Atif Wows Crowd, Wraps Up Non-Stop Rehan Concerts By Jawahar Malhotra

AfterThe Sikh National Center once again celebrated One of the hottest young sensations in Hindi pop music came to the Bayou City last Friday, November 22 and made a big splash in front of a sellout crowd at the Arena Theatre, to the delight of screaming and dancing fans. The Arena Theatre is perfect for intimate concerts but it was bursting at its seams with a capacity standing room only crowd and many more waiting outside. Atif Aslam made contact with the audience with many of his hits and wowed them over with his style. He paused for selfies and the crowd roared back for more, so many just stood up and danced along. Atif Aslam sang many of his memorable songs from the past and present and was accompanied by a live band. Born in Wazirabad, Pakistan, Atif Aslam started singing at the behest of his friends. His first album ‘Jal Pari’ was released in 2004, the album was a hit and Atif never looked back. In a span of short ten years, he has become one of the highest paid singers with over 9 million hits and a soaring
popularity amongst South Asians on a global basis. Aslam is one of the best playback singers of the Hindi film industry and also a song writer and actor. Aslam is an enormously popular singer with a worldwide following, especially in Pakistan and India and among the South Asian diaspora. He has sung for a number of memorable songs for both Pakistani and Bollywood films. But this concert almost didn’t take place as a last minute hitch prevented the entertainer and the backup musicians from getting their US travel visas. That’s when Siddiqi sprang into action, calling

local Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a close friend and supporter, who is now on the House Committee for Homeland Security, to intervene. “Thanks to her, these artists were able to make it here today,” explained Siddiqi onstage before the concert. And that’s not all. With the audience and performers watching, Lee handed Siddiqi a Congressional Resolution of Recognition for the contributions that he has made to the local economy through his concerts and radio shows for the past two decades. This concert was the conclusion of the whirlwind 19-concert line-up that Houston’s own Rehan Siddiqi took on as a challenge for which he
deserves accolades. Four PIOs in Canadian PM Trudeau’s Cabinet
Ottawa: For the first time, a Hindu woman lawmaker has been inducted into a Canadian Cabinet as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled his “strong and skilled” team of 37 ministers which also includes three Sikh MPs. Trudeau unveiled his Cabinet with the induction of seven new faces, including Anita Anand, a former law professor at the University of Toronto. The three other Indian-origin MPs, all Sikhs, inducted into the Cabinet are Navdeep Bains (42), Bardish Chagger (39) and Harjit Sajjan (49). The Liberal’s minority government headed by 47-year-old Trudeau was sworn in on Wednesday at the Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Anand, who is in her early 50s represents Oakville in Ontario, is among the two newly-elected ministers. She was elected to the 338-seat House of Commons for the first time in the October federal elections. She takes over the public services and procurement portfolios, which oversees billions of dollars in public spending, including the purchase of military hardware, the Toronto Star reported. She will also assume responsibility for Phoenix, the computerised pay system that has disrupted compensation for thousands of federal civil servants, it said. Sajjan, a former Vancouver police detective and a lieutenantcolonel in the Forces, remains the minister of national defence, the

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported. Bains was named as the minister of innovation, science and industry. He represents Mississauga— Malton district in Ontario and retains the innovation and science files but his ministry has been restructured to include industry, the report said. Meanwhile, Chagger, who served as the government House leader in the last Parliament, will now not only take on diversity and inclusion, but also Trudeau’s responsibility for the youth, it said. However, Amarjeet Sohi who was part of the 2015 Cabinet is not returning this time after his defeat in the election. “The new strong and skilled team. There’s lots of work ahead, and we’re ready to keep moving Canada forward,” Trudeu tweeted. “I’m very excited today to be able to get down to work the way Canadians asked us to in this last
election. To pull together the country, focus on issues of economic growth for the middle class, to fight climate change, and to keep Canadians and their communities safe. That is our focus, and this is the team to do that,” Trudeau was quoted as saying by the CTV news. In the Canadian general election held in October, the Liberal Party bagged 157 seats, the opposition Conservative 121, Bloc Quebecois 32, Indian-origin Canadian Jagmeet Singh-led New Democratic Party (NDP) 24, Green Party 3 and one Independent. To reach the majority of 170 in the 338-seat House of Commons, the Liberals are short of 13 members. This means that meaning in order to pass votes and advance their agenda, the Liberals must gain the support of the opposition MPs, the CTV reported. -- Times of India

Hindus of Greater Houston Host 9th Annual Hindu Youth Awards By Anjali Aggarwal & Komal Luthra Houston: Hindus of Greater Houston celebrated 9th Annual HGH Youth Awards Gala on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 at Durga Bari Society. Hindus of Greater Houston (HGH) alongside its chapter organization, Young Hindus of Greater Houston (YHGH), hosted an event, honoring the Hindu youth of Houston for their community service, leadership, and display of Hindu values. The event chair was Bhawna Luthra, and the emcees were Akash Dhingra and Uma Zingde, current board members of Young Hindus of Greater Houston. The event commenced with a welcoming speech by a representative from Durga Bari Society, Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, highlighting Nishkam Karma, true volunteerism and the many tenets of Hinduism followed by invocation from Smt. Anindita Roy. A group of youth from many temples jointly rendered melodious music ensemble directed by Smt. Rajarajeswary Bhat from Krishna Gana Sudha Academy in celebration of HGH’s 30 years. Thara Narasimhan, President of HGH, highlighted the accomplishments and service of HGH in uniting Hindus and bringing awareness of our faith to the community at large in Houston over the past 30 years. Durga Bari Society artists performed two cultural programs, based on Mahishasura Mardini Stotram and Ram Vandana. The youth represented various temples and Hindu organizations in which they have been involved in. The winners of the 9th Annual Youth Awards were Anishaa Potnis, Sindhuja Sridharan, Nilamani Venisetty, Dhruv Patel, Aatreya Tewary, Muktha Nair, Jay Chakraborti, Yesh Dhruva, Kanika Talwar, Devangshu Goswami, Surabhi Kartick, Devesh Kasireddy, and Radha Mulani. They shared their inspirational experiences of volunteerism and deep-rotted knowledge of Hindu principles. In addition, Acharya Gaurang Nanavaty and Acharya Darshana Nanavaty were the Chief Guests for the evening and received Lifetime Achievement awards for their dedication of spiritual teaching globally and locally. Gaurang ji encouraged everyone to study
Bhagavad Gita to have a deeper understanding of our Manashakti and better ourselves. He said, “To be really called a Hindu, one must be practicing Hindu. I urge one and all to learn Bhagavad Gita, it gives you a goal of life and attain that goal and teach you how to live in samsara”. The keynote speaker of the evening was Rishi Bhutada, the Board of Director of the Hindu American Association (HAF). He shared meaningful personal experiences as a second-generation Hindu in
America and emphasized the accomplishments this generation has made in different arenas along with the challenges faced. Rishi Bhutada was awarded for his outstanding dedication and leadership to the Hindu community. He asked the youth, “stay connected with Hindu community, no matter wherever you go, whatever you do, serve the Hindu community with goal in mind”. Additionally, Uma Zingde and Vidisha Jain, board members of YHGH, presented about the mission and vision of
their organization and encouraged youth ages 18 to 35 years to get involved. Namita Pallod and Abhimanyu Aggarwal, Directors of Hindu Youth Camp, made a thoughtful presentation about Hindu Heritage Youth camp (HHYC), encouraging youth to get involved as counselors at the camp. The event included a panel to have an introspective discussion on various topics, including our cultural and religious identity as second-generation Hindus and the differing experiences of Hindus
from generation to generation. The panel was facilitated by Raghav Agarwal and included four panelists: Neal Verma (Sita Ram Foundation), Rishi Bhutada (HAF), Namita Pallod (HHYC), and Karuna Kankani (Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh). The panelists shared the concern of the impact of Western media on the youth and urged the youth to stay connected to their religion and culture by having deeper understanding of Sanatan Dharma. The Panel discussion gave youth the opportunity to understand the importance of connecting to their peers, their culture and faith through involvement in religious organizations and temples. The awards ceremony concluded with delicious authentic Indian cuisine. The event was enjoyed by all, with amazing performances of Hindu vocal mantras, traditional instruments, and amazing dance performances. People were amazed by the accomplishments of the young Hindus, of their society, and their continued efforts to make an impact on the community. “I am so proud to hear the achievements of these young children” said Manju Rani. “I would never be able to do all these things that these children completed at such a young age when I was that old!” said Shubha Singh. Bhawna Luthra, the event chair, commented, “This event wellrepresented the Hindu community from various temples in Houston and brought everyone together to create cohesion and to strengthen the Hindu values among our youth”. Thara Narasimhan, the President of HGH, commented, “It was a momentous occasion to reflect on the beginning of the Hindu presence in this great city and its evolution over the past few decades. The Hindu youth awards creates a platform for youth to come together. The awardees’ speeches emphasized their creative commitment to serve the Hindu community in the future.” At the end, Madhumita Sengupta of Houston Durgabari Society, handing the baton to Rasesh Dalal of VPSS. The event was a huge success, showcased our youth and inspired by speakers to follow the Santana dharma to live a peaceful life. Raj Salhotra in Dec. 14 Runoff Election for Council At-Large 1 Seat Press Report
HOUSTON: A runoff between a
conservative incumbent and liberal challenger for one of Houston’s citywide council seats presents arguably the sharpest contrast of any race on Houston’s December ballot. Councilman Mike Knox, an Air Force veteran and former police officer, is seeking his second fouryear term but faces stiff competition from Raj Salhotra, a 29-year-old attorney and former high school math teacher making his first run for elected office. Last month, Knox secured 36.5 percent of the vote in the five-person race, far ahead of Salhotra’s 22 percent but not enough to win the race outright. In his bid to retain the At-Large, Position 1 seat, Knox is pitching himself as a persistent check on Mayor Sylvester Turner and a leading advocate of reining in city spending. He also has framed Salhotra as a “Beto socialist” and alleged his challenger would distract city council by pushing partisan issues. “This is a race where we have a young person who’s aspiring to become a career politician, who believes that political agendas are
the most important thing for Houstonians,” said Knox, 61. “And I disagree with that.” Salhotra, meanwhile, is casting Knox as a tea party Republican, contending that the incumbent has served as an antagonist on council and taken positions that threaten to hinder progress on key issues. He rattles off Knox’s dissenting votes by memory: opposing Turner’s pension overhaul, voting against stricter floodplain regulations, voting not to join a lawsuit opposing Texas’ so-called sanctuary cities law, Senate Bill 4. Knox accused Salhotra of misrepresenting his views, noting that he voted against pension reform because the legislation had yet to be drafted, and opposed the floodplain regulations over concerns that the new rules would torpedo the value of thousands of homes, including those that did not flood during Harvey. Knox and Salhotra offer starkly competing visions for the role city government should play, with Knox preferring a narrower set of responsibilities limited chiefly to
public safety, infrastructure and trash pickup, among other core functions. Salhotra envisions a more expansive government that works to reduce economic inequality, which he argues can be accomplished while staying under the city’s property tax revenue cap by incentivizing public-private partnerships, among other ideas. “We can take the view that the city’s
only job is infrastructure and public safety, and those are of course core values, but it can be those and other things,” Salhotra said. “I don’t think having an afterschool program at every library comes at the expense of hiring police officers.” Salhotra denied Knox’s claim that he would seek to inject partisan politics into city council, or that he is seeking to use the position only as a launching pad for a lifelong political career. Asked about Knox’s argument that council needs a reliable check on Turner, Salhotra said he does not expect to agree with the mayor on everything. “I don’t view myself as a rubber stamp for the mayor, for any district council members,” Salhotra said. “I do think it’s important for council members to be independent and to vote based on what’s best for the city as a whole, or their district. I think there are ways to dissent productively that other council members have done, but I don’t think simply voting no on things actually advances any policy.” The race has drawn considerable
attention from party activists on both sides of the aisle due to the evident political leanings of the candidates, and Salhotra’s perceived opportunity to unseat Knox. He has far outraised the incumbent, taking in about $335,000 since he began fundraising in January, compared to Knox’s $83,000 haul during the same span. Salhotra also had outspent Knox more than 2-to-1 through late October, the most recent date covered by campaign finance reports, and had seven times as much cash on hand. The support for each candidate has broken down along mostly partisan lines, with Knox drawing endorsements from Republican Commissioners Jack Cagle and Steve Radack and the Harris County Republican Party, though he also has garnered the support of vanquished opponents Larry Blackmon and Georgia Provost. Salhotra is backed by a who’s-who of local Democratic elected officials, including Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Commissioners Adrian Garcia and Rodney Ellis, former mayor Annise Parker and U.S. Rep. OUSTON: After a successful Diwali-Dusserah Festival on the October 19 at Skeeters Stadium, which was attended by over 10,000 people, including representatives from 15 countries, the Shri Sita Ram Foundation held an appreciation event on the weekend of November 23-24. The event included anAkhand Ramayaan Paath and dinner for the festival’s many sponsors and volunteers at the Foundation’s Hall at 1200 Blalock to thank Lord Ram and appreciate their unselfish work for service to the community. Dr. Arun Verma, President of the Sita Ram Foundation and CEO of Nova Asset Management and his wife, Vinni, are committed to reinforce Indian culture and heritage and organized the event. Brotherhood’. The Foundation hall was decorated especially for the occasion in blue tone colors with silk cloth, flowers, beads and strings of decorative lights. The event started with a 24 hour Ramayaan Paath, initiated by Hanuman Swamiji of Rama Jaya Niketan on the morning of the 23rd. Thereafter, teams of readers took turns in an unbroken chain to read the holy book accompanied with drum beats and harmonium for the next 24 hours. Over 150 people participated joyfully in the activity on the 23rd, with over 250 participating on the next day to the conclusion of the recitation of the Holy Scriptures. While the recitation was continuing at the main Foundation hall, a large TV screen continuously projected the 2,000 photographs and videos taken at the Diwali festival in the adjoining hall. A large tent, decorated with strings of colored lights and streamers was set up outside the hall in the parking lot to serve meals to all the attendees. At the conclusion of the event on Sunday, gracious thanks were offered to all participating temples, organizations, sponsors, volunteers, vendors and media. A sumptuous lunch followed to celebrate the success of the Diwali Festival and concluded at 3:00 pm with plans for a still larger Diwali Festival in 2020.

It marked Isro’s milestone of launching more than 300 satellites from 33 countries in two decades. “I heartily congratulate the entire @isro team on yet another successful launch of PSLV-C47 carrying indigenous Cartosat-3 satellite and over a dozen nano satellites of USA. The advanced Cartosat-3 will augment our high resolution imaging capability. ISRO has once again made the nation proud!,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Wednesday, around 17 minutes after the rocket lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, the launcher injected Cartosat-3 into a 509km polar sun-synchronous orbit. In the next 10 minutes, 13 nanosatellites from the US were placed in their respective orbits. The 1,625kg Cartosat-3 is the first in the third-generation Earth observation satellite with a high-resolution imaging capability and the ninth in the Cartosat series. Isro chairman K Sivan said, YOUR “Cartosat-3 is the most complex and advanced earth observation satellite developed by Isro so far.” The camera on board the satellite is expected to capture images with a spatial resolution of less than 30cm (which means from space it can see objects as small as 30 cm).
Cartosat-1 had 2.5m resolution and the Cartosat-2 series had 1m resolution. Isro said Cartosat-3 would help large-scale urban planning, rural resource management and infrastructure development, besides providing information for coastal land use and land cover. For Isro, this is the 47th successful PSLV flight since its first success on October 15, 1994, when the vehicle, in its second development flight placed 804kg remote sensing satellite IRS-P2 in orbit. So far, PSLV has placed 48 satellites including Chandrayaan, Mars Orbiter Mission and micro, nano and experimental satellites. It was the fifth launch of the year that comes after GSLV-MkIII successfully launched Chandrayaan-2 in July 22. In September, Vikram lander crashed when it attempted to softland on Moon. Isro has so far placed 310 satellites from 33 countries since May 26, 1999 when PSLV, on its second operational flight, carried three satellites in a single vehicle for the first time which included those from Korea and Germany. Sivan said the agency has planned 13 missions in the next four months which includes six launch vehicle missions.

Sikh National Center once again celebrated the Nagar Kirtan at the center, with the parade winding along the same route it took as last year from the SNC and made its first stop at the Best Western Hotel at Gessner and Beltway 8 where the owner, Bhupinder Singh and his wife Surinder Kaur once again provided warm snacks and tea and cold drinks to all those who walked through the parade, over an estimated 500 people. It was also the occasion to celebrate the 550th birthday of birth of Sikhism’s first Guru, Nanak Dev, who took birth in 1459 AD at Nankana (which is now is West Punjab, Pakistan) and later founded the Sikh religion. Nagar Kirtan - a Sikh religious parade - is a small but significant effort in the Sikh identity building process at the local community level. Nagar Kirtans are held in the US during Guru Nanak Dev’s Birthday celebrations by many Sikh communities wherever sizeable Sikh populations have developed. Starting at the SNC, the Panj Pyares — 5 Beloved Ones — led the parade on foot, with the Guru Granth Sahib on a float behind as well as the raagis singing Shabads while the congregation composed of people from the other gurdwaras in the area behind it chanting along. The SNC Board of Directors of SNC, headed by Aman Singh Sidhu, and the float and procession coordinated by Gursharan Singh once again made this year’s Nagar Kirtan a memorable event.

Houston: The Indo-American Chamber of Greater Houston and the Indian Doctors’ Association hosted the SBA Presentation on “how the SBA can help health professionals to grow their business”. Executive Director Jagdip Ahluwalia opened the event by welcoming the speakers and thanked them for their continued support to the chamber and the community. He also thanked the IDA for joining hands with the chamber for this event. He Invited Dr. Vanitha Bala to speak a few words on behalf of IDA. Dr. Bala thanked Jagdip and the chamber for supporting the event and she thanked everyone for coming on a chilly evening. She presented a PowerPoint presentation on IDA and their work over the years. She particularly mentioned that she really appreciated the work the IDA is doing to get the youth involved in the business of medicine. She then invited Dr. Jignesh Shah, the president of IDA

Mr. Mark Winchester, Deputy District Director, U.S. Small Business Administration. screened a PowerPoint presentation on the different kinds of loans that can be provided to business owners and health care professionals. He also informed about the organization HAGGL in Houston which
has about 140 lenders that provide SBA loans. He emphasized that SBA does not give loans but guarantees loans. This was followed with a Q& A session with both Mr. Lopez and Mr. Winchester. After this both the speakers were presented with a certificate of appreciation from both IACCGH and IDA. To conclude, IDA arranged a lucky draw for the people in the room. Dr. Shukla was invited to pick the first winner. She announced the First Winner as Dr. Sheela Chandra. Dr. Sheela Chandra was then asked to announce the second winner, she announced Dr. Vanditha Iyer as the second winner of the lucky draw. SNC Downtown Thanksgiving Parade
By Jawahar Malhotra HOUSTON: The Sikh National Center once again participated in the HEB Thanksgiving Parade with about 150 people from local gurdwaras taking part, walking and waving at the crowds that lined the streets. About 100 people were bussed in from the SNC gurdwara on the Beltway and Fairbanks-N. Houston, while others chose to drive. This year, rather than have a float, two groups of people stood on two flatbeds waving to the crowds, and a giant poster of Guru Nanak made up the last portion, proclaiming the saint’s 550th Birthday which occurred earlier this month. A major element was a giant balloon bearing the picture of slain Harris County Deputy Constable Sandeep Dhaliwal, which floated above and was led by several participants, including his widow and parents. Dhaliwal has become the most recognizable symbol of the Sikh community for most Houstonians. . Many of the Board of Directors of SNC participated, as well as many kids performing Sikh martial arts in the event that was once again this year coordinated by Gursharan Singh. ‘Pagalpanti’ Movie Review: This Anees Bazmee Film is a Mess By Shalini Langer Pagalpanti movie cast: John Abraham, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat, Anil Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Ileana D’Cruz, Kriti Kharbanda Director: Anees Bazmee Movie rating: 0 A fortnight ago, PNB bank fraud accused Nirav Modi threatened suicide if extradited to India from the UK. If it’s any incentive for the once high-flying diamantaire, he has made it to an Anees Bazmee film back home. The film features a fraudster called Niraj Modi who, having cheated a bank called PMB in India, has now become a big don in London. Treasure the moment, for this is the closest the film comes to reality, of any kind. Most of the time it wants us to cheer for three grown men — Abraham (really bad), Warsi (passable), Samrat (unbearable) — deemed unlucky by a pandit (who wears suits and drives a car, in concession for this being London), who fail at everything they
played by Kharbanda is officially dismissed as dim-witted). Among the much too many Indians around in London and the English countryside, there are plenty of white faces in the backdrop, getting kicked around. Some good actors have lent their names to this mess, for what can’t be any reason other than money and the hits somehow against Bazmee’s name. So let’s not go around passing blame. Indian Consulate Leads Celebration of Constitution Day at India House Houston: The Indian Consulate in Houston celebrated the Constitution Day also known as Samvidhan Divas, on 26th November 2019 to mark 70 years of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Both Indian and USA Constitutions begin with the same words “We the People”. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the chief of architect of the Indian Constitution declared in 2015 to celebrate 26 November as the Constitution Day. As part of the celebrations, in the morning, Deputy Consul General Surendra Adhana read the Preamble of the Constitution to the Consulate Staff, and also gave brief description of the process of making of the Constitution. Later in the evening, another event was organized at India House in association members of Indian-American community. The programme began with Deputy Consul General Surendra Adhana
paying tribute to the victims of the Mumbai Terror attack of 2008 followed by reading of Preamble of the Indian Constitution. He also showcased an official reproduc-

The event also included a movie screening on the “Making of the Constitution”, displaying history of how the Indian Constitution came into being. The Master of ceremonies for the evening was Col. Vipin Kumar, Executive Director of India House. Constitution Day was also celebrated across USA and the worlds. In India, Prime Minister addressed the joint session of Parliament.
Reliance Market Cap Surges
Mumbai: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s conglomerate Reliance Industries on Thursday became the first Indian company to reach a market capitalization of 10 trillion rupees ($140 billion), ahead of data expected to show a deep slowdown in Asia’s third-largest economy The feat by Reliance Industries, which spans oil, chemicals, telecommunications and retail, suggests the country’s most valuable company is weathering the slump. Its market cap hit the 10 trillion rupee mark in early trading, making the company the 14th-most valuable in Asia. The BSE Sensex touched a record high of 40,000, also defying the concerns over the slowing economy. The top gainers in the Sensex were Yes Bank, Tata Steel, construction group Larsen & Toubro, wireless carrier Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India. Reliance Industries’ shares have climbed more than 40% year to date, helped by the company’s promise to become debt-free in 18 months and its move to sell stakes in some oil assets to Saudi Aramco.
Wireless unit Reliance Jio Infocomm, which disrupted the telecom sector with free and ultralow-cost service, also recently imposed fees on voice calls, which is expected to bring in incremental revenue. The company took less than a month to move from 9 trillion rupees to 10 trillion rupees in market capitalization. Deven Choksey, managing director at KRChoksey Investment Managers, attributes the rally is mainly to the company’s prospects in consumer-facing businesses. By 2021, on a quarterly basis, “Reliance Jio’s and Retail’s profits are expected to surpass the profits from the core [oil and gas] business,” he said. Reliance “is monetizing its assets. It is growing in size, faster than what it as grown in the last 10 years. I will not be surprised if it reaches 15 trillion rupees in less than 2 years.” In October, Reliance Industries announced it would invest $24 billion in creating a debt-free digital services company, which will, in turn, buy its stake worth $650 billion rupees in subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Tamil Nadu Foundation Houston Celebrates Children’s Day at MTS By Bala Balachandran Pearland: The Tamil Nadu Foundation’s (TNF) - Houston Chapter celebrated this year’s Children’s Day event on November 16th 2019 at Sri Meenakshi Temple in Pearland. The TNF office bearers and members of Advisory Board along with their families arrived early at 4pm and started the function arrangements. The celebration started at 5:00 pm with a Magician show performed by Mr. Paul David Carpenter with various unbelievable tricks and quite interestingly captivating not only the children but also the adult audience. The magician involved adults as well by calling out volunteers in performing certain magic events in a humorous manner. Houston’s mimicry king Mr. Kumaran humorously performed voices of different actors, along with Mr.Nandhu. The program followed by Adalum Padalum for children ages 4 to 8 years, Skit performance for children ages 9 to 12 years, and Houston Youth Karaoke for children ages 19 to 22 years. Prior to today’s celebration TNF Houston Chapter also conducted Sema Singer program for children ages 12 to 18 years. All the chil-
dren sang popular Tamil songs so well that it would have been extremely hard for Singer Sai Saran chose the ultimate ‘Sema Singer’ winner. TCC Fall 2019 Tournament: Cougars Winners, Styx Runners Up Houston: Cougars were crowned as the champions of TCC Taped Ball Fall 2019 on November 2nd 2019 defeating Styx by 8 wickets and thereby claiming their seventh TCC Taped Ball Tournament title. This was Cougars 11th appearance in finals and second against Styx in as many years and both times Cougars came out as winners. It was a highly competitive tournament played between 28 teams and both the teams came up with spirited performances in the playoffs winning some close matches to reach the finals. Cougars bowlers were in red hot form restricting teams to less than 106 throughout the knock outs Styx won the toss on a beautiful Saturday morning and had no hesitation in electing to bat first. Cougars opening bowlers again gave a great start with Dev taking out their inform batsman Deb and Raj Nair in successive balls as Styx could score only 15-2 in first 4 power play overs. After that it was hard grind for Styx as all Cougars bowlers kept the scoring completely under control with their tight bowling and picking regular wickets. At the end of 10 overs Styx were 41 for 4 and eventually made 106 for 7 in their 20 overs thanks to a quick-fire 42 of 36 balls from Raj Singh.
