS OF HEART IS AN EMPOWERING INITIATIVE THAT HAS EVOLVED FROM THE VISIONARY EFFORTS OF THE REBUILD UKRAINE HACKATHON. In late 2023, the Rebuild Ukraine Hackathon team — Anastasiia Bielohryvtseva, Kateryna Kost, Inna Onyshchenko, and Zenon Radewych—conceived a powerful idea: bringing damaged military helmets from Ukrainian soldiers to Canada, where Ukrainian-Canadian artists would transform them into poignant artworks to be auctioned in support of Ukraine’s military. The vision honored the courage, resilience, and spirit of Ukrainian soldiers. However, due to export restrictions on military gear, the team adapted by engaging artists directly in Ukraine.
