Tracey Boyd’s creativity transcends conventional boundaries. She lives and breathes design, exploring new experiences of inspiration, textiles and graphic elements to create a refreshingly imaginative aesthetic. Every piece is distinctive and individual – presenting a balance between originality and usability.

Q&A WITH TRACEY BOYD

1. They say that ‘design is in the detail’. What are some of the unique details in your pieces?

My designs tend to be simple shapes with interesting details. Sometimes a tiny button becomes a huge Lucite handle. The Herringbone print on my sideboard shows how I combine my fashion textile background with pattern and furniture.

2. Could you provide us with some insight into your creative process?

I tend to collect hundreds of little ideas collected from sketches on the back of taxi receipts, as well as visual and reference notes I’ve made. I then curate the elements that feel will work best together to start designing into a room.

3. How do you select your colour palette?

I try to create a painting in my mind. Then I choose colours that flow together, by mixing multiple variations of the same shade alongside a mainly monochrome palette.
