Complex human problems can be solved by the usage of biomimetics which uses models, systems and different elements of nature. It is a biologically inspired engineering at a macro and nano level. It is rightly used to optimize products in engineering and other industries. Our cover story includes an interesting account of different verticals of biomimicry and the leaders in those specific segments. We recently learnt that Biomimicry is such an interesting subject which has not been publicized the way it should be. I hope our cover story strikes some interest in you. Other regular features includes ‘Larger than life’ feature which talks about World’s most expensive photographs. It talks about the people and their lavish spending on things that might mean anything to a common man. All this and more.. Have a Happy Easter

Cell phones that devilishly wait for warranty to be up before going on self-destruction mode now have a rival, Boeing’s Black Ultra-Secure Smartphone. The Chicago-based Boeing Company, primarily an Aerospace and Defense contractor known for making jetliners and fighter jets, will now make room for expansion of its existing ‘Communication Division’. The aerospace manufacturer already provides secure communication to US government authorities - including the president. Boeing has filed plans with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for developing an ultra-secure smartphone christened Boeing Black. The smartphone has the ability to self-destruct in less than 30 seconds if an embedded technology detects that the phone is being tampered with. Sadly, average customers stand no chance to turn their backs on the prying eyes of NSA since it won’t be made available to them for mainstream use. Boeing Black goes past ordinary mobile security is in physical enhancements to the hardware itself. The company explained in the documents sent to the FCC that there are no serviceable parts on Boeings Black phone and any attempt at servicing, adjusting or replacing parts might decimate the entire product. 010

Pizza Hut is collaborating with Chaotic Moons Studio to work on a device that will change the face of food industry forever. Much the same as playing with a tablet or smartphone, the interactive tabletoplets customers build their own pizza by checking what garnishes they might fancy, and pay for it using a smartphone. The interactive tabletop hasn’t been named yet but pizza hut warmheartedly tags it as ‘the concept car of pizza ordering’. This isn’t Pizza Hut’s first endeavor at integrating food and technology. In 2012, Pizza Hut started letting Xbox 360 users order pizza through their consoles, just so game-lovers don’t have to take the pain of getting off their couches until it’s time to answer the door. Clearly the pizza chain wants to stay ahead of the game by winning hearts of as many communities (game lovers, technology lovers and now introverts who hate human interaction while ordering food…) as it can. Pushing out the innovation on a more extensive scale and might be a little troublesome if taken from a business point of view such as taking care of expenses, logistics and lastly cleanliness.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday has finalized the new Tier 3 vehicle emission standards for cars and gasoline that the agency claims will significantly reduce harmful pollution, improve public health and prevent thousands of premature deaths and illnesses and create a cleaner environment, all by reducing the amount of sulfur that’s released into the air. Current regulations already allow sulfur in gasoline in quantities up to 30 parts per million (ppm) but the new regulations would compel oil companies to further reduce the chemical’s presence in oil and gas products to 10 parts per million. Sulfur is a normal part of gasoline’s chemical makeup. When vehicles burn gasoline, they emit sulfur, along with a host of other pollutants linked to lung disease, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, aggravated heart disease and premature births and deaths and engines need to be designed to burn off the element. This raises the cost of automobiles due to which there is a loss of fuel efficiency. The exhaust systems impairs faster with sulfur than they would under the new regulations. 012

In an interesting business move, social-networking giant Facebook is reportedly going to acquire Titan Aerospace, the maker of a solar-powered high-altitude drone that can stay in the air for five years at a time. With these drones Facebook plans to offer an online connection to the five billion people who don’t have access to internet or have very limited (usually expensive) options. Facebook’s acquisition would reportedly further the interests of Internet.org, a coalition of mobile technology companies that is working towards delivering Internet access to billions or so people around the world without it. Though nothing is confirmed as of now, the acquisition is valued at $60 million. These drones are atmospheric satellites that can carry on most of the operations of an orbital satellite, but are cheaper and more adaptable. Titan Aerospace makes near-orbital drones that are solar-powered and will charge themselves up in day time in order to function at night. Apparently they will be durable enough to operate for five years at an altitude of 20km above sea level, without need for re-landing. Besides, these drones could potentially have many uses like weather monitoring, disaster recovery, Earth imaging and communications.

According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) at the Department of Energy; wind power generated 4.13% of all the electricity in America and is the fifth largest electricity source in the country. It accounts for nearly 30 % of all new generating capacity for the last five years, which is sufficient to power the equivalent of 15.5 million homes in America, equivalent of all the residential households in Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, and Ohio combined. The top states who installed wind capacity all set records last year for the amount of electricity they generated. States like Texas, Iowa, California, and Oklahoma each produced enough electricity to provide power more than a million homes in America. The geographic diversity and numerous installations of wind turbines is a reflection of the United States’ strong wind resource. In a study in 2010, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory reported over 10 million MW of wind resource in the US, that’s sufficient to power the equivalent of the nation’s total electricity needs almost 10 times over. 014

A while ago word surfaced that the long-awaited Microsoft’s Office for iPad would be arriving in the first half of this year but a new report on Monday claims the Office for iPad may hit the App Store as soon as Mar. 27, it will be introduced during CEO Satya Nadella’s press event next week. Microsoft Office for the iPad has been in development for quite some time but the company has dawdled on their release due to internal divisions. While Office for the iPad is seen as a big boost for Microsoft, some feel that the company has taken too long to introduce a version for the iPad, allowing rivals to get a foothold. Microsoft first unveiled an iOS version of Office for the iPhone in June last year. Most believe that the iPad variant of Office, codenamed Miramar will be similar to the iPhone version and it is speculated that one might require a subscription to Office 365 for editing and creating documents in Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote. It is still unclear how Microsoft plans on charging for the suite.

leadership in the corporate context is one of the hottest topics in the world, and everyone wants to learn how to become a billionaire and be the best possible boss. However, leadership is not just limited to the work frontier, it extends to all of society. In fact, leadership began as a societal phenomenon much before it evolved into a professional one. In fact, many of the present-day leadership qualities that corporate and professional leaders aspire to are based on the social and political leaders of the yesteryears. Human beings are social animals and living together in large groups naturally meant that people needed to adopt different roles and accomplish different groups. In order to give structure to society and help society grow and develop, people were naturally divided into leaders and followers. The leaders paved the way and moved from one frontier to another, directing the others, while the followers completed the tasks assigned to them and helped bring the changes about. Understanding the role and impact of good leadership in society makes for an interesting study. While it’s easy to break down the effects of leadership in the work environment into small, easily identifiable structures, analyzing how positive leadership affects society is somewhat complex. Society is a multiphenomena structure, with a myriad of social forces, elements and factors at play all the time. Society is not limited to a few defined goals, and hence, leadership in society is a vast, and often intangible, phenomenon. Industry Leaders Magazine | March 2014

Leadership is instrumental to achieving social change. All through history, whether it was for abolishing social norms, overcoming social evils or modernizing history, social change has been impossible without the right kind of leadership. When it comes to mobilizing the masses, igniting passion in people towards a common goal and motivating people to act towards the said common goal, it isn’t possible to unite the people and inspire action without leadership. One person has to spear the movement, and he may not professionally be a leader, and does not have to be a political leader, but he should have the charisma to inspire people and motivate them. A great example from recent times would be that of Anna Hazare, and Indian citizen who inflamed thousands of Indians against the injustices of the Indian political system and the rampant corruption in society and politics and launched one of the biggest civil movements Asia has seen in a long time. In terms of social change, the leader is the face of the movement as well as the backbone of it, while the people form the heart and soul. Industry Leaders Magazine | March 2014

It is interesting to note that one person or a small group of people has the power to influence how millions feel. A society that is bereft of competent leaders is invariably thrown into dissatisfaction at a small scale and turmoil and anarchy at a larger scale. A leader who is good at what he does, is able to keep people motivated and inspired, works for the greater good of society and not just his own personal gains, and is able to respect his people will be successful in creating a positive and happy society. When people have faith in their leader and feel that they are taken care of, be it economically or socially or politically, they are in a better frame of mind on the whole. Good leadership creates a happy society, and a happy society can build a strong nation! Industry Leaders Magazine | March 2014

It is quite remarkable that even when leadership is effective in the social, not corporate, context, it has an impact on people’s professional lives. When a society is led by a powerful, positive and forward-thinking leader, one of the main areas of focus is people’s professional development. It goes without saying the professional progress is required for economic growth and no society can do well without financial stability. Hence, good leaders are those that take all factors into consideration, even if their role is ostensibly limited to one niche. A positive leader will always be mindful of the fact that people need to be achieving something in their professional capacities in order to lead the society forward, and hence the leader will emphasize the importance of education, picking the right career, working hard and focusing on performance. Most people fail to appreciate how a common leader is often the face of the society and a symbol for it. When people elect a leader they are proud of, or they are placed under the care of a leader who does a good job, there is a sense of pride and identification with the individual that also ties the society together. An effective leader is one that people of the society are happy to call their own, and in turn, the leader ends up bringing the society together and giving them a common, positive identity that the people are all happy to have. Societies are often remembered by their remarkable leaders and not the people, and it is a unique social phenomenon that one man or woman can not only shape the future of several people but can also make them feel closer to one another and strengthen their bonds with each other and with a common identity by virtue of being an effective leader. One of the most compelling and evolved peculiarities of nature is sustainability. Nature is innocuous. It banks on diversity, fits form to function and rewards cooperation. It is zero-waste, zero-energy. It curbs excesses from within. Mocking as it, nature’s own children are struggling to incorporate lessons from nature’s 3.8 billion years of innovation. Human curiosity and desire to learn from nature is engulfed by a devouring flame that is materialistically extracting the best of nature for shallow voracious purposes. To throw more on the pile, environmental issues are politicized and capitalized by superficial bodies.

Topping the spot of most expensive photograph list Rhein II by Andreas Gursky has been talked about ever since it’s Auction at Christie’s New York. A 6x11 foot gigantic physical print, the photograph sold for a groundbreaking $4.3 Million, not even six months after the last photography record was set for Cindy Sherman’s Untitled #96 in May for $3.8 Million at the same venue. So, while we have the alternative of claiming the horrors of capitalism, we’ve decided why not peek into the subject a little more to dig out what makes it so expensive? Why not walk on the fragile balance between our power of imagination and Andreas Gursky’s perspective and savor the dawn coming age where a handful of photographers are rebranding themselves as artists.

The aesthetically soothing and calm image is a breathtaking 6x11 print, captured in 1999 portraying the stretch of river Rhine outside Düsseldorf. The Rhein is a major river in Germany, frequently used by travelers all day long. It is also one of the busiest shipping routes of the world. A typical capture of the river would comprise of numerous boats, factories in the background, castles and vineyards on hilly terrains. Gursky’s body of work depicts the engulfing business prospect of modern life. The Rhein II is a quite a contrast in comparison to those others. In Andreas Gursky’s Rhein II photograph, the location and angle of the photo have been chosen in such a manner that the land is at the same height as the river, eliminating industrial backgrounds and other man-made artifacts. The photograph at Christie’s Auction was described as a ‘dramatic and profound reflection on human existence and our relationship to nature on the cusp of the 21st century’. Rhein II is minimalism at its supreme.

Multiple images were captured by the artist at the exact time of the day, scanning large format negatives. The images where then subjected to compositing and editing in Photoshop, something that was pretty early by digital editing standards. One of the most intriguing parts is that, even in current digital age, most people find trouble adding the digital composite of such a higher resolution with tools such as Photoshop. To produce a print as large as 6x11 foot requires an tremendous amount of technical efforts, without showing loss of resolution. Another factor making it expensive is its rarity. Out of the six editions produced, three of those are in public museums (MoMa, Tate, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich). One is in a private museum (Glenstone, Potomac) and of the two left in private collection, one was sold at the overwhelming price, marking its rarity. (Image 2) The second image shows the degree to which elements have been eliminated in order to stimulate a soothing and idyllic view of a river. The photograph stands as a transcendent connection between nature, modern life and humans. The constriction balancing it makes it remarkable. 052

Gursky shot to fame in 1980’s, a time when photographs didn’t share as much spaces in galleries as paintings did, pioneering photo-manipulation techniques. To accept photography as an art was then a brave and an alien concept. His work constantly adapted technical aspects depicting the high-art environment, collective existence and unitary behavior of large crowds, forcing its way into people’s power of imagination. Some deem the rich scale, attention to color and form of his photography as an intended challenge to painting’s status as the crowned king of art form. The artist has always been eminent, breaking new grounds in the way film and digital processes have been used in making photographs. The presence of most of his works in full-size prints is something which cannot be experienced from a computer or a mobile screen. They indent to overwhelm us within their large confided expanses. Most of his images require extraordinary technical accomplishments. They take months and month to set up in advance as well as a lot of digital altering. 054

A prime example of which, is Gursky’s New York Stock Exchange in 1991, which shows his marvelous attention to details and technical ability, condensing time and spatial events. Another one of his artwork 99Cents, again a 6x11 ft print, created to illustrate the metaphor of modern consumerism and aggressive capitalism. Ironically, the photograph was sold in 2007 for 2.2 million. It currently stands as world’s fourth most expensive photograph. Valuation of art has always been higher than that of photographs. Gursky’s photomanipulation and wide metaphors makes him much more of an artist than a photographer. The Rhein II passed the previous record of Cindy Sherman’s Untitled #96 from 1981, which was sold for $3.89 Million. The photograph was sold at the auction by an anonymous owner. Since, visual artists do not get royalties like some performing artists do; it can be perceived that Gursky did not receive the $4.3 million.

Sherman’s Untitled #96, which previously held the record, is a photo of the artist herself dressed as an innocent retro teenage girl, with signs of mushrooming sexuality such as flushed cheeks, pink lipstick, a provocatively upturned hem of skirt and painted crimson nails looking distracted by dreams of unrequited love. Cindy Sherman was a pioneer in depicting identity crisis and feminism in the 80’s. But then, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. What we distinguish in the artwork might not be the same in someone else’s vision. Investment in artwork is explorative. Artists whose work is well-represented in renowned museums tend to acclaim positive criticism and increasing their value over time, mostly due to their status as their masterpieces often stifle the opinion of curatives. While photography has always be standardized as a lower art form, due to its easier accessibility in to producing photographs by anybody holding a camera. Some photographers have been called artists, due to their extraordinary vision and technical mastery that sets from above the rest. 058

Incorporated in July 16, 1994, the company’s original name was ‘Cadabra’, however a year later in 1995; it premiered with a completely different name, the Amazon. com. Initially a three-person startup, Amazon was daringly dubbed as Earth’s biggest bookstore. The online bookstore, sold to all 50 states and over 45 countries. Just a few days after its launch, one of the founders of Yahoo proposed to feature the site on its ‘What’s Cool’ page – remember this was the decade when internet businesses were either backed by founding fathers of other businesses or scissored. The result was a tremendous soar in orders - from a sheer dozen books per day to over $12,000 worth of orders in a week! Call it serendipity?

For a business owner who believed in upgrading the website and stocks once business came in, it was a little hard to keep up with the growing number of orders. A few months after its launch, Jeff Bezos team had sold a mere half-million dollars worth of books, but was seen posting growth rates that gauged Wall Street’s eyeballs. In spite of no advertising, word of mouth kept spreading - talk about influence and more credibility! Its sales had hit $15.7 million in 1996 and $147 million in 1997, all thanks to the marvelous Amazon teamwork, staying up until 1 to 2 in the night packing orders, answering customer queries. The official hiring strategy of Amazon was a sanguine one; it meant that every time you hire someone, that person has to be smarter than you. Administrative assistants were seen tracking every Rhodes Scholar to offer them jobs - Jeff Bezos was that fascinated by SAT’s. By the end of 90’s it had 500 representatives answering emails, helping customers find books on a wide selection of topics. The early employees were seen boiling under the pressure of targets and competition - a scene much common in dot com start ups - working an extra 10 hours beyond their shift, bringing the best of productivity and firm performance.

..an insight in to infectious, Jeff Bezos leadership-style. On May 15, 1997 Amazon.com went public with an initial offering IPO price of $16.00 to $18.00 per share, and closing on the first day of trading $54 million richer. In the dot com era most public companies were obsessed with quenching shortterm shareholder demands. This meant, continually maximizing profitability and stock performance for the earnings call rather than focusing on long-term investments and value establishment. Jeff Bezos did the exact opposite – he started working against a much longer time-line, rather than sniffing around for speedy cash-out like other dot com entrepreneurs. Trade analysts called it a gateway to going bankrupt, yet Amazon focused on its long-term vision no matter how much the stock were beaten. Within a year of the dot com bubble burst, as other doc com startups were seen dispersing, Amazon.com announced its first profitable quarter.

Industry Leaders Magazine | March 2014
Before the start of millennium, Amazon.com had successful launched its websites in Europe and United Kingdom. In 2000, Amazon featured it logotype with an arrow curving from A to Z, symbolizing comprehensive A to Z products from 3rd party seller merchandize and a smile on customer’s face. Amazon was seen moving into music CDs, videos, toys, electronics and much more vast selection than that offered at any other superstore or mall. Amazon’s customer service has been recognized by Jeff Bezos as the cornerstone of Amazon.com. The founder would himself answer emails at times. Once, an elderly lady sent an email saying that as much as she enjoyed ordering books from the site, it was a little difficult for her to tear in to the difficult to open packaging and had to wait for her nephew to come over and open it for her. Next thing, Jeff Bezos had the entire packaging redesigned to make it easier to open.

In 2002, the firm in partnership with hundreds of retailers added clothing sales to its product line-up. It was around the same time that Amazon had launched its online sporting goods store under an umbrella of 3,000 brand names. By now thousands of people were enjoying the wish list feature, adding products, knocking their way into customer’s desires. It has introduced the much debated customer reviews, another community building feature, being a leading source of product reviews tempting more customers to spend hours and hours reading reviews and ordering the product once it fits their needs. No doubt, the online store had now turned into America’s largest online retailer with annual sales of over $10.7 billion, something that took Wal-Mart 20 years to achieve.

In 2007, Amazon released Kindle e-reader; the Earth’s Largest Bookstore had revolutionized the future of reading books, newspaper and magazine forever. The dawn of e-reading increased the overall sales of books, Amazon’s sales were now increased by 38%, and profits were doubled. Jeff Bezos’s vision that eBooks would soon dominate the world of e-reading came true. With more and more e-reading devices, it e-books became the company’s bestselling format in a year. Kindle had secured it place in the hearts of 95% American readers. When Apple introduced its iPad tablet, designed to be used as an electronic reading device, Jeff Bezos notoriously responded by cutting Kindle’s prices and adding many more features to it. In 2011, Amazon introduced library lending service to Kindle readers providing access to over 10,000 titles, letting users download one books for free every month. Currently, Amazon proprietors a myriad of subsidiaries, including AmazonLocal, Living Social, AmazonFresh, Amazon Studio, Amazon Web Services and many more. Amazon maintains 80 mammoth warehouses and fulfillment centers located around shipping hubs over the world to shelter its massive volume of products it sells 24*7 all days a year. How does it do it? Amazon warehouses have a flexible and optimized system in order to handle millions of orders. Every product is given a unique barcode when it enters the warehouse, following arbitrary product placement. There is a refined database that tracks and monitors every product that enters/leaves the warehouse, tallying on every single empty shelf.

Customer focused and a logically forward thinker Jeff Bezos has over the last 19 years always taken evolutionary advantage and revolutionized the way we shop. In his constant search for innovating the company, customer satisfaction and its features, Jeff Bezos patented a controversial feature called 1-click ordering, forbidding any other online retailer from using a one-click purchasing option without paying a royalty to Amazon. But then the black crow of controversy has always followed the company flapping and shrieking. Instigated from Jeff Bezos’s commitment to selling books with titles such as The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure, to discontinued hosting of a website associated with WikiLeaks from its web hosting services, it always has. The low-profile founder has got away without scrutinization for his ruthless slashing of cost and mass lay-offs or to staying ahead of the curve by getting numerous patents. It’s the credibility earned from Wall Street’s caviar smeared nods that lets him take the shots predictably. Jeff Bezos demands excellence from those around him, pushing people to rise to his level. An employee, who was the first official shadow of Amazon, followed Jeff Bezos around as his chief of staff attending every meeting. An accomplished executive now, the employee runs Amazon Web Services, giving a glimpse of the decentralized model created by the founder of Amazon. With Jeff Bezos’s visionary insight and capabilities, Amazon has now over 97,000 employees and a market capitalization of $142.6 Billion. In 2013, his net worth was $33 Billion from the 19% stake in Amazon. For an ecommerce store that has changed the way we shop in last 18years, one can only imagine what might be coming in the next 18years!

In recent years, Facebook has relentlessly been in news for making jaw-dropping deals, acquisitions and announcements; while at the same time constantly evolving. Rival companies call it a living nightmare, marketers distinguish it as one of the most recognized brands worldwide, while new technology start-ups look up to Facebook as an excellent example for sending competition into oblivion due to its massive potential and co-evolving business model and fascinating-challenging business moves. This year 19th February turned out to be a mind boggling day for economist, trend-watchers and business analysts when Facebook, painted a frown on its rival companies faces, buying Whatsapp for an astronomical $19 Billion. In one of the biggest technology deals of the past decade, social networking giant Facebook acquired mobile instant-messaging company WhatsApp for a jolting $ 19 billion in cash and stock - 10% of Facebook, dismissing pre-set notions of equity valuation. Mountain View, California, based company; Whatsapp has a worldwide base of 450 million, adding more than 1 million new users a day, where 72% of its users are active every day sharing up to 500 million photos a day, much more than Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus. It is popular amongst international users from countries including Brazil, India, South Africa and Indonesia - where Facebook is trying to broaden its trail. It is a mobile messaging service, which allows users to send free texts, pictures, location, videos and contacts on smartphones without ads. “WhatsApps user base is nearly double that of Twitter, whose current market capitalization tops $30 billion.

Last year, Zuckerberg offered to buy Snapchat for $3 billion but the messaging start-up rebuffed the offer. Facebook has been trying to get into mobile messaging market for some time now to broaden its goal of connecting the world. In tailing its purpose of globally connecting as much of the world’s population as possible the move is expected to help Facebook expand in the fast-growing mobile messaging market. Both the companies Facebook and Whatsapp are in the same business - connecting the world, despite diverse methods of communication.
Jan Koum 088
Industry Leaders Magazine | March 2014
The rationale behind the eye-popping numbers of the deal is that WhatsApp even though a 5 year old start up is now at the forefront of a new breed of mobile messaging apps. In fast-growing developing markets like Africa, India and Southeast Asia, they are becoming more and more popular for Smartphone users to communicate with each other - most of which are regions where Facebook is desperately trying to grow its user base. The messaging app - a very personalized platform is widely used by teenagers, an age group which has suddenly started disassociating itself from Facebook fearing exposure of content to parents recently signed up on the website. Facebook, although a decade old is still a young player compared to technology giants such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Apple. In order to keep its economical eco-system thriving, Facebook needs to fight off competition, much of which arises from rival company’s starry eyed dreams of connecting the world by having maximum user base.

Mark Zuckerberg is allowing WhatsApp Leadership team to remain independent, operating on their own with co-founder and CEO Jan Koum joining Facebook’s Board of Directors; much like Instagram. Buying WhatsApp at $19 Billion equals to $35 per current user, or $346 million deal value per employee keeping in mind its 35 employees. Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook’s CFO David Ebersman remarked that they were inclined to fork over $12 billion in stock nearly 8 percent of all Facebook stock for the company. Facebook is also said to pay $4 billion in cash, which is about a third of the total on its balance sheet. In order to close the deal, Facebook offered an extra $3 billion in restricted stocks unit, a common type of equity compensation to WhatsApp founders and employees. The most intriguing question of the deal is, what kind of revenue sourcing model will Facebook-WhatsApp adopt in the future? With WhatsApp having hardly any business revenue model and charging only 99 cents per annum after allowing its users a free period of up to one year. WhatsApp is currently on the verge of hitting a 1 billion user mark by the start of 2015. With all users paying $1 billion after a competition of one year, it will probably take 19 more years for Facebook to break even, which suggests that Facebook will adopt a revenue generation model feeing on advertisements through data mining.

Mark Zuckerberg sees immense prospects in the latest acquisition, due to his vision to eliminating hindrances in connecting the world together from a common frame of reference – Facebook. Currently majority of the world is using free messaging apps to exchange text message, and other media and is more likely to be a replacement for e-mail due to its shift from desktop to mobile and its instant-messaging nature. Facebook hasn’t just invest in a mobile messaging application, it has invested $19 billion in a possibility that someday it will take over all other mediums of communication taking over the world, using voice, media, text, video and other elements. Not to mention the massive amounts of data and analytics Facebook will gather and make optimum use of to optimize its services, products and revenue generation adding innovative sources. . The Facebook business model, as mentioned before thrives on high volumes of data to deliver to its advertisers. Facebook will need to attract users, not to mention earn WhatsApp users trust in lieu of privacy concerns for letting it flourishes. The acquisition is a much dangerous gamble, looking at the long-term value Facebook anticipates from WhatsApp.
