Let’s jump in the Pool! Making the decision to add a new aboveground pool to your backyard? If so, congratulations! On the market this week, a lot of things are to consider when shopping for a pool... If you are buying an aboveground pool, you, your family & friends will enjoy countless hours of fun, games & exercise this swim season, and for years to come. In order to help you select the aboveground swimming pool that will be perfect for your family, your backyard & your budget, we'd like to offer a few planning suggestions things to consider as you shop. If you have any questions about the information below, please feel free to contact your aboveground pool experts for professional answers and advice. Budget Aboveground swimming pools are a great value, and can be significantly less expensive than an inground pool of the same size. It's still important however, to have a budget in mind as you shop. Consider not only the cost of the swimming pool itself, but also the products you'll need in order to start swimming and enjoying your new pool and then shop within that budget. In addition to the swimming pool, you will need a vinyl liner, a pump & filter system, a skimmer and a way to enter and exit your pool either a ladder or set of steps. Yard Space The next thing to consider after budget is the amount of available space in your backyard for a new aboveground pool. Make sure that the pool you choose is appropriately sized in relation to the overall yard - including landscaping, existing decking, driveway, fencing and other permanent features or obstructions. Consider the specific location within your yard for your pool too... don't make a hasty decision, plan it out so your pool is convenient and easy to use. Go out to your backyard with a measuring tape and either stakes & string or spray paint - measure out the pool dimensions and mark the area where you'd like the swimming pool to be located.
Style & Shape In addition to the amount of yard space your new aboveground pool will take up, you should also think about how you and your family will use your new pool. For example, is a 48" side wall sufficient for your needs, or should you consider an extra-deep 54" style? Are your swimmers experienced or novice? Will they mainly splash & jump (in which case a round pool might be sufficient) or do you intend to use the pool for water games or exercise (in which case an oval shape might be preferred). Will your new pool attach to a deck or platform, or be free-standing? This will impact the type of style of ladder and/or steps you will need. Power Source Your swimming pool will require access to electricity, to power the pump & filter system, plus lighting and other optional equipment you may want to include. We recommend you run a new, dedicated 110V electrical line for your pool, and trench it underground (add the cost of this to your pool budget in these cases). This is also a great time to consider whether your pool will (either now or in the future) include a heater or heat pump. Warmer water will not only extend the length of your swim season, but will also let you enjoy more nighttime swims too. Heaters and heat pumps are typically powered by propane or natural gas, but there are also units available that run on electricity or heating oil. Pool Water You'll need to think about where the water will come from that you use to fill our swimming pool. In most locations, you can simply use your existing water supply and fill the pool using a standard garden hose. If your pool is located in a remote area (in relation to the hose), if you have well water or simply do not want to use "tap water" to fill your pool, you can contract with a water supply company to truck in water for your pool. Verify all municipality, requirements before you select and install your new aboveground pool. A little advance planning could save you from a hefty fine - or worse, having to re-install a finished aboveground pool.

Tortured by the decision of whether or not to get divorced? One of our readers wrote this comment and I find it to be very true, here it is... “Staying married is a choice you make on a daily basis, every morning when you wake up and look over at your snoring spouse, you're deciding—on some level—to stay married one more day. Most people want to wait until they are sure and have no regrets about their decision. But it's impossible... Impossible to hurt the people important to you and not have some lingering doubt about your decision. It's impossible to assign your kids the designation of being "from a broken home" and not have some lasting sadness. It doesn't mean your decision to divorce is wrong. And although it's imperative to take your time making this decision, folks often get mired in time-wasting efforts that do nothing but delay the inevitable and keep them imprisoned in pre-divorce misery. Just as Nature is experiencing an explosion of Spring budding in her trees and gardens, our Angels tell us that, so too, have we entered into a new period of awakening. Never before, has the veil between worlds been so thin. Never before, has it been easier to hear our Angels. They are so happy to send us new inklings & inspirations to help guide us in this next portion of our earthly journey. They are asking that more than ever, we take the time to hear them! But how? You may ask... Take a few moments out of the incessant noise and busyness of the day. Take three slow,deep breaths and close your eyes...Ask them a specific question, if you like. Then just listen... It doesn't help to purse your lips or scrunch up your forehead. You're not trying to push something out of you, you are looking to receive a message. Re-lax...Just allow....
Angel messages come into your awareness like a ripe, plump, juicy apple falling from a tree. Extraneous forcing and coercing 'answers' come from Ego, not the Angels. When we listen to that 'small, still voice' inside us, or heed that gut feeling, or all of a sudden experience a flash of brilliance, a 'Light Bulb Moment', it's important for us to follow through as it is the guidance for which we have asked. Our Angels can never interfere with our free will, the choices we make are ours alone. However, Angels will indeed give us messages that will place us on our better path, if we notice, then heed them. If you receive a positive message, then congratulations! Size IS Important! When we're talking about building the perfect dog house. For a decade my hubby and I lived up in isolation in the arctic, we built countless dog houses and secretly placed them in the backyards of local dog custodians who didn't realize (or care) that their non-Nordic breeds would quickly freeze to death in -80 temps without the extra protection. Over the course of those years, we managed to finetune the details and create, "The Perfect Dog House." Granted, our local temperatures here, may never get to the extremes of the high arctic. Still, if your dog spends any significant amount of time outside when it is convenient for all parties to have a little 'me' time, it is appropriate for him to have a comfortable, little 'getaway' place to call his own. While some people may think 'bigger is better' this rule does not apply to dog houses, especially in colder weather. The dog needs to be able to generate enough heat to keep himself warm and he cannot do this if there is too much space in there for him to heat. However, he'll need a little extra room in there in the heat of the summertime so as not to overheat.

If he has to crouch down and squeeze himself into it, reminding you of trying to fit a marshmallow into a keyhole, it's too small! After getting into it, if he stands up and walks away wearing it like Genghis Khan going off to war, it's too small!

You'll know it's too big if while inside, your dog can actually stand up on its hind legs and dance a jig. You'll know it's too big when you look inside and find him in there with all his buddies like a scene out of a 'dog's playing
poker' painting. You'll know it's too big when he's dragged Dad's hammock inside and it fits.
So Goldilocks, when is size 'just perfect'? You'll know it's the perfect size when, your dog can enter it with two inches to spare on all sides. You'll know it's the perfect size when, your dog will be able to circle three times inside of it and lay down without any discomfort (even if he's just eaten a big meal) . You'll know it's the perfect size when, you have taken the 'two inch' rule to heart. Your dog must have a clearance of two inches above his ears when he enters as well as two extra inches on each side of him. Any less than that and it will simply be too small and uncomfortable for him especially as he ages and can't make those tight turns anymore. So how do we know how much space he'll need inside his dog house? Simple! Measure your dog. Pick a time when he's lying down on the floor or on his bed, and just measure a "+" over him. Then add two inches a piece. That takes care of length and width. For height: Get your tape measure, have someone hold him while he stands and measure from the floor to the top of his ears. Then add two inches. Be sure to make the roof of the dog house flat and on a slight slant. Dog's love the option of being able to sleep either in or on top of their house. The slight slant keeps rain from pooling on top. Adding a hinge to the roof will make cleaning it out a breeze. Double walls with insulation will keep him warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Ensure the house is raised off of the ground by placing it on bricks or wood. This allows a couple of inches of air space underneath to discourage rot and for extra insulation. It doesn't take a 'village to raise a dog house', but getting the kids involved is a fun way of having them learn a little responsibility and respect for all life, as well as compassion in doing a good thing for a cherished family member.
