Roundtable. Plenary room
Moderator. Maria Ramos

Electrification is becoming the backbone of the energy transition, but the next frontier lies in heavy industry and transport. For hard-to-electrify applications, clean electricity remains critical to the production of alternative fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. Utilities now face the challenge of supplying vast new volumes of clean power.
This roundtable will explore: Where has the most progress been made, and which sectors still lag behind? What demand signals are emerging for clean industrial products, and are customers willing to pay a premium? What infrastructure and investment are needed to scale clean power for industry? And is Europe creating the regulatory framework to give investors the confidence to back electrification at scale?

Director General of the Operations Directorate, EIB

As electricity demand surges driven by industry, transport, and data, Europe’s power systems face growing pressure. This panel explores how to build the resilient, flexible, and secure grid and storage infrastructure needed to meet net-zero targets and ensure energy sovereignty. What technologies, which smart policies and investment tools are required to future-proof the backbone of our clean energy economy?

22 October, 15.30 – 16.15
Parallel Session. Breakout Room 1
Moderator. Peter Schumacher

Europe’s battery competitiveness starts upstream - with the sourcing, refining, and processing of the materials that make the electrification transition possible. From raw and recycled resources to advanced components, these stages of the value chain are critical to Europe’s energy independence and industrial strength. Yet securing the right financing remains one of the greatest challenges to scaling this foundation.
This session explores how targeted investment and collaboration can unlock growth, strengthen resilience, and secure Europe’s position in the global battery race. Participants will gain insights into the vital role of upstream and midstream investments, the hurdles facing innovative industrialisation projects, and the financial tools designed to de-risk and accelerate sustainable material production across Europe.

Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) is rapidly moving from theory to deployment, to support the decarbonisation of industrial, transport and energy sectors. When integrated into broader value chains, captured CO₂ can become a critical resource serving as a feedstock for e-fuels, sustainable materials and permanent storage solutions.
Yet despite initial supportive policy signals and growing technological readiness, large-scale investment remains constrained. This panel will examine how carbon can be monetised across sectors and what financing and policy tools are needed to unlock deployment to decarbonise Europe.
23 October, 11.30 – 12.30
