Inside, you’ll find the work of some of Central Virginia’s most dedicated wedding professionals. Their passion and talent are what truly bring these pages to life. When you connect with a vendor you discover here, we hope you’ll mention Richmond Weddings® - those connections truly matter and help support the local wedding community we care so much about.

@RVAWEDDINGS

In a world that moves quickly and lives mostly on screens, there’s still something special about slowing down with a printed magazine. With that in mind, we’ve designed this issue to be both beautiful and practical, filled with real weddings, helpful advice, and trusted resources to keep you feeling confident every step of the way.

And when you’re ready for even more inspiration, you can find us daily on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok (@RVAWeddings), or experience it all in person at one of our upcoming shows on July 12, 2026 or January 10, 2027. There’s nothing quite like meeting vendors face-to-face and seeing the energy of Richmond’s wedding community come together in one place.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of such an important season in your life. It truly means the world to us to walk alongside you as you plan, celebrate, and create something unforgettable.

2026 Wedding Predictions and Beyond Where Design, Experience, and Leadership Converge

The days are gone where you only care about how your wedding day looks. In 2026 and beyond, couples are prioritizing how the celebration feels, how it flows, and how guests experience it from start to finish. From the wedding professional perspective, these big events are seen as living environments, thoughtfully led experiences, and moments that linger long after the last song plays.

As you plan the celebration, consider these five wedding trends that are gaining traction and reflect a wider movement toward intentional design, meaningful connection, and immersive storytelling.

1. Wedding Day Childcare as a Designed Experience

Couples are redefining hospitality by considering every guest, including children. Wedding day childcare has become a fully integrated part of the whole experience. In 2026, we believe personalized childcare will be integrated into event settings.

Rather than distracting from the celebration, these spaces are designed to enhance it. Supervised activities, soft seating, and ageappropriate entertainment help youngsters feel engaged while giving parents the opportunity to remain present. We have seen this trend quietly growing since the early 2020s, and in 2026 it is becoming a thoughtful standard rather than an add-on.

2. Edible Design and Full Fruit Tablescapes

Food is no longer confined to the plate. It is entering the design story completely and leaving the background. In 2026, tablescapes are becoming canvases, with fruit, produce, and edible elements directly

included into flower arrangements and décor.

With deep burgundy and chartreuse tones emerging as prominent hues, we anticipate full fruit arrangements woven into centerpieces and installations.

Think blooms layered with stone fruit, pears, grapes, and figs. The distinction between design and dining is blurred by the visually arresting, rich, and textural impact. It is unquestionably modern, sensory, and abundant.

3. Sculptural Elements That Shape the Room

Flat décor is giving way to dimension. Sculptures, columns, and pillars are appearing throughout ceremony and reception spaces, acting as architectural anchors rather than background accents.

These elements frame moments, guide movement, and give the room a sense of permanence and intention. Whether modern and minimal or romantic and organic, sculptural features create visual rhythm and elevate the environment. In 2026, we can assure you design is not just styled, it is built.

4. Table Lighting That Unites Guests

Lighting has always set the mood, but in 2026 it is also shaping connection. Candles will always have a place, but table lighting is expanding into something more immersive. Couples are choosing continuous illumination along the length of their tables with tiny, shaded lamps.

It results in what we like to refer to as "light paths," which visually connect guests and guide their eyes throughout the room. The impact

Kaytlyn Rei Photography

is distinctly contemporary, editorial, and intimate. It marks the beginning of a new age in reception design and shapes atmosphere in a subtle yet powerful way.

5. Unexpected Entertainment Enters the Reception

Beyond bands and DJs, entertainment is evolving to encompass unconventional, intensely personal encounters. The introduction of a reception comedian is one trend that we are keeping a careful eye on.

Imagine a comedy set that is tailored to your guest list, with references to your favorite aunt, your college friends, and experiences you all share. It is audacious, unforgettable, and produces a moment of joy shared by all. When done properly, it unites two worlds in a way that feels fresh and entirely personal.

Looking Ahead

It is true that nothing is completely original, but how you interpret and apply concepts is what makes a wedding feel unique. These trends reflect a broader movement toward weddings that are thoughtfully planned, led with intention, and fully enjoyed by everyone involved.

If you haven't seen these elements yet, you will eventually. And if they haven't yet taken over your social media feeds, rest assured that they will. We are already seeing these ideas incorporated into weddings across Richmond, Northern Virginia, and the DMV, and you could even see them brought to life at an event near you.

The Wedding Day Superhero You Didn’t Know You Needed

Where elegance meets warmth

You’ve been dreaming of this wedding for as long as you can remember, and finally found the person to spend the rest of your life with. The venue is secured, catering contract signed, and DJ choices have been narrowed down. Momentum is building. The big items are checked off, confidence is high, and it feels completely manageable with the help of a partner – and maybe a few friends and family members. The decision is made: no wedding planner or coordinator needed.

Fast forward to a week before the wedding. The attire is ready, pampering appointment is on the calendar, and the excitement outweighs the stress. And then disaster strikes. A text message arrives: the second cousin once removed, who promised to bake the wedding cake, is sick and can’t make it. Panic sets in. Heart races like you’ve just done a triathlon. Thoughts drift back to eight months earlier – was skipping a planner or coordinator a mistake?

And then… it turns out this was only a nightmare. A coordinator was hired! Somewhere behind the scenes the wedding professional is already solving that cake problem while you’re relaxing and enjoying a moment of calm.

That’s the difference a wedding planner or coordinator makes. Here’s what that investment protects couples from:

They solve disasters — before anyone notices. When something goes wrong (because something always does), the couple isn’t the one fixing it. Planners anticipate issues, troubleshoot

Alexis Jones Photography Harmonious Events
The Euresti Co

ahead of time, and swoop in like superheroes when the unexpected happens. Your only job? Enjoy that engagement glow and stay calm.

They know the right people.

Experienced planners maintain a network of trusted vendors. Need a last-minute cake? A florist backup? A photographer replacement? The planner already has someone on speed dial ready to save the day.

They keep the focus on what matters.

A wedding day is about marrying the love of a lifetime - not corralling aunts and uncles or worrying about the timing of the first dance. Coordinators manage the timeline, cue the music, and shepherd guests so the couple can experience the “I’m having the time of my life” moments.

They help budgets stretch further.

Planners recognize hidden pitfalls and know where couples tend to overspend. Funds are allocated realistically and suggest alternatives that look just as good without draining the wallet. Think of them as a money-smart guru who also carries a walkie-talkie and maybe even a fanny pack.

They make venues flow and look amazing.

Decor doesn’t simply “go somewhere.” Layout affects photography, dancing, and traffic flow. Planners coordinate tables, flowers, signage, and everything in between to create a cohesive, effortless feel, even in a blank-slate space.

So, is it worth the investment?

A typical coordinator for month-of or day-of services usually starts working with couples 4–12 weeks before the wedding, depending on how much help is needed. Month-of coordination is ideal for couples who have already planned most of the details but want guidance tying up loose ends, creating a timeline, confirming vendors, and managing the rehearsal. Day-of coordination focuses on making sure the wedding day itself runs smoothly, from timeline management to vendor coordination.

Some couples choose partial planning, which provides a few months of planning support, vendor guidance, and timeline creation for those who want help but don’t need full-service planning. Full planning covers everything from start to finish including budgeting, vendor selection, décor, and full-day execution, giving couples a completely stress-free experience.

Professional coordinator services typically begin around $1,500+, depending on guest count, venue, and overall complexity. This reflects weeks (or months) of preparation and hands-on management required to design a seamless wedding day.

Think of a planner as the wedding-day superhero: solving problems before you even know they exist, guiding vendors, and quietly saving the day. With that level of support, you can finally stop worrying about timelines, misplaced bouquets, the missing cake, and start enjoying the best “I do” of your life.

JUST ENGAGED? HERE’S WHAT TO DO FIRST

Getting engaged is one of the most exciting moments in your relationship. However, many couples feel immediate pressure to jump straight into wedding planning. Before you open a spreadsheet or start scrolling Pinterest, there are a few important things to do first. These steps will help you protect the joy of this season and create a more intentional experience.

Take Time to Celebrate Your Engagement

First and foremost, pause and celebrate. Your engagement is a season worth savoring. You do not need to start planning right away. Instead, focus on enjoying this moment with your partner. Plan meaningful date nights, celebrate with close friends and family, and allow yourselves to fully soak it in. This may look like cozy dinners, weekend getaways, or quiet nights at home.

Before the stress begins, give yourselves permission to enjoy being engaged.

Keep the Intention Front and Center

As planning begins, it is easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Intention should guide every step of the process.

Wedding planning involves many decisions, opinions, and moving parts. Naturally, this can feel overwhelming. However, reminding yourselves why you are doing this makes all the difference. At the end of the day, the wedding celebrates your partnership. Continue to check in with one another, and when stress creeps in, return to the reason you said yes.

Talk About What “Getting Married” Looks Like to You

Before booking venues or choosing a date, talk openly about your vision. Every couple defines “getting married” differently.

For some, it looks like an intimate elopement. For others, it means a large celebration with friends and family. It could also be a courthouse ceremony followed by dinner. Most importantly, there is no right or wrong choice. Talking through these expectations early helps prevent conflict later and ensures that your wedding reflects your relationship, not outside pressure.

Ease Into Planning with a Budget and Timeline Conversation

Once you feel ready, start with the practical foundation: your budget. This step can feel uncomfortable, but it’s essential.

Talk honestly about how much you are willing and able to spend. Additionally, discuss what aspects matter most to you. This clarity helps guide every future decision. When you set realistic expectations early, you avoid unnecessary stress down the road.

Give Yourselves Permission to Do It Your Way

Trends, expectations, and opinions will come, but your wedding should reflect you. By starting with intention, communication, and

celebration, you create a planning experience that feels grounded instead of stressful.

Your engagement is not a checklist item. It’s a season worth honoring, and when you protect that joy from the start, everything that follows feels more meaningful.

The Secret to Stunning Wedding Photos? YOUR VENDOR TEAM

You spend months creating that perfect inspiration board – luminous ceremony, glowing reception, and effortlessly romantic, magazine-worthy portraits. You've found the photographer who gets your vision, but here's a secret: photography doesn't happen in a vacuum. The quality of your final wedding gallery is actually shaped by every single vendor involved. Understanding this collaboration is essential if you want your final photos to match the dreams you've been saving.

The Euresti Co

Of course, an experienced photographer brings the technical genius, creative direction, and the ability to adapt. They're pros at handling harsh sunlight, dim ballrooms, and timelines that move at warp speed. They can find your best angles and guide you into a natural pose in a split second. But even the most seasoned pro can't magically undo major environmental challenges. Lighting, design, and coordination directly impact what is even possible for them to capture.

1. Lighting Designers & Planners: The Mood Setter

Lighting is, hands down, one of the most critical factors. A planner or lighting designer who makes ambiance a priority can completely transform a space, both visually and photographically. Think soft overhead lights, balanced candlelight, and intentional spotlights — that's what creates depth and clarity in an image. On the flip side, harsh, colored uplights or a reception space that’s dark can distort skin tones and completely obscure details. A seasoned photographer can adapt in editing, but they cannot completely reverse challenging lighting conditions.

2. Florals & Decor: The Composition

Your flowers and decor aren't just pretty; they are crucial visual elements. High-quality arrangements with an intentional color palette simply photograph differently than sparse or mismatched designs. Textures, layers, and cohesive tones add a richness to your images that elevates the entire composition. When your florist and designer are thoughtful collaborators, they give your photographer so much more visual artistry to work with.

3. Hair & Makeup: The Camera-Ready Finish

This is an essential component. Professional artists truly understand how makeup translates on camera and under different lighting conditions. Techniques that look subtle in person can disappear in a photograph if not applied correctly. Skilled artists balance coverage, contour, and tone to ensure you look polished, radiant, and exactly like yourself, both in real life and in your final gallery.

4. Coordination: The Timekeeper

This might be the most underrated factor. A planner who builds a realistic timeline ensures there is ample breathing room for portraits, detail shots, and travel time. Without that structure, the photography process gets rushed, and those beautiful, relaxed moments can be missed entirely. Strong coordination guarantees your photographer has the time and the right conditions to create their best work.

The bottom line is that great wedding photography is a team effort. Hiring talented vendors across the board does more than just enhance your event, it directly impacts how your day is documented. When every professional contributes their expertise, your photographer is free to focus entirely on artistry instead of constantly problem-solving.

For couples hoping their final photos truly match the beautiful inspiration boards they've saved for months, assembling the right vendor team is just as important as choosing the right photographer.

Why Having a Day-of Wedding Coordinator Will Save Your Sanity

A wedding takes months, sometimes years to plan. From the color palette to the seating chart, every detail has been thoughtfully curated. But when the big day finally arrives, the last thing you want to worry about is whether the florist delivered on time or if the DJ has the right playlist queued. That’s where a day-of coordinator comes in. Hiring one isn’t just a luxury, it’s often the secret ingredient that allows couples to truly enjoy their wedding without stress.

Someone to Manage the Chaos

Even the most perfectly planned wedding can hit a few bumps. Deliveries might run late, décor may need adjusting, or family members could have questions at every turn. A day-of coordinator is your built-in problem solver. They’re the ones who step in, smooth out the wrinkles, and keep everything moving according to schedule – without you ever knowing a hiccup occurred. Instead of being pulled in five different directions, you get to sip champagne, take photos, and soak in the joy of the moment.

The Gift of Delegation

Many couples underestimate just how much work happens behind the scenes on the wedding day. Setting up centerpieces, making sure the caterer knows where to unload, organizing the bridal party for the processional – those are not tasks you want your mom, maid of honor, or best man juggling. When you hire a coordinator, these responsibilities shift off your shoulders and onto a professional who thrives in that environment. Your loved ones can relax and celebrate, instead of running around with clipboards and timelines.

Keeping the Day on Track

Timing is everything at a wedding. The ceremony needs to begin when the guests are seated, the dinner service must flow smoothly, and you definitely don’t want to miss your sparkler send-off because no one told the DJ it was time. A coordinator acts as the conductor of your wedding day orchestra. They cue vendors, direct the wedding party, and make sure the timeline you worked so hard to create actually happens. Without someone managing those moving parts, it’s easy for the day to spiral into delays and confusion.

Peace of Mind for You and Your Partner

Perhaps the most valuable part of having a coordinator is intangible: peace of mind. Knowing that a professional is there to advocate for your vision allows you to be fully present. Instead of double-checking the cake delivery or worrying about whether the décor looks right, you can focus on the person you’re marrying. Those are the moments you’ll remember - not whether the napkins were folded correctly.

A Smoother Experience for Guests

Guests might not notice the hours you spent comparing linen swatches, but they will notice whether the day flows smoothly. When things run late or feel disorganized, it can take away from the celebratory mood. A coordinator ensures your friends and family have the best possible experience - welcomed, guided, and free from confusion.

The Bottom Line

A wedding day should feel joyful, not like a stressful event you’re managing behind the scenes. A day-of coordinator is more than a nice-to-have; they’re your safeguard against overwhelm. By trusting a professional to handle the logistics, you’re giving yourself permission to let go, celebrate fully, and enjoy the day you’ve been dreaming about.

In short, hiring a day-of coordinator doesn’t just save time – it saves your sanity.

Top Outdoor Locations in Richmond for Your Engagement Session

Richmond, Virginia is a goldmine of gorgeous locations for photo sessions. Whether you're looking for a lush garden, urban charm, or a cozy vibe, RVA offers something for everyone.

Belle Isle

If you love nature, stones, and water, this one is for you. The second you step onto the footbridge, the view is stunning. When the sunset peaks over the James River, the orange and yellow light cascades over the water and reflects off the rocks. On nice days, you’ll spot kayakers facing the whitewater rafting section of the James, and the flat river rocks lead out into the water. There is also a pond by the rock-climbing quarry that makes for gorgeous reflection photos.

Photographer tip: Before heading to the island, check Riverside Outfitter’s water level gauge. If the river height is over 6 feet, many of the wide flat rocks Belle Isle is known for will be covered, and most of the session will be in the woods or on the banks. If you’re planning on getting in the water, be sure to adhere to current water safety guidelines ad also check the jamesriver.org bacteria levels updated every Thursday.

Bryan Park

Bryan Park is an incredible spot for photoshoots. The park’s wide-open spaces are perfect for frolicking. There is a paved trail through the woods where maple and oak leaves build along the edges in autumn.

Photographer tip: Big Market, one of the largest and most fun farmer’s markets in the area is hosted here every Saturday morning. While most people stay near the market, it can make entering and parking in the park an unnecessary hassle if you’re there for a photo session. On the other hand, you could turn it into a farmers market date session!

Canal Walk

Does it get more Richmond than the Canal Walk? The pop of

Fingerprint
Fingerprint Photo Studio

colorful murals against the city buildings provides a quintessential artsy background that truly feels like RVA. There are sweeping bridges, overlook towers, adorable lights, and cobblestone streets in the sections of the Canal Walk that overlap with Shockoe Bottom. If you’re looking for funky pop art, historic architecture, or a classic city feel, the Canal Walk is your place to be. Make it a date by going on a Riverfront Canal Cruise in a gondola!

Photographer tip: There are so many sections of the Canal Walk, so make sure the part you and the photographer choose is what you’re looking for. There are also many fun detours into coffee shops, bars, and corner markets to discover.

Forest Hill Park

Forest Hill Park is a Southside treasure. Tucked into a neighborhood, there are many ways to enter the park, but only a few lead you down to the lake loop. Along the lake is a nice strolling trail with a gazebo, large sitting boulders, benches, a bridge, and stunning grassy areas. The lampposts at Forest Hill Park are also round, cute, and green, so they work perfectly in the woods.

Photographer tip: If you use a mobility aid, check out the 42nd Street entrance as it has a paved path down to the lakefront. Another note is due to the shade, and the lake being at the base of the woods, it gets darker quicker than up in the fields or around the historic house. There are a bunch of fun ways to play with light at Forest Hill.

Libbie Hill Park

If you’re after Richmond’s iconic cityscape, Libbie Hill Park delivers. Perched above the James River, it offers breathtaking views of the city skyline and the iconic Lucky Strike Stack. Ginkgo trees

line the main paths and create a golden canopy in the fall. Turn it into a date by grabbing some pie from Proper Pie Co. and enjoy snacking on it while watching the sunset! The park faces west, so you get a perfect view of the sun falling behind the city.

Photographer Tip: Take some time to explore the area as the park is just one highlight of the neighborhood. There are little free libraries, a coffee shop, and more around every corner.

Maymont

If you’re looking for a stunning garden, your work is done. Maymont is open daily, has no fee for photography, and offers 100 acres of gorgeous scenery. Find the Manor at the top of the hill and wind downward towards the Italian and Japanese gardens. Theres a plethora of backdrop options besides just breathtaking scenery. Turn it into a full date by packing a picnic and dining at the base of the waterfall in the Japanese Garden.

Photographer tip: Maymont gets crowded quickly on weekends. Opt for a weekday session for a more intimate experience. The gardens also have limited accessibility options for those with mobility aids.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

Sculpture Garden

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Sculpture Garden is a recently renovated gem. The updates have expanded the water fountains, made the garden more accessible, and refurbished the outdoor sculptures. Relax beneath the bows of the oak trees, walk along the reflection pool, and enjoy the various types of architecture, sculptures, and water fountains around the garden. Turn it into a date by grabbing coffee at the café or exploring the museum before or after your session!

Photographer tip: While admission inside is free to the VMFA, professional photography in the museum is not permitted without prior approval and a fee. This includes the terrace connected with Best Cafe that overlooks the reflecting pool.

What to Know Before You Go Wedding Gown Shopping

Wedding dress shopping is one of the most exciting moments of the wedding planning process. These tips are designed to help brides feel confident, prepared, and supported before stepping into a bridal boutique. However, the experience can also feel emotional and overwhelming without the right expectations. Knowing what to expect ahead of time helps you stay present and enjoy the process.

Kaytlyn Rei Photography

Bridal Sizing Is Different Than Everyday Clothing

One of the first surprises many people encounter is bridal sizing. Wedding gowns are sized differently than street clothes. In fact, most customers order a gown at least two sizes larger than what they typically wear. Because of this, it is important not to fixate on the number on the tag. That number does not reflect your worth or your body. Instead, focus on how the gown fits and feels. A dress that fits well and can be tailored properly will always look better than one chosen for the sake of a smaller size.

Bring a Small, Supportive Group

One of the most overlooked wedding dress shopping tips is being intentional about who you bring to your appointment. Although it may be tempting to bring a large group, fewer opinions often lead to a better experience. Too many voices can become overwhelming and may distract you from what you truly love. Instead, bring one to three people who know your style and will support your vision. Choose guests who make you feel confident and calm. When the room feels safe and focused, it becomes easier to trust your instincts.

Take your time, ask questions, and trust the professionals guiding you.

Research the Boutique and Designers Ahead of Time

Before your appointment, take time to explore the boutique’s website. Many bridal salons list the designers they carry, along with sample gowns. Looking through these collections helps you understand what styles speak to you. Additionally, this research helps you identify silhouettes or details you already know you do not want. As a result, your stylist can pull gowns that align with your taste more efficiently. This preparation also helps you feel more confident walking into your appointment.

Go In with an Open Mind

Even with research, flexibility is key. Many brides fall in love with a gown they never expected to choose. A silhouette, fabric, or detail you once ruled out may surprise you once it’s on your body. Trust your stylist’s expertise and allow yourself to try something new.

Focus on Fit, Comfort, and Movement

Your wedding gown is not just for photos. You will walk, sit, hug, dance, and celebrate in it. Because of this, comfort and movement matter just as much as design. Pay attention to how the gown feels when you move. Notice whether you can breathe easily and imagine wearing it for hours. A beautiful gown should also feel wearable.

Trust the Process and the Professionals

Finally, remember that wedding gown shopping is a process. You do not need to say yes at your first appointment. Take your time, ask questions, and trust the professionals guiding you. When you feel confident, supported, and at ease, the right gown often becomes clear. The goal is not perfection; the goal is finding a dress that feels like you. Ultimately, the best wedding dress shopping tips focus on confidence, comfort, and trusting the process.

The Beauty of a Multi-Day Wedding Weekend

You spend months, sometimes even years planning a wedding. But when the big day finally arrives, the whole experience can seem to pass in a heartbeat. What if you could slow time, stretch the magic, and experience the moments you worked so hard to create? A wedding weekend makes this dream possible!

dinner, and dancing, all in a single emotional whirlwind.

Logistically, it’s a game-changer!

• There’s time to drop off alcohol, décor, and personal items the day before.

A multi-day wedding weekend not only offers convenience, but also presence. Experience space to breathe, time to connect with your partner, your people, and even yourself before stepping into the spotlight.

The Deeper Value of Time

One of the most underrated luxuries in modern weddings is time.

A traditional wedding day often runs on a tightly packed timeline: hair and makeup

When more time is built in, it lets the experience unfold with intention and ease. This can come in the form of an extra afternoon or even a full three-day weekend. This allows to not only celebrate the marriage but also live it with the people you love.

The emotional benefits are significant:

• You and your partner get grounding moments together before saying "I do."

• Both families have space to bond instead of just bumping into each other in line at the bar.

• You feel the shift from planning to presence — and so do the guests.

• Hair and makeup can be onsite, not rushed or squeezed into a hotel bathroom.

• Amenities like a pool, sauna, or soaking tub that might otherwise go untouched are enjoyed.

If this sounds like your vibe, find a venue where the entire property can become a private retreat. Host a welcome dinner, get ready in grand suites, take golden-hour portraits with the photographer the day before, and still have time for a nap or a latenight swim. It’s about allowing space around each moment, so you don’t miss the meaning in the margins.

The Rhythm of the Weekend

The Day Before

Arrive to the venue with attire, gifts, and accessories in tow. Everything is dropped off in the exact space where you’ll be getting ready — no last-minute shuffling needed. If the venue allows alcohol, have it delivered, checking one more thing off the list.

Set out pajamas and thank-you gifts for the wedding party, then settle into the rhythm of the weekend with ease. There’s time for a sauna or a peaceful nap before the festivities begin. Meet the wedding party and officiant for a relaxed rehearsal, walking through the ceremony steps together — clear, calm, and unrushed.

Afterward, it’s off to the rehearsal dinner. Whether it’s an elegant meal in the formal dining room or a casual al fresco gathering on the terrace. Imagine sharing stories, hugs, laughter, and toasts with your closest circle. Maybe just the two of you sneak off for a golden-hour photo session with the photographer or enjoy a quiet glass of prosecco together as the sun sets over the river.

The night winds down with a late-night swim or cozy hangout with the wedding party. No curfews. No driving. Just presence.

Wedding Day

Wake up to the smell of breakfast in the formal dining room. Coffee served in beautiful teacups, fine China at your fingertips, and laughter floating around the table in a room full of people who love you. No one is commuting. No one is stressed.

Hair and makeup will already be set up. There’s a midday break for lunch in the foyer gallery. Get dressed slowly, breathe deeply, then — it’s time.

Ceremony. Cocktail hour. Dinner. Dancing. Late-night food. Afterparty.

And when the last song plays, you don’t start packing. You start soaking, literally, in a hot bath with your new spouse, surrounded by peace, not cleanup.

When more time is built in, it lets the experience unfold with intention and ease.

The Day After

You wake gently. There’s a light breakfast in the gazebo, time for a sauna or a swim, and space to relax into the final event: a farewell brunch by the pool. Change into resort wear and perhaps take one last soak. The wedding team has already packed your belongings.

All without ever leaving the property.

A Weekend That Feels Like You

A multi-day wedding weekend transforms an event from a one-day whirlwind into a fully immersive experience.

It gives you time to laugh, pause, rest, dance, and connect.

It gives the guests space to settle in and celebrate without feeling rushed.

And it gives your story the setting it deserves.

Because the best moments aren’t always the ones on the timeline.

Sometimes, they’re found in the in-between.

As co-owner of The Estate at River Run and a seasoned wedding planner of more than two decades at Kim Moody Design, Kim Moody has shaped countless love stories into extraordinary events. Her vision, expertise, and dedication have made her both a trusted industry leader and the creative force behind one of Virginia’s premier wedding destinations.

THE FUTURE OF WEDDING FOOD:

What Couples Are Craving Next

1. Experiential and Interactive Catering

Live food stations and chef-driven experiences are replacing static buffets. Couples are selecting options such as made-to-order pasta, sushi rolling bars, wood-fired pizza trucks, and flambé dessert stations that feel like a performance.

Interactive food moments invite guests to engage directly by building tacos, customizing bites, or watching chefs prepare dishes. This approach turns catering into entertainment and encourages conversation.

2. Menus That Tell a Story

Personalized menus are playing a bigger role in overall wedding design. From dishes inspired by favorite trips, to recipes passed down through generations, couples are making the meal feel personal and far more memorable than a standard plated dinner.

3. Visual and Social Media–Ready Presentation

Dessert walls and grazing tables continue to be crowd favorites. Styled charcuterie spreads and vertical dessert displays are designed to be visually striking as well as delicious. Plating is increasingly influenced by art and design, with dishes styled as carefully as décor. Chefs are plating with design in mind, and details like mini treats, bold color palettes, and sculptural arrangements are practically built for Instagram.

The Euresti Co

4. Elevated Late-Night Pairings

As the night goes on, late-night snacks give guests that second wind. Favorites include sliders, mini tacos, truffle macaroni and cheese shooters, and food trucks that arrive once dancing begins. We’re loving the blend of elevated and nostalgic - champagne with mini breakfast biscuits, espresso martinis paired with truffle fries or a gelato cart with Prosecco. It strikes that perfect balance between polished and playful, and it resonates especially well with younger guests.

5. Plant-Forward, Inclusive, and Sustainable Menus

Plant-based cuisine has moved into the mainstream. Vegan and vegetarian offerings are now expected features rather than special accommodations. Couples are also prioritizing dietary inclusivity, ensuring options for gluten-free, allergen-conscious, and other specific needs.

The Euresti Co

Sustainable sourcing and local ingredients are increasingly important. We’re seeing more couples prioritize sustainability – making smart, intentional menu choices that align with their values and resonate with guests.

6. Cultural and Street Food Influences

Handheld global dishes are being elevated through premium ingredients and refined presentation. Popular choices include bao buns, dumplings, tacos, samosas, and bánh mì. Raw seafood bar tasting stations are also emerging as visual focal points that add excitement and highlight culinary variety.

7. Elevated Beverage Experiences

Custom mocktails and craft beverage stations are gaining popularity, offering inclusive options alongside traditional bar service. Tableside cocktail prep adds a fun, interactive touch, and couples are putting as much intention into their drink selections as they are into the food.

Looking Ahead to 2027

Experiential dining will remain central, as guests increasingly value memorable moments over traditional courses. Personalization will continue to expand, from menus that tell a story to branded or monogrammed details. Well-being and sustainability will remain a priority, with plant-forward cuisine and eco-conscious practices becoming more standard.

We’ll also see more multi-sensory dining experiences, where sound, scent, and even temperature play a role in how guests experience the meal. Expect to see more cultural influence showing up on wedding menus. Not just for flair, but as a true reflection of the couple’s story.

Wedding catering in 2026 and beyond is evolving into a curated experience that reflects each couple’s identity while engaging guests visually, socially, and emotionally. Food is no longer simply served. It is designed, performed, and remembered.

The Part of the Wedding Day that Couples Underestimate Most

The music, the lighting, your carefully curated signature craft cocktails… You spend months planning how a wedding will look and feel once the party begins, but the energy of a wedding quietly reveals itself earlier… in a moment most couples don’t realize carries so much weight.

The ceremony has just ended. The music swells amid cheers, and the couple has walked back down the aisle, officially married, as guests rise from their seats.

At some weddings, guests drift or mechanically follow directions to the cocktail hour - it’s just the next stop on the wedding day journey. B-line-ing it to the bar, they check their phones, try not to bump into each other, and maybe end up having a polite conversation.

At others, when guests stand up, not having just watched a wedding, but having experienced it together, something entirely different happens. Guests turn to the strangers sitting beside them, and conversations start easily. They hug each other and linger in the moment, as if they had just shared something meaningful.

A ceremony brings together a group of individuals and transforms them into a room full of witnesses. That shared experience changes

Anna Gibbs Photography and Videography

the entire day. Being genuinely invested in the experience allows guests to feel connected to what they’ve just seen and heard – and they celebrate differently because of it.

Guests know the couple is getting married, but when they understand why this couple belongs together, their roles on the day begin to shift. It’s no longer that they are simply attending a nice event; they’ve been invited to something deeply personal. Your ceremony is an opportunity to create a shared reference point – a moment of laughter, a story that resonates, a promise that feels unmistakably sincere… Those moments stay present with guests as they move into the next part of the celebration.

Almost immediately, you hear the difference. Conversations at cocktail hour start with, “That story explained so much about them!” or “I loved when they said…” Experiencing the same emotional moment together makes it easy for strangers to connect. The room is open and engaged - not cold and in need of warming up. The celebratory mood doesn’t need to be manufactured – it’s natural and genuine, as everyone present understands exactly what they are there to celebrate.

Ceremonies are often underestimated in a surprisingly simple way: couples worry they are asking too much of their guests’ attention. As they work on their timeline and day-of logistics, it can feel like something to move through quickly or streamline… everyone knows there’s a party waiting on the other side.

A wedding vendor will never hear a guest comment on the length of a ceremony. What they will hear is how guests felt throughout the night following it. Numerous couples recount guests' emotional connections to the words, stories, and messages delivered during the ceremony. Because what they remember is being present within the moment. They are welcomed into the experience in hearing what’s being said and in understanding the significance of the moment. Time disappears entirely.

It’s also worth noting that the ceremony is truly the only point in the day when everyone is gathered, sharing the same experience at the same time. The celebration quickly expands in all different directions once cocktail hour begins; conversations split off, friends reconnect,

and the evening unfolds in smaller, simultaneous moments across the space. It’s a joyful energy, but it’s fragmented.

A meaningful ceremony, in contrast, creates an elusive, rare, and magical pause where every guest is focused, together, and witnessing the same vows and the same message of love.

Guests know the couple is getting married, but when they understand why this couple belongs together, their roles on the day begin to shift.

Celebration builds momentum when people feel emotionally connected from the start, so at its heart, a wedding is an act of hospitality. Extending an invitation to those who matter most to gather and witness a new chapter beginning. And where is this invitation truly extended? At the ceremony.

A memorable reception rarely begins with the first toast or first beat drop. More often, it’s the moments earlier – when a room full of people feel included and understand the meaning of the day, having witnessed something authentic. Conversations deepen. Laughter carries farther. The energy feels effortless, not orchestrated.

The details will start to blur together, and what people will remember most isn’t just how beautiful a wedding looked, but how it felt to be there. That feeling begins at the ceremony where a gathering of guests transforms into a community ready to celebrate. – and not just to party, but to uplift a marriage.

Why Choose a Bespoke Photo Booth?

1. An Eco-Friendly Touch:

As sustainability becomes a cornerstone of wedding planning this photo booth sets itself apart by minimizing environmental impact. With energyefficient equipment and digital-only outputs, it ensures your celebration is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful.

2. A Timeless Aesthetic:

Richmond’s most prestigious venues deserve a photo experience that matches their elegance. A retro-modern photo booth blends seamlessly with classic and high-end aesthetics, offering a sophisticated touch to any event.

The Value for Couples and Planners

3. A Gift for Your Guests:

Think of a modern style photo booth as an extension of your wedding photographer. The photographer captures stunning portraits, and a photo booth ensures that your guests also have a polished, professional keepsake. This means no need to rely on guests to capture their own moments.

4. Customization and Quality:

Ask the photo booth company about personalization. Couples can choose from a variety of backdrops, overlays, and branding options to ensure the booth complements their theme. This level of customization means the booth doesn’t just blend in, it enhances the overall aesthetic.

5. Ideal Booking Timeline:

To secure the best experience, it is recommended to book six to nine months in advance, with nine months being ideal. This ensures ample time for personalization and guarantees availability for your date.

Takeaways

• Value of Quality: Not all photo booths are created equal. Compare offerings and look for one that aligns with your wedding vibe and values.

• A Thoughtful Gift: The booth isn’t just entertainment; it’s a keepsake for your guests, adding a personal touch to the celebration.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT with Fireworks

Few moments wow guests like a grand finale lighting up the sky. Fireworks bring romance, drama, and unforgettable excitement. But they also require some planning to make sure everything is safe, legal, and smooth. Follow these tips to help make the display dazzling, safe, and stress-free.

Why Fireworks Are Worth It

Whether it’s a short, dramatic send- off or a full choreographed production, fireworks deliver emotions and memories that can’t be replicated. They surprise and delight the guests, give photographers jaw- dropping moments to capture, and let the night end on a high note.

The perfect highlight is a 2 to 3 minute high- energy show. Just long enough to wow the crowd but short enough to keep the flow of the night (and your budget!) intact. It’s by far the most popular choice among most couples.

How Much Time (and Budget) Do You Need?

• Quick impact: 30 second to a 1 minute finale – great for putting an exclamation point on the send-off.

• Perfect highlight (Most Popular): 2 to 3 minutes of vibrant, sky filling fireworks. The “sweet spot” chosen by most couples.

• Full experience: 4 to 10 minutes of choreographed magic, often set to music as a pyromusical.

• Epic statement: 10+ minutes of sky painting, with or without a music track adding to the excitement.

Pricing depends on the venue location, county permitting fees, show length, and the types of fireworks used, but generally the quick impact finale or 2 to 3-minute perfect highlight show is the most budget friendly option that still delivers that “wow” factor.

Key Things to Consider

Here’s a checklist to keep it smooth, safe, and spectacular:

• Venue Rules – Check if fireworks are allowed, where they can be set up, and any curfews or noise limits. If the venue is unsure or has never done fireworks before, the pyrotechnician can work with them to explain the process and safety precautions taken so they’re comfortable.

• Licensed Pyrotechnician – This is not optional; it’s the law. Always ask to see their Virginia state license.

• Local Permits & Fire Marshal Coordination – In Virginia, every county or locality has its own permitting process and fees. The technician should handle all communication, paperwork, and site inspections. You or your venue owner may need to be present during a site inspection, depending on the locality’s requirements and fire marshal’s familiarity with the site.

• Insurance – A legitimate pyrotechnics provider will supply proof of liability coverage and name the venue as additionally insured upon request.

• Weather Contingency – Aerial fireworks can still happen in light rain, but excessive wind or lightning can put a halt to a show. Make sure you know what happens if inclement weather causes the show to be canceled.

• Guest Safety – Pros will set safe viewing distances, fallout zones, and work with the venue to control crowds. There may not be much wiggle room here, but trust that the pyrotechnician will give the best options for the most impactful (but safe) show!

Legal and Safety Basics

This is the part couples are often surprised to learn: in Virginia, it is illegal to have a professional fireworks display, outdoor aerial shells, or even “cold spark” fountains without a state certified pyrotechnician in charge.

That means:

• The friend who “knows fireworks” or bought cold spark machines online is not a legal or safe option.

• Even smaller special effects require proper licensing and permitting.

• The State Fire Marshal and local officials have the authority to shut down any unlicensed show and issue fines to not only the person shooting the fireworks, but the venue owner and you, as the host. Not a surprise you want at the wedding!

For indoor or close proximity effects (like cold sparks or other nonflammable spark fountains), there is a different specialized license than the one required for aerial fireworks. Another reason to hire a professional who knows the legal distinctions and who can provide a pyrotechnician with the appropriate license(s) for your specific celebration.

Picture Your Grand Finale

It’s the final moments of the celebration. Guests spill out into the night, laughing and holding sparklers or glow sticks and line up into a tunnel to walk through. The music ramps up and the party keeps going as you walk (or run!) down the aisle of friends and family. You get to the end of the line, then - SURPRISE! The first shell bursts above in brilliant color. For the next few minutes, the sky blooms with your exit song, cheers rise, photos flash, and every face is turned upward, sharing your joy.

As the last spark fades into the night, you’re wrapped in applause, hugs, and the knowledge that you just gave everyone a memory they’ll never forget - and ended the night in the most memorable of ways.

The Bottom Line

In Virginia, hiring a licensed pyrotechnician isn’t just a safety step, it’s the only legal way to have fireworks. The right pro will deliver a breathtaking show while handling all the paperwork, safety planning, and permits, so you can simply enjoy the magic.

If looking for a way to end the wedding on a high note – literally –fireworks are the ultimate statement. Done right, they’re not just a show; they’re the grand exclamation mark at the end of your love story’s first chapter.

INDreamingCOLOR

If someone asks you to think of a bride, odds are you will picture a person in a white gown. The tradition of wearing white dates back to Queen Victoria’s 1840 wedding to Prince Albert. But before she donned what would become the iconic white wedding gown, brides wore just about any color. The wealthy had them made in whatever fabric appealed to them or looked best on them, and brides of lesser means simply wore the best dress in their current wardrobe.

In present times you’ll most likely encounter gowns in various shades of ivory (it turns out pure white isn’t the most flattering, especially in photographs), but to the untrained eye, we see these as the traditional “white” gowns. There have always been rebels (think Gwen Stefani’s in pink ombre), but now color is on trend and designers are

making more of them accessible.

Look for icy or pale hues that add a hint to winter weddings, brighter shades to rival the blooms of spring and summer, and soft options to enhance the ambiance of autumn. From bright blue to soft pink, there are more choices than we’ve seen in many years. Don’t be afraid to ask if you enter the boutique and only see ivory. Designers often send the “safe” choice of an ivory sample, but special-orders can be made in different colors. The stylist can present swatches, or if you just can’t imagine the full effect, simply request a sample one to try on loan in the fabric color(s) that designer offers.

Adding color doesn’t mean you’re limited to a full gown in a single shade. Give a nod to the traditional by choosing an ivory one

embroidered with color. A tinted veil can also add to your ensemble, either matching the dress or adding to the look with color embroidery and embellishments. Some designers are also hand-painting veils with real gold or silver.

It is thrilling to see color seeping back into the world of bridal design, giving even more ways to express yourself on the wedding day. It’s worth it to try an unexpected shade and see if this trend is right for you.

Sharon Townsend is the Owner/Manager of Tiffanys Bridal, a Richmond tradition since 1969. She purchased her own gown from Tiffanys, and after 20 years of freelance wedding planning, she made the boutique her own in 2008. Now she dedicates her time to ensuring all brides remember finding their gown as fondly as she does. To learn more visit tiffanysbridal.com.

Five Wedding Photography Trends Shaping 2026

Weddings are no longer centered solely on the ceremony. Couples are designing immersive experiences that place equal emphasis on celebration, connection, and storytelling. As priorities shift, photography trends are evolving. Today’s couples want imagery that captures not just how their wedding looked, but how it felt. Here are five defining wedding photography trends shaping the year ahead.

The Euresti Co

1

Guest Experience Takes Center Stage

Intentionally curated weddings that feel interactive rather than observational are gaining popularity. This shift is influencing how photographers approach coverage. Instead of focusing exclusively on portraits and formal moments, photographers are documenting guest reactions, candid laughter, and participation in activities. Champagne towers, live painters, and interactive food stations all create movement and emotion, which translate beautifully on camera.

2

Documentary Style Over Perfect Posing

Highly posed photos are becoming less of the focus. Timeless portraits still matter, but the real magic often comes from the candid, unscripted moments in between. Photographers are paying closer attention to what’s happening in real time – the reactions, the laughter, the quick glances people share. Those unscripted moments often become the most meaningful images of the day.

3

Editorial Portraits with Personality

While candid coverage is on the rise, editorial inspired portraits still have their place. The difference in 2026 is personalization. Couples are requesting portraits that reflect their style, whether that means fashion forward poses, dramatic lighting, or unconventional compositions. Photographers are blending editorial direction with authenticity, so images feel polished without losing personality.

4 Film Inspired Aesthetics

Digital photography still dominates, yet many photographers are incorporating film inspired tones and textures into their editing or shooting hybrid coverage with both film and digital formats. Couples are drawn to the nostalgic softness, natural grain, and subtle color shifts associated with film.

5

Intentional Lighting Design

Lighting is no longer treated as a technical detail. Couples and planners are recognizing that lighting design directly affects how a wedding photographs. Candlelit receptions, layered uplighting, and spotlights create dimension and mood. Photographers are collaborating more closely with planners and lighting teams to ensure each moment is captured in its best possible form.

Ultimately, the defining theme across 2026 wedding photography trends is intentionality. Couples are planning experiences with storytelling in mind, and photographers are adapting their approach to reflect that vision. The result is imagery that feels immersive, emotional, and deeply personal. Weddings are no longer just documented. They are artfully preserved.

CHOOSING IN-SEASON WEDDING FLOWERS

When dreaming about wedding flowers, the first instinct is often to search Pinterest for favorite blooms. While inspo boards are a great place to begin, one factor that can dramatically affect the final cost of floral design is seasonality. Simply put, flowers that naturally bloom during the time of your wedding are usually easier for florists to source, more abundant, and therefore more budget-friendly.

Richmond’s climate allows for a beautiful range of flowers throughout the year. Planning with the seasons in mind can stretch a floral budget while still delivering a stunning look.

SPRING

(March–May)

Spring is one of the most popular wedding seasons in Central Virginia for good reason. Many flowers are naturally blooming. Tulips, ranunculus, anemones, sweet peas, lilac, and peonies begin appearing during this time. Garden roses and flowering branches are also common. Because these blooms are widely available in spring, they tend to be more affordable and look especially fresh and lush. Spring arrangements often feel romantic and airy, with soft pastels or vibrant garden colors.

SUMMER

(June–August)

Summer weddings in Richmond bring bold color and plenty of texture. Popular seasonal blooms include dahlias, zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, and lisianthus. Hydrangeas, often grown locally, are also abundant and make beautiful statement flowers for centerpieces and bouquets. Because many of these flowers grow well in the region, florists can often source them from nearby farms, which keeps costs manageable while giving designs a fresh, locally grown feel.

FALL

(September–November)

Autumn weddings often feature rich colors and natural textures. Dahlias continue into early fall and remain a favorite for bouquets. Chrysanthemums, marigolds, amaranthus, and celosia are also common during this season. Florists frequently incorporate foliage such as eucalyptus, maple leaves, and berry branches to create warmth and depth. Because many of these elements are plentiful in fall, they help create full, dramatic designs without relying on expensive imported blooms.

WINTER

(December–February)

Winter weddings may require a bit more creativity, since fewer flowers are naturally in season locally. However, beautiful options still exist. Roses, ranunculus, hellebores, anemones, and orchids are commonly used, often paired with winter greenery like pine, cedar, and eucalyptus. While some flowers may need to be imported, using seasonal greenery and thoughtful design can still create elegant arrangements without pushing the budget too far.

The key takeaway? Trust your florist’s guidance. By building designs around flowers that naturally bloom near your wedding date, you’ll often get better quality blooms, fuller arrangements, and a more efficient use of your floral budget, all while embracing the beauty of the season in Richmond.

On October 11, 2025, family and friends gathered in Richmond for a day Emma describes in five words: pink, playful, whimsy, joyous, local. The couple exchanged vows at St. James's Episcopal Church before celebrating downtown at Quirk Hotel, where bold design and heartfelt details created an unforgettable atmosphere.

Emma’s vision centered on one priority: fun. From the moment guests stepped into the reception, it was clear this would be a party to remember. A pink striped dance floor set the tone, while thoughtful details, like custom cups featuring Max and Odie, added personality and charm. During cocktail hour, guests were treated to a breathtaking pink sunset on the rooftop, a serendipitous backdrop that felt almost too perfect to plan.

One of Emma’s favorite moments was stealing away to soak in that sunset glow with Charlie before the evening festivities began. Charlie’s highlight was sitting down at the piano with the band to play Bruce Springsteen, a surprise that had the crowd cheering. Their first dance to Swept Away by The Avett Brothers was tender and romantic, while Murder on the Dancefloor became an unexpected high energy favorite as the night unfolded.

Their advice to future couples? “Take time to soak it all in, just the two of you. It goes by so fast. And don’t feel pressure to do everything the traditional way. It’s your day.”

With a joyful crowd, a packed dance floor, and a cotton candy sky overhead, Emma and Charlie’s wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are, vibrant, heartfelt, and entirely their own.

Hannahand Kyal’s love story began in early 2021 in the mail room of their apartment complex. One evening, Hannah was collecting her mail when a playful German Shorthaired Pointer named Cooper ran up to her. Kneeling to give Cooper some affection, she looked up just as Kyal turned the corner. A simple “hi” sparked a connection that would change their lives forever.

Determined to see him again, Hannah tracked Kyal down on social media and sent him a follow request on Instagram, which he quickly accepted. A few days later, Hannah spotted Kyal at a local trivia night. Each round, she volunteered to deliver her team’s answers, conveniently passing by his table. Kyal couldn’t get her off his mind and left sweet notes on her car, his persistence and care eventually winning her heart.

The proposal took place in July 2023 during Kyal’s family vacation in Hilton Head Island. Kyal got down on one knee just before dinner, and both of their families were waiting behind a sand dune to celebrate the moment Hannah said “YES!”

The wedding day reflected their vision perfectly: elegant, timeless, unforgettable, joyful, and heartwarming. The “timeless elegance” theme focused on creating a guest experience that was just as meaningful as it was beautiful. From the florals to the lighting, each element was intentional and personal.

The ceremony and reception at Dover Hall was flawless. Hannah shared a quiet, intimate first look in the courtyard with Kyal, where they read their handwritten vows. “It was just the two of us before the whirlwind of the day began,” Hannah recalled. Guests were wowed by every detail, from the elegant décor to the Italian cookie table (a nod to Hannah’s heritage), mini wedding cakes, and late-night treats like chicken sandwiches and espresso martinis on the dance floor. Bonus laughter came when Kyal nervously said “Yes” instead of “I do” during the ceremony, to which Hannah winked back at him, making everyone erupt with laughter.

Their advice for couples? “Truly enjoy every moment. Laugh together, lean on each other, prioritize your relationship above all else. And trust me -- drink lots of water, practice walking in your shoes, and don’t look at Instagram or Pinterest in the month before your wedding!”

Scout and Beau’s story began in the summer of 2019 at the University of Virginia. Beau was visiting one of his close friends for the weekend, who also happened to be one of Scout’s best guy friends. What started as a casual introduction slowly turned into something more, and by November 2020, they officially began dating.

For two years, their relationship was defined by long distance and late-night phone calls as they built their careers. After completing her first travel nursing contract, Scout made the move to be closer to Beau. From that point on, they were inseparable, building a life side by side.

On April 14, 2024, Beau planned what Scout believed was a simple afternoon of graduation photos at the University of Richmond. As a soon to be law school graduate, he asked her to join him so they could take a few photos together. After walking the campus, they stopped in front of the chapel. Earlier that morning, Beau mentioned bringing “props” for the pictures, so when he stepped away to grab something from his bag, Scout thought nothing of it. Seconds later, he was on one knee. Through tears, she listened as he told her how much he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. She said yes without hesitation.

The celebration unfolded at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, a setting that felt both grand and meaningful. Among the most personal touches of the day was Scout’s sister serving as officiant. Instead of opting for a traditional pastor, they chose someone who knew their story firsthand. She wove in memories, shared inside moments, and spoke about their relationship with an intimacy no one else could replicate. The ceremony felt less like a formality and more like a reflection of who they truly are.

Scout’s vision centered on florals that would make a statement. Sculptural arrangements transformed the museum space, blending romantic blooms with artistic structure that complemented the setting beautifully.

Their advice to couples is simple. Do not dwell on the small details and just enjoy the moment. At the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend, and that is what matters most.

Some love stories begin with a swipe or a chance encounter. Layne and Tanner’s began decades before they ever met. Back in the 1970s, their mothers became dear friends and remained close through the years. Fast forward to their time at James Madison University, where the two were finally living in the same place at the same time.

In September 2020, Layne attended her sister’s wedding, where both moms made lighthearted comments about Tanner. Curious, Layne asked for his number “just to grab lunch.” Lunch turned into apple picking, which turned into movie nights, dinners, and countless drives between their Harrisonburg apartments. Through study abroad semesters and long stretches of distance after graduation, they continued cheering each other on.

In August 2023, they closed the distance for good and moved into their Harrisonburg apartment, adopting a sweet kitty named Jody and building their life side by side. The following May, during a long-anticipated trip to Greece, Tanner suggested a walk to a lighthouse in Crete before dinner. After asking a “random photographer” to snap a photo, Tanner got down on one knee. As Layne said yes, a sailboat passed and the crowd erupted in cheers. They spent the rest of the week celebrating across Greece.

Their wedding was exactly what Layne had envisioned, a smilefilled, botanical, dance party. The couple filled the venue with blooms, lining the aisle with potted hydrangeas and hanging wisteria from the ceiling. Color was everywhere, from the florals to the tablescapes.

One of the most unforgettable moments came during the fatherdaughter dance. As they swayed to Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman, Layne’s dad surprised her with a tiara. Not a dry eye in sight. “I will always be his little princess,” she shared.

Their first dance to Life at First Sight by Alexander Stewart was heartfelt and romantic, while Don't Stop Believin' by Journey kept the dance floor packed. A private last dance to From the Ground Up by Dan + Shay closed the night.

Their advice to couples? Remember this is one of the few times you will be surrounded by everyone who loves you, a once in a lifetime honor.

Shannen and Josh’s love story began in the most unexpected way, between shifts at The Boathouse, where she worked as a bus girl and he had just stepped into a management role. A Snapchat friend request sparked their first real connection, though Shannen laughs that she was the one who truly made the first move. Their playful connection grew quickly, and the kind of easy chemistry that makes you just know. Six months into dating, Shannen moved in with Josh, starting their life together!

Josh planned the proposal with every detail in mind, knowing how much Shannen loves good photos. He took her to Alvis Farms during their sunflower festival, where they snapped a few adorable pictures together. As the festival wrapped up and they were among the last visitors, Josh proposed privately at sunset in the sunflower field. It was sweet, intimate, and perfectly captured their personalities and love story.

Their wedding day carried that same sense of authenticity and charm. Set against the backdrop of Richmond, the celebration blended classic elegance with a whimsical, garden inspired aesthetic. A soft palette of whites, olive tones, and hints of gold and black created a look that felt both refined and organic. Every detail felt intentional yet relaxed, perfectly reflecting their personalities.

One of the most memorable moments came during the ceremony, officiated by Josh’s grandfather, which added a deeply personal and emotional touch. The couple’s beloved dog stole hearts as ring bearer, while a thoughtfully designed bar and inviting atmosphere kept guests mingling and celebrating all evening long.

From start to finish, Shannen and Josh created a day that felt effortlessly chic, joy filled, and uniquely their own. Their advice to future couples is simple. Enjoy the day to its fullest.

Emma and Cole’s love story began with a swipe. They matched on Tinder just two days before the start of their junior year of college and planned a first date at a restaurant in their college town. From the moment they met in person, something clicked. Dinner turned into hours of effortless conversation, and later that night they joined his friends for a bonfire. Long after the fire burned out and everyone else went home, the two of them stayed, talking under the stars. It didn’t take long to realize they had found something lasting.

Three years later, after graduating, beginning their careers, and settling into a new town together, Cole planned a proposal that felt completely true to them. On June 9, 2024, he brought Emma to the waterfront in Alexandria for a day filled with their favorite things: great food, beautiful views, drinks, and card games. As they stood overlooking the water, he asked her to spend forever with him. It was, in her words, the easiest yes of her life.

Their wedding day reflected that same intentionality. With just 21 guests, Emma and Cole chose to keep their celebration intimate, allowing them to truly soak in every moment. Held at Quirk Hotel, the day embraced the venue’s colorful personality. Their vision was simple yet meaningful: bright, sentimental, natural, joyful, and floral.

Instead of traditional separate reception tables, they opted for one long dinner table, creating the feeling of a cozy family gathering rather than a formal event. Laughter echoed as guests shared a meal together, celebrating not just a marriage but two families joining as one. After dinner, everyone made their way to the rooftop bar to watch the sunset over the city, a perfectly relaxed ending to a heartfelt day.

Their favorite moment came during the ceremony as they read personal vows to one another. Emma admits she was nervous to speak in front of everyone, but once she stood across from Cole, it felt like they were the only two people in the room. There were tears, laughter, and the kind of quiet intimacy that defines a truly meaningful wedding day.

HEALED

On this past season of American Idol, a young artist by the name of Jamal Roberts delivered a stirring rendition of Tom Odell’s song, Healed. This rendition sent shock waves of emotion throughout the crowd and the world and has been an anthem for healing. Also around the world, millions of couples are preparing for the most wonderful and momentous day of their lives. MARRIAGE. In preparing for the wedding day, you have aesthetically dotted every i and crossed every t. But have you worked on the inside you?

Emotional healing before walking down the aisle or standing with the officiant is imperative. It is one of the most important things that can be done for the two of you. Unhealed trauma and issues have a way of breaking down the strongest of relationships. You are just beginning life as husband and wife. Don’t bring any extra people, drama, trauma, or issues. Know who you are and your worth. Two whole people, not two broken ones, equal a healthy marriage.

This relationship may now be wonderful, but often, previous ones may not have been ideal. There may be unhealed wounds from

an old boy/girlfriend. There may have been abuse, physical, emotional, and mental. This may affect the way you engage in common dialogue. Learn how to effectively communicate with your spouse and don’t expect them to just know your feelings and needs. Do not take these negative feelings and dispositions into the marriage. Be in a place of wholeness when finally saying “I do”.

Marriage does not automatically erase all of the past feelings, attitudes and issues that you experienced with an ex. Any feeling of betrayal, abandonment, and stress should not be brought into the new marriage. Forgive anyone who has ever hurt you. Bringing this into the marriage is not good for you, and also it is not fair to your spouse. Heated arguments and disagreements can bring out the worst in us. In those moments, resist the urge to throw stones from the past by bringing up what a former partner did in a previous relationship.

As much as we love our families, there may have been dysfunctional marital situations that we deem as being “normal”. What was seen or not seen growing up may affect how you view marriage as a whole. Your single parent may have been one hundred percent supportive, but they may not be the best person to ask for advice. Talk openly and honestly to your future spouse concerning expectations.

The best thing to do before getting married is to seek counseling or therapy from a licensed coach or therapist. The relationship can get stronger and stronger every day with strategies from counseling and constant healthy communication between you and your spouse.

Even the BEST Have a COACH. Make Your Marriage the G.O.A.T.

In all the excitement of wedding planning, no one wants to think about divorce. Trust us, it is not something we want to talk about in a wedding magazine either. But with roughly over 50% of all marriages ending in divorce or separation, it is something we MUST address! After all, getting married is much more than planning for one day, it’s planning for the rest of your lives together.

Now, what if we told you that there is something that you can do together as a couple to cut down your chances of experiencing divorce by 30%? You would do it, right? Studies show that attending premarital coaching as a couple will decrease your chances of divorce by a third.

This is where the Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia comes in. Before you think we are putting the cart before the horse, let us explain. Strong men become strong husbands and strong husbands become strong fathers. If a man knows early on that the greatest gift he can give his children is to love their mother, then we must build upon the foundation — a strong, enduring marriage. FFVA’s mission is purpose-driven, educating men to be stronger husbands and more active fathers to drive true systemic change in the Commonwealth. To fulfill this mission, you must begin at the heart of the family; the relationships. Whether you’re single, engaged, married or in a longterm relationship, FFVA offers coaching and engaging programming that provide practical tools for building strong and fulfilling relationships.

Chris Beach, CEO of FFVA states, “Many of the men we serve through our programs come from a family without a dad and never witnessed what a healthy relationship looks like.” Speaking from experience, Chris came from a broken home where he was stuck between his mom and dad going through a divorce. “When you are old enough

to understand what is going on between mom and dad, it makes you want to do better for your children”, says Beach. “My wife and I are raising four boys to not only be strong men but loving husbands and fathers.” In his role with the organization, he has worked with men from all backgrounds and situations and the one thing that he has never heard a man say is, “I want to be a bad dad.” Many of them just did not have one around to show the way.

“When my dad wasn’t around, I looked up to my coach,” Chris continued. In a man’s life, if dad is not present, a coach likely fills that role. There are business coaches, athletic coaches, and even birth coaches. Eventually you will retire, your athletic career will come to an end, and once the baby is born, you achieved your goal. Isn’t your marriage supposed to last ‘til death do you part? Coaching does not mean that there is something wrong. It means that you want it to be the best it can be. If a lasting marriage is the goal, shouldn't a coach be there to help achieve happily ever after?

According to studies, less than half of couples getting married go through pre-marital coaching. In addition, most people who are officiating weddings don’t even require it. But if the success rate of marriage increases because of coaching, shouldn’t you make it a priority? That’s a no-brainer! Coaching is different than counseling. Coaching starts where you are and gives couples the tools to be successful in their relationships. It is an opportunity to slow down

during wedding planning, connect with your spouse, talk about what will happen and COULD happen after you say I do, and the good and bad of being married. Topics that are covered in pre-marital coaching include communication, problem solving, finances, sex and affection, children, religious beliefs, and dealing with family.

Are you still not sold on pre-marital coaching? Ask yourselves if you and your partner have had conversations about these few things:

How many children do you want? And how soon?

How much time will we spend with each other’s family?

How would you handle a job loss or a sudden move?

What roles do you find yourself taking around the house?

What will you spend your money on?

How often do you plan on being intimate?

If you haven’t discussed these topics as a couple, many of them lead to conflict in a marriage. Studies show that the top reasons for arguments in a marriage are finances, sex, children, and IN-LAWS. Coaching offers a safe space for productive conversations, an opportunity to share your feelings, and growth as a couple.

Think you would have trouble getting the man to buy in? That’s the beauty of our pre-marital programs. We are an organization that helps educate MEN. And it is not counseling, it is coaching. Reality is even Tom Brady and Michael Jordan had a coach. Tell him you want your marriage to be the G.O.A.T. The team from FFVA not only coach new couples, but they also coach couples who are getting remarried and blending families. They will help couples learn from previous relationships to create a stronger foundation and clearer communication for success in their new union.

Once you’re are part of FFVA, they will be with you for many of life’s big events. After the big day, they offer fun date night opportunities with relationship lessons built in. If you are the proactive type, grab a bunch of friends and host your own date night letting FFVA do all the planning. Whether you are looking to grow with couples you know, or meet new couples, FFVA offers opportunities to make memories, have fun, and learn tips to grow stronger together.

Coaching is different than counseling. Coaching starts where you are and gives couples the tools to be successful in their relationships.

And it doesn’t stop there! Strong relationships lead to wanting and having children. FFVA offers New Dad 101, a ‘Vegas’ conversation for New Dads by Real Dads, giving men a safe space to ask questions they’re embarrassed to ask in front of mom. A Real Dad talks you through what conversations you should have and what you should have done before the baby is born, what will happen in the hospital, and what to expect when you get home. Starting every class with the three guiding principles 1) there is no such thing as a perfect dad, 2) there is no such thing as a dumb question and 3) the most important relationship you will show your children is the one with their mom. This class gives new dads the confidence they need to be a part of their child’s life from when they first see the ultrasound to when they take their first steps. You can find all these programs and much more by going to their website at vadad.org.

To make pre-marital coaching an even easier decision, the preassessment and four sessions of coaching are only $150. Considering the significant cost of a wedding and added expense if a divorce should occur, isn’t a fraction of the cost of both of those worth it? Even better, mention RVA Weddings and FFVA will take off $25 dollars. Know another couple getting married? Give them pre-marital coaching. Invest in a nice set of mixing bowls or invest in your marriage? You make the call. We have the coach that can help.

To get started, go to wecoachcouples.org. If you still have questions, you can email admin@vadad.org. To learn about upcoming events, follow FFVA on Instagram @fatherhoodfoundationva.

Q& A WITH KAYLEE, A RECENT BRIDE

Q. What made you want to take control of your skin?

A. My acne started in my younger teens which led to unbearable scarring. I didn’t know how to take care of my skin. I felt like I couldn't leave the house without piles of makeup on. It was time for me to finally do something about it, and I’m so glad that I did because I barely wear makeup anymore. I feel so much more confident and comfortable in my skin!

Q. How far in advance did you start treatment? What treatments did you receive?

A. I started treatment less than a year before my wedding, which I didn’t think was enough time. Dr. Agnihotri assured me that this was enough time to achieve my goals, and we got started a month later. I had two Hydrafacials and then two microneedling sessions. I also received Obagi® Rebalancing Cream, their medical grade skin care products.

Q. How fast did you notice the results?

A. After the first microneedling session, it was really kind of crazy. My husband, (fiancé at the time) said, “Oh my gosh, your skin looks so different. Are you wearing makeup?” And I said “No!”

Q. What was your experience like with Dr. Agnihotri and the ACS Team?

A. I cannot say enough good things about them. Dr. Agnihotri didn’t rush; he took the time to talk to me before each procedure and made me feel really calm throughout the whole process. There aren't a lot of people like him, it’s so refreshing. I can’t pinpoint exactly what to say about the team because everything sounds right. They made me feel so good, and their location is very convenient.

Q. Is the investment worth it?

A. Oh my gosh, yes! Also, I now know how to use skin care products properly because of Dr. Agnihotri.

Q. Anything else you want to mention or any advice for current/future brides?

A. Skin care is extremely important. You can put as much makeup on your face as you want, but at the end of the day, clear, beautiful skin is so worth it. Take care of your skin. Go have this experience, thank me later.

RECEPTION SITE When choosing a venue, be clear on what is included in the rental fee such as chairs, tables, linens, etc. Plan on 50% of your budget going toward the reception because this will include your venue fee, food, beverage, rentals, etc.

The Estate at Independence includes all these items as well as an onsite coordinator.

BUDGET

CATERER/FOOD/BEVERAGE Before you sign the contract, be sure to look at the food and beverage minimums. If you are looking to stay within a budget, limit the bar to beer and wine or add a little bit of personality with a signature beverage!

The Estate at Independence has lowered its rental fee to help ensure you have a fantastic meal at your reception!

The Estate at Independence offers many breathtaking spots for portraits, ceremonies and receptions including these.

DJ VS. BAND When making this decision, know the rules of the venue and the space available. A 5-piece band is going to need more space than a DJ! Many places, like The Estate at Independence, welcome both.

FLOWERS Some ceremony sites speak for themselves and don’t need an abundance of flowers. You can then focus your floral budget on the reception space and really WOW your guests.

GRATUITIES For your caterer or food service, gratuity is always added into your bottom line, but you do have other wonderful vendors on the day of that you can treat. Keep this in mind when thinking about your budget. Be sure to arrange envelopes with each vendor’s name on it so your planner can easily handle it on the wedding day.

ACCOMMODATIONS Venues will often work with nearby hotels who can offer room block pricing.

Other venues such as The Estate at Independence offer custom onsite lodging for the newlyweds or family and the bridal party.

Information provided by Total Wine. Learn more at www.totalwine.com

Let’s

do the math

Use these simple formulas to determine roughly how many bottles you’ll need for your reception.

WINE:

A x B x 0.5 ÷ 5 = 750ml Bottles Needed

BEER:

A x B x 0.3 = 12 oz. Servings of Beer Needed

SPIRITS:

A x B x 0.2 ÷ 15 = 750ml Bottles Needed

Not serving cocktails?

Plan on a mix of 60 percent wine, 40 percent beer.

WINE:

A x B x 0.6 ÷ 5 = 750ml Bottles Needed

A = Number of Guests

B = Drinks required per guest

Based on length of party

1 hour = 2 drinks

2 hours = 3 drinks

3 hours = 4 drinks

4 hours = 5 drinks

5 hours = 6 drinks

BEER:

A x B x 0.4 = 12 oz. Servings of Beer Needed
