Hello Neighbors, What do you receive for your quarterly assessments of $200, and how can you get the maximum value for your buck? First, let's look and see what you get: free usage of our modern exercise equipment and swimming pool, access to free Lunch 'n' Learns as well as access to the many excursions planned monthly by our Lifestyle Director, Debbie Kent. You can use our community center, tennis courts, and pickleball courts. You can also enjoy our basketball facilities and a friendly game of ping pong. Our exercise classes are second to none, and you can participate in as many as you'd like. You are free to join and participate in any club activities and enjoy on-site entertainment presented in the Vista Room, along with free first-run movies twice monthly. I suspect I have left something out, but you get the drift, mainly we have a vibrant, active, friendly and highly enjoyable way to spend our retirement years. So how do you get your monies worth? In a word, participate. Join clubs, attend activities and events; so, that you become a thread in the fabric that makes up the place we call home. Go to committee meetings and hear what the major concerns are and what is being done to solve issues. Attending events in the community center allows you to see friends and make new ones. It is a known medical fact that people who stay physically and mentally active, live longer and happier lives than those who don't. In conclusion, I'd like to wish my Jewish friends and neighbors, a very happy New Year and a meaningful Day of Atonement.

BOARD MESSAGE Let's discuss the Sun City Aliante budget. I have a few items of interest to share with you. First, let's discuss the Sun City Aliante budget. I believe the Board was quite pleased we were not “tarred and feathered,” when the increase in our monthly fee was approved. Most homeowners understand that we have been operating with the same fee structure since we began in 2003. This year, the Board knew we were reaching a point where our monthly expenses would exceed our Mark Pallans income; and something had to be done. As our volunteer Finance Committee is comprised of some real experts. we gave them the job of showing us what we should do for the future. Through incredible effort, they created a budget which looks five years into the future and justifies every penny we need for an increase. If you think back to 2004 or 2005 and try to remember how much bread and milk cost; or how much your yard guy charged for mowing and tree trimming; or how much a movie cost; and compare these to today's pricing, you can see why we need an increase in our monthly assessments. Our “business” employs a fairly large staff, all of whom are necessary and do their jobs exceedingly well. That costs money for salaries and benefits, such as insurance.The cost of insurance has skyrocketed in the past few years.

We do lots of mailings, various notifications to homeowners as well as general mail. Post Office costs have increased about 60% since 2004, and today, it increases almost annually. Now, I will drop the other shoe. As you may know, I am also a member of the Aliante Master Association Board of Directors. Last year, the Master Association tried to increase its monthly assessment without providing adequate information to many of the Board members. A majority of the Board voted not to accept the proposed budget; so, the existing 2017-2018 budget carried over to this year, 2018-2019. Along with the lack of approval, we directed the Finance Committee of the Master Association to start the budget process earlier and provide enough information to justify any planned increases. They did that and targeted a balanced budget for 20192020. The results of their work provided the Board with a proposed balanced budget that would not reduce or eliminate any services or activities, but it did result in a fifteen percent increase of the Master Assessment to $44.85 a month. Based on this amount and cost savings in other expenses, this will probably last two years. In the interim, the Finance Committee will be looking into a five-year plan. One of the significant issues affecting the Master Association is a series of lawsuits instigated a few years ago that have caused the Association to put aside almost a million dollars as a contingency if the lawsuits are successful. It is hoped that they will fail or at least can be settled for lesser amounts. And now for more pleasant news. Are you familiar with the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument which lies located directly north of Sun City Aliante? You should be because it was started by our own Jill DeStefano and other members of the “Protectors of Tule Springs” from Sun City and Clark County who knew that the federal land was ripe for commercial development. They stopped it dead when President Obama signed into law the act that turned these thousands of acres into a National Monument and prevented any development between Sun City and the Sheep Range Mountains to our north. This led to the creation of a 16-foot tall “Monumental Mammoth” sculpture, which was inspired by Tahoe Mack as a Girl Scout project. The mammoth was constructed of junk materials removed from the desert by Protectors of Tule Springs. The sculpture was recently completed and displayed at “Burning Man.” A mounting pedestal will be created and donors can have their names inscribed on it for posterity to see. For more information, go online to “Protectors of Tule Springs” (POTs) and “Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument” website. Once the weather cools, POTS members will, once again, host hikes to see the fossils in our backyard. POTs holds its quarterly meeting here in the Vista Room. Everyone is welcome to join POTs. Finally, on a personal note, I am looking for skiers. I am 76, and I ski all winter. But I do it alone because I can't find any of my neighbors or friends who have the inclination to try it. I won't go into how exhilarating or healthy skiing is. I will tell you that, statistically, seniors are 11 times less likely to get injured skiing than playing senior basketball. There are ski patrolmen up there who are older than me. Come on up to Lee Canyon, even if you just want to sit on the sundeck with a drink or snacks and watch the skiers and snowboarders go by. COMMUNITY MGR FROM YOUR COMMUNITY MANAGER What's Really Happening Behind the Scenes? Dear Residents, Have you ever thought about all the moving parts that work together to make your Association run smoothly? Have you ever wondered what your Management Team does beyond the day-to-day management of operations and maintenance of the Community Center and the common areas in order to keep everything working and in tiptop condition for you to enjoy? In addition to our regular tasks, t h e M a n a g e m e n t Te a m i s responsible for following the vision and direction of the Board of Directors in many diverse projects that enhance the lifestyle and property values of Sun City Aliante residents. A lot of these projects are in the works in different phases or stages of development and some are under consideration. Some of them have come out of resident recommendations, others were initiated by one of the committees and others by Board members or management. Here's a list of projects that are going on right now. •

Expansion & Enclosure - Our largest task in progress is the Expansion and Enclosure of the Community Center. As a result of this project, we will add approximately 3,500 square feet and remodel approximately 2,200 square feet in the center with an attractive porte-cochere that will provide cover and protection from the elements for anyone standing and waiting outside and serve as the main entrance to the building for all activities. Interior Layout – The new area inside will be a spacious area for viewing, gathering or enjoying entertainment, a larger billiard area and huge expansive windows to afford you the opportunity to view the beautiful golf course and Spring Mountains. Furniture – Several different seating arrangements in the new area will be provided to sit and enjoy the milliondollar view, gather to watch sporting events or movies on a large screen TV or wait before departing for a show. Another area will accommodate five billiard tables and other games. New lighting fixtures will be added in various locations to provide more ambiance.

Exterior Landscaping – The Expansion & Enclosure Project will include new landscaping and lighting of the exterior of the Community Center.

Broadwing & Widewing Landscaping - We will also redo the look of the two main entrances to the Sun City Aliante community on Broadwing and Widewing with new landscaping and lighting.

NEVADA DAY HOLIDAY Nevada Day Holiday, October 25 The SCAL Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, October 25 in celebration of Nevada Day. The Sun City Aliante Community Center will be open regular hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Replacement Server – The Board had three companies to present options for an on-site and cloud-based server. After discussion and comparing prices, it was determined that an onsite server would be the best decision for the Association. The Board has agreed to accept the proposal from ANAX as their choice for a quality, on-site server.

•

Projects Under Study - The Board is also looking at two other projects to decide whether they would be feasible for the community. They include the option for a saltwater pool and the possibility of placing solar power in the parking lot and on the roof of the Community Center. I will provide updates on these projects at a later date.

BOARD MEETING Sun City Aliante Board of Directors Meeting Summary Please read below for a quick update on highlights from the September 11 Board of Directors monthly meeting: 1. Replacement Server - After reviewing options from three

different server companies, the Board decided to accept the ANAX proposal for a server with the new WatchGuard firewall. The cost is not to exceed $21,268 plus shipping and handling. 2 . Billiard Tables - After reviewing options from three different

billiard companies, the Board approved a proposal from Shay's Billiard Supply and Service for new pool tables and other games not to exceed $42,078 on the condition they would need to finalize options for lighting and other accessories. 3. October Board Meeting - The Board decided to reschedule the

October 9 Board meeting to Monday, October 7. 4. Membership Card Machine Maintenance - The Board

approved renewing the annual service maintenance agreement for $1,290 with ECR Sales & Services. This equipment is used by our Customer Service Coordinator to make membership cards

LIFESTYLE NEWS Dear Residents, In the “spirit” of Halloween in an active 55+ Community, the Lifestyle department has planned a “glowing” October calendar… Have a “howling” good time river rafting the Black Canyon and taking in the beauty of the southwest, on 10/3. No cobwebs or spiders reported on these adventures. There are no “tricks” to this amazing line up of entertainment, just “treats” such as: Yanni on 10/6, Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel on 10/10 and Jackie Evancho on 10/13! If you have been “eyeballing” skulls and skeletons, don't be afraid to attend the Vegas Golden Knights hockey game on 10/17 to see how their broomsticks (hockey sticks), “blood curdling screams,” and “superstitious game plays” contribute to a winning season. Be “enchanted” at the New Resident Welcome on 10/19 and visit the Sun City Aliante parking lot and fall under the spell of: free shredding, shopping the Skechers Mobile, to your good health shot clinic (torture chamber), and the NLV Police Department sharing important information to keep you safe. Mama's Wranglers might add “Bat wings” and “Eye of a newt” to their BBQ and dinner show on 10/24. After that event, put on your best football “costume” and join us at the 10/26 UNLV football game to see the Runnin' Rebels turn San Diego State into “zombies.” Enjoy the colorful changing of the leaves while dining at the Mt. Charleston Lodge on 10/29 and savor a delicious lunch prepared by a fantastic chef. Don't be afraid of “ghosts” in a dark Vista Room because we will be showing two box office movie hits, All is True on 10/4 and Rocketman on 10/16. COMMUNITY STANDARDS Hello Sun City Aliante residents! Welcome back to many of you who are returning from your summer adventures. A couple of reminders for October: Aliante Master is organizing the community wide garage sale on October 12/13 from 7 am to 3 pm. Consider participating in this event, as it is prohibited to have individual garage sales, moving sales, rummage sales or estate sales in or from any home. Thank you for continuously being patient during the construction project in the community center. Those who are adhering to the rules and regulations are greatly appreciated. The Sun City Aliante Community Association, Inc. Rules and Regulations are established by the Board of Directors under the authority described in the Governing Documents. The Rules are designed to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of owners and residents in the Community. In addition, the rules were established, among other things, to maintain the common area facilities for the safety, convenience and enjoyment of the residents, guests and visitors. While residents are entitled to enjoy these facilities, it is important to respect the rights of others when sharing in the use of the common areas and facilities. Courtesy and common sense must prevail if the Association facilities are to be properly used. Sun City Aliante is very special in that it is a private, age-restricted community catering to seniors over age 55. The policy of this community is to ensure common area facilities are primarily for the use and enjoyment of residents. Guests or visitors are accommodated only when it does not infringe upon the convenience or right of enjoyment of other residents. While every effort is made to provide comfortable use of the Association facilities by all residents, guests and visitors, they will not be identical to those available in public accommodations. It's great that residents can welcome family and friends to our community and show-off the many amenities we offer; however, residents must remember they are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Residents and their guests shall obey all safety rules and shall not conduct activities or compromise the health and safety of others by their actions. We have a beautiful community with amazing people. The only way we can continue to have a flourishing environment is when people communicate respectfully and adhere to rules in place. It's never going to be perfect – management is not perfect, but we certainly do our best to accommodate, be consistent and be fair. Architectural Review Committee (ARC) – Please don't use the old ARC application when submitting an application. You may download the new Home Improvement Application from the Sun City Aliante website at www.suncityaliante.org or request for a copy at the Customer Service office. Reminder: Trash pick-up is every Tuesday and bulk pick up dates this month are October 8 and October 22. Please don't place garbage cans at the curb before 6 p.m. on Mondays, and remove them no later than 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Fun Fact: A leech has 32 brains. EXPANSION UPDATE Update on Expansion & Enclosure Project "Pardon Our Dust” The construction project continues as the steel bases and temporary supports were completed. In addition, the structural steel should be completed, and all the walls should be framed by the end of the month. The Hours of Operation have changed at the Community Center to the following: MondaySaturday - 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday – 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents are requested to vacate the building 15 minutes prior to closing time; so, the building can be cleaned and secured. The Front Entrance to the SCAL Community Center is closed. You cannot access the Community Center through this entrance until the project is completed. Back Entrance Closed – Yo u c a n n o t a c c e s s t h e Community Center via the pathway behind the building at the intersection of Lintwhite and Lanneret. Signage is now located on the Community Center building to identify all three entrances and which activities you can access at these entrances.

Compliance and Customer Service Department –Carol, the Customer Service Coordinator, is located in her original office. Nelenie, the Assistant Manager/ Compliance Director, is now located in a new office right next to Carol. Parking – We ask you to continue to refrain from parking in the Aliante Golf Club parking lot, as this area is reserved for golfers. Reminder: During the construction period, several key areas will be affected: The Billiard Room and Activity Room are not available for use as they will be expanded as part of the construction project. The Lobby area of the Vista Room building is not available for use during the construction period. The Library and Computers are not available for use as they will be relocated. The Conference Room is available for normal use for scheduled meetings. The Veteran's Memorial has been relocated. The bike rack has been relocated to the Bocce Ball court area. Throughout the project, we will provide frequent updates in the eBlast, The Breeze magazine and on the new website (suncityaliante.org), including where we are, what's affected, what's next and new timelines as they develop. You can now obtain comprehensive information on the new website. On the bottom of the home page of the site, there is a dedicated section called “Caution, Work in Progress” that contains an animated video showing the design concept and the current timeline. We appreciate your patience throughout the duration of this construction project. We are confident you will be excited about the changes we are making for a larger and more attractive Community Center.

The Front Desk has two locations (just outside the Social Hall and at the entrance to the Swimming Pool) for the duration of the construction project. Lifestyle Associates are relocated to these areas to assist you. Main Entrance - Swimming Pool/Sauna/Spa & Fitness Area/Fitness Studio – To access these areas, you must enter through the gate at end of the building. Then you proceed through the double doors to the building. This is the only access for anyone who needs the assistance of a wheelchair or a walker. We have Lifestyle Associates stationed at this entrance to assist you with scanning your membership cards for seminars, the pool area and the fitness area/classes and purchasing tickets for entertainment events. Social Hall & Craft Rooms – To access the Social Hall/Craft Rooms, enter the double doors to the right of the Social Hall (opposite the tennis courts). Please remember you will only enter this door if you attend an activity in the Social Hall or the Craft Rooms. Lifestyle Associates are stationed at this entrance to assist you with scanning your membership cards for seminars, events and club activities and purchasing tickets for entertainment events. Effective through the duration of the construction, The Social Hall entrance door is open Monday - Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. The door will be locked after 6 p.m. (Monday-Saturday) and 2 p.m. (Sunday) unless an event is scheduled in the room.

October 17 at 10 a.m. in the Sun City Aliante Community Center The North Las Vegas Police Department Detectives will give a presentation on home safety and “scams” that are targeting seniors. October 17 at 4 p.m. in the Sun City Community Center – We will hold the next monthly meeting of the Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and Volunteers. We would especially like to meet with those who attended the September recruitment event for Block Captains. If you are interested in joining our group and have questions, please attend this meeting. Mark your calendar for our community-wide Safety Expo. It is being planned for March 2020 – details to come. This has been a successful event over the years. Vendors and local safety agencies will have product displays and information at the community center. It is a great opportunity to get ideas on how to keep your home safe and secure.

The holiday shopping period is starting, and we want to pass on a few tips for keeping your home and yourself from becoming a criminal's opportunity target: •

When ordering packages to be delivered, be sure to be home when they are delivered or ask a neighbor to hold them for you.

When you leave the house make sure the garage door is shut before you leave the driveway.

•

Make sure the door from your garage into your home is kept locked. Criminals often check outside doors and inner garage doors to get quick entry into a home. Finding an unlocked door is their “Bingo” moment.

•

If you leave your car outside in the driveway or on the street, take everything out of it – the garage door opener, valuables in the glove compartment and packages. Lock and alarm your car. When you return from shopping and pull your car into the garage, shut the garage door before unloading. If you have company visiting, apply these tips to their cars, too.

•

Keep your bushes trimmed in your front and side yards. Burglars use those bushes between houses as great places to hide and observe what is inside the home and when you come and go. Keep outside lights on from dusk to dawn.

NEW FITNESS INSTRUCTOR DAVID WILSON BRINGS NEW PROGRAMS TO SUN CITY ALIANTE We a r e p r o u d t o welcome our newest Fitness Instructor David Wilson. He hails from Grand Island, Nebraska. An avid sports enthusiast, he played college basketball and w o r k e d f o r a professional basketball instructional team, training and developing coaches and athletes, including two NBA players. David graduated from Doane University with a bachelor's degree in Fitness Management. He has wide-ranging experience in personal training and golf fitness and has taught at one of the most prestigious County Clubs in Bakersfield, Calif. His skills include working extensively with golf clients over age 50, improving their swing and club length distances and sustaining energy throughout their golf rounds. . At Sun City Aliante, David will offer flexibility and mobility classes as well as meditative classes for relaxation. He will also offer training sessions focusing on individuals and their personal goals, including strength, golf, and basketball training, personal training, group training, and mental and meditative training. So, be forewarned; changes are coming. As I'm currently updating my annual certifications with each individual Medicare licensed company, I can tell you there are some big changes for 2020. With new acquisitions in the prescription drug world, plan names and benefit changes will be happening.

AEP (Annual Enrollment Period) - Yes, it's back here again, another year has passed! There are specific times when you can sign up for Medicare and prescription drug plans and make changes to coverage you already have. You don't have to sign up every year; however, each year, you'll have a chance to review your Medicare coverage. If you like your plan, why would you want to change? The biggest reason to save money or get more access to doctors. By late September, you should receive your annual notification of change from your existing insurance company. If you have an Advantage plan or a stand-alone prescription drug plan (which is 97% of all Medicare eligible people), this is very important. In most cases, your existing plan will change from 2019 to 2020. Will it matter to you? You won't know unless you review your current needs and review the changes.

CHARTERED CLUBS ALIANTE'S CLASSY CHEFS The Classy Chefs enjoyed a respite from the heat when they served Brunch at their meeting on September 3. They enjoyed Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Strata by Amy Redd, German Apple Pancakes and Chocolate Banana Cake by Phyllis Minster and Mixed Fruit Bowl by Diane Lazarus. Their own personal chef, Michael Gabriel, showed them how to make scones. They made two specialties (blueberry and cranberry). Everyone agreed, “It was all Yummy!” The menu for their October 1st meeting includes pork riblets with rice by Tina Tendy, green salad by Connie Wickland, kishka and asparagus by Phyllis Minster and flan by Florina Arcenas. BASKETBALL CLUB MONTHLY CONTEST WINNER The August “Buck in The Bucket” monthly contest winner was “Blackball” Kevin Dominy. Kevin braved the 100 plus degree weather along with Fred “Spot” Campos, “Hawkeye” Bob Ingertson, “Mo” Mike O'Meara and Larry from Omaha, to participate in a hard-fought battle to win. It took extreme accuracy with some of his howitzer shots to finalize the contest by winning the shootout with “Spot” and “Mo.” Side note: “Spot” set a club record by making 4 out of 5 in the 3-point segment. “Blackball” was born in Jericho, NY and lived most of his life in the state of New York. Kevin enjoys not working as the best attribute of retirement. He also likes being around the basketball club members and participating in the fun competition. Some of Kevin's favorites are: 1. THE FORGET-ME-KNOTS The Forget-Me-Knot members teamed up for a very productive year. They provided three large black bags of blankets with hats and miscellaneous baby clothing to the military's “Boots and Booty” and other military baby shower programs. They also provided two bags of blankets, bibs, and baby clothing to the Clark County Foster Children Program. Due to the construction, they will not have their annual “Giving Tree.” Instead, they will hold Seniors with Warm Hearts “12 Days of Giving.” You will be able to drop off your donations at a designated location on any one of their “12 Days of Giving,” which will be mentioned in future eBlasts and Breeze articles. Your donations of gift cards/checks will help the following groups. • Street Teens (supports and assists homeless and at-risk teens) • SAFE House (a domestic violence victim's shelter) • Project 150 (supports and assists homeless and at-risk teens) • Serving Our Kids Foundation (supplies weekend food bags for needy elementary school children) Here's how you can help: 1 You can purchase a gift card from Walmart, Target or Amazon, McDonalds, Subway, etc. and these will be distributed to Project 150, Street Teens and SAFE House. VETERANS AUXILIARY Hello from the Veterans Auxiliary. Several members attended the Military Appreciation Day at Craig Ranch Park on September 14. During October, the Veterans Auxiliary is collecting towels, washcloths, and socks for Veterans Village. You can leave your donations at the Front Desk near the pool area in the Community Center. The Veterans Club will host their annual Spaghetti Dinner on November 2 from 4 -6 p.m. Please get your tickets early. The Veteran's Auxiliary will raffle off a television set. Selling prices for tickets are: one for $2; three for $5; seven for $10 and 15 for $20. They will also have an “Opportunity Table” where you can purchase slightly used items.

SUN CITY ALIANTE VETERANS CLUB October is here and the weather is cooling. We hope you were able to attend the Military/Veterans/First Responders Appreciation Day on September 14 at Craig Ranch Park. It was quite a successful event due to the hard work of many volunteers, not only on that day, but for the past several months. The planning for next year's event starts in January. The Songsters are having so much fun preparing for their upcoming holiday concert “Season's Greetings!” This concert will offer an exciting variety of timeless classics and new holiday music.
