Why Shop Locally While researching the benefits and consequences of shopping locally, I was astonished to find out how much of an impact shopping locally can have on our local economy. Local First. Sounds simple enough. Should be easy. I can do that. However, when I go to the doctor in Ottawa, while I'm there I'll just stop by the shopping centre and pick up a few things so I don't have to stop when I get back. Oh, and I should stop at the Hardware store and see what they have for flooring so I can get started on the renovations in the basement. And maybe I should stop at the pharmacy for that prescription in my wallet, by then I'll need lunch. And so it spirals ... Why not wait till I get back home, and spend my money where it will benefit my community? Are we saying don't ever shop out of town? No, but we are saying look at local businesses first. If the quality of the product and the quality of service is what you want, it only makes sense to shop at home. Every dollar spent in town will be re-spent seven times before it leaves your
community. If we all shop local first, the spiral will be upward not downward, and we will all benefit. We want and need our neighbouring business to succeed; if they succeed, we succeed. Any and all new businesses should be welcomed with open arms. They will bring employees and customers to shop at your business. DID YOU KNOW... Not many people know that the car-making company Lamborghini started out as a tractor-manufacturing company. The reason for the shift from farm vehicles to super cars would be because of a feud against Enzo Ferrari—who obviously owns the Italian high-end sports car manufacturing company Ferrari. Ferrucio Lamborghini was a simple man born into a family who farmed grapes for a living. His mechanical knowledge and interest eventually lead him to enter the business of making tractors. His tractor manufacturing became very popular and lucrative - And so he buys a Ferrari. After owning it for some time, he then noticed that it had an inferior clutch that would always break. He brings up the complaint all the way to the owner, Enzo Ferrari, and argued to him that his tractors had better clutches than Ferrari cars. Pridefilled Enzo Ferrari shrugged off his complaint thinking that a mere farmer had nothing against the prestige and pedigree of his Ferrari cars... This is what pushed Ferrucio Lamborghini into the business of automobiles!

Take every opportunity throughout your day, your life, to do so. And you will walk your right and true path for all time. Always. Humans think every-thing needs to be complicated to make a difference but this is not so. It takes very little effort to create massive change and when you do for one, you do for everyone. Remember this too, the next time you question if you should bother to stop and help, even the least of beings.

When I tuned into the Angels this morning, I was very happy to hear Archangel Gabriel (which means, 'The Strength of God') would speak today. One of his specialities is 'communication'. Separation Anxiety We all love the close relationships we have with our pets but if you notice that your pet is beginning to exhibit signs of ~extreme stress~ when you are apart, it's time to take action. Separation Anxiety (SA) goes beyond the normal signs of boredom and deserves more information than you can receive in just one article. If you believe your pet has SA after reading this, please take the time for thorough research. With SA, your pet may start whining, panting heavily, and stick by your side clearly distressed even before you leave the house. Once you do go out, your pets' behaviour may escalate. He can begin frantic pacing, incessant barking, he can chew up doorframes, rip up couches, vomit and/or poop and pee in inappropriate places or even harm himself by chewing his nails, feet or tail till it bleeds. Your cat may relieve herself outside of the litter box and groom herself to the point of making an open sore on her body. Some birds over pluck multiple feathers till almost bald. These are all signs of extreme stress= Separation Anxiety. Causes of SA are varied. Certain breeds of dog and cat lean towards it. (do your research!) It can stem from diet. Get rid of cheap, dead, processed foods. For the best health both mental and physical, always start by feeding a biologically, species appropriate diet. Some believe SA may be caused by 'Vaccinosis'. Did your pet begin this undesirable behaviour shortly after receiving his vaccinations? A few previously abused, rescue pets may adopt SA as a form of coping. Sometimes, SA is triggered by a significant change in routine, ie: a move, a new job, a new baby or pet in the house, or a death in the family. Even the Custodian's temperament, can play a role in a pet suffering from SA. Relieving your pet's extreme stress is the key to treating Separation Anxiety. Most importantly, never, EVER punish a pet with SA, as it will exasperate the problem. While not always easy, it's important to take the time needed to help your furbaby through this very upsetting condition. However unpleasant it is for you, remember it's your pet who is experiencing the worst of this situation. Giving your pet pills will temporarily mask the problem not cure it, so please use pills as a last resort and only

with strict veterinary supervision. However, you can give your pet one of the Bach Flower remedies, like 'Rescue Remedy' which works on all species, on the energetic level, without side-effects. Use as directed as this will help calm your pet. Burning off excess energy can only help here, so ensure your pet has been well-exercised before being left alone. Obedience training is a must (for everyone!) but great communication is essential to good behaviour. Put yourself in your pet's position and try to understand why he might feel 'abandoned'. Explain to your pet that you have to go out for awhile simply by talking to him or making pictures in your head of going out and coming back. Tell him how long you'll be gone and when he can expect you home. Be calm and clear in your explanations as though talking to your child or spouse. Don't make a big fuss by displaying long good-byes. Keep it low key, like it's no big deal, after all, you'll be back! You can leave a radio on classical music or the television on for company. Just make sure he can't access and chew on a live, electrical cord if he does stress out. Some people believe in crating their dogs before going out but you must be certain your pet is absolutely comfortable, and safe in it, otherwise their anxiety can escalate to new levels causing severe damage. Leaving your pet with a toy, like a frozen Kong filled with treats, sealed with a little peanut butter can be fun and occupying. It may be that your pet will need to be slowly de-sensitized over time. Practise leaving him for only a moment, then 5 minutes, then 15 minutes, etc... building up until he gets that you will be returning to him, eventually. The maximum time you should ever leave your pet is 8 hours. You shouldn't expect your pet to hold his bowels or urine longer than eight hours. A puppy or older dog, can hold it for significantly less time. Cats and birds who use litters can be left longer if not affected by SA. Having someone come in to check on your pet while you are out can be helpful, as would be some sort of pet 'day-care'. Your pet is a member of your family which you chose to add to your life. Remembering this, will help you keep in mind it is worth your short-term time investment now to relieve this issue, for long term peace of mind for all involved.
