SEBASTIAN HUTCH
CEO - Bloodstock Sales
Welcome to the 2026 Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands.
It’s fantastic to be back in Melbourne – one of the world’s great cities – at a time of year when the streets are buzzing with anticipation of the autumn racing carnival and the looming AFL season, not to mention the Ed Sheeran concerts in town this same weekend as Premier!
To be able to hold Victoria’s primary yearling sale in the middle of what is one of the most enjoyable and exciting periods in this city annually is an honour and it’s a week of the year we at Inglis all very much look forward to.
Premier Week is always a fun one and this year we hope to make it even more of a spectacle for you, our clients and friends.
While the three-day Premier Sale is of course the feature, we also have a series of events in and around the auction that this What’s On booklet details.
From games nights to welcome drinks, race meetings and other functions, all our efforts are about making this period as enjoyable and memorable for everybody as possible.
Day 1 (Sunday March 1) of Premier has developed into one of the most enjoyable and busiest days on the Australian sales calendar, with thousands of people flocking to Oaklands for ‘Sunday Fun Day’ to enjoy the theatre, atmosphere and general entertainment involved in a yearling sale.
The Premier Sale has been a highlight of the Southern Hemisphere yearling sales season for decades and its strength in more recent years has been nothing short of extraordinary, especially its graduates’ success.
To see two millionaires crowned in the Oaklands ring last year was not only fabulous theatre but also a huge boon for the Victorian breeding industry, with the yearlings offered by Gilgai and Rosemont.
This year’s catalogue again appears to be filled with quality entries, a total of 814 lots finalised for the sale which will again see two days of Book 1 and one day of Book 2 action.
Premier continues to provide consistent racetrack success, year after year.
Two of last season’s G1-winning 2YO colts in Vinrock and Nepotism are both graduates of the sale, while it has also provided the past three winners of the $20m G1 The Everest that have been offered at public auction in Bella Nipotina, Think About It and Nature Strip.
Since 2018 there have been 34 G1-winning graduates come through Premier, including 16 that could have been bought for $100,000 or less like Benedetta, Griff, Mariamia, Gytrash, Santa Ana Lane etc.
We look forward to seeing many of you at Oaklands again on March 1-3 for this year’s Premier Yearling Sale.
Regards
Sebastian
