New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS): In a big setback for the Congress, its veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned from the party. He has sent his resignation letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Azad has said that he has severed all ties with the Congress. Recently, he quit as J&K campaign committee head after being named

by the party. Azad has been upset since being ignored for the Rajya Sabha membership after he retired as the Leader of Opposition in the Upper House. He was one of the prominent leaders of the party G-23 group which demanded sweeping reforms in the party.
in Geneva for the WTO Ministerial Conference and bilateral meetings. All these visits and hectic schedules show that the Albanese government is focusing on giving importance to Australia’s foreign relations and international commitments. This gives an impression that this government gives importance to external policy almost as much as it gives importance to domestic policy. Resetting important relations Then there is a sort of reset in key relations with France after the cancellation of submarine construction deal, which had seen Australia France relations reaching almost an all-time low. A certain degree o improvement in bilateral relations between Australia and France can be seen. A diplomatic freeze in relations with China was broken after defence ministers of Australia and China met at the Shangri-La Dialogue followed by the ministers for foreign affairs meeting. While the government has reiterated that there has not been any change in its China policy, it says that the efforts have had the effect of “stabilizing the relationship between Australia and China. Changes in climate action Another key change heralded by the Albanese government relates to a substantive policy change on climate action. This has had a positive impact on Australia’s international relations, especially in its dealings with the Pacific with respect to climate action which was absent in so far as the previous government’s initiatives were concerned.
PM Albanese This can be understood from the intent of the Albanese government right from the outset as only four days after being sworn in, Wong spoke to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat to begin “a new era in Australian engagement in the Pacific” based on standing “shoulder to shoulder with our Pacific family” in a bid to respond to the climate crisis. Then unlike the Morrison government, the Albanese government is not putting any pressure on governments of other countries to choose between democratic and authoritarian blocs. The Albanese government is ensuring through its dealings with other countries that “countries are not forced to choose but can make their own sovereign choices, including about their alignments and partnerships”. More importantly, the Albanese government is working hard to increase Australia’s international capability with regard to tools of statecraft. Moreover, the government has announced a Defence Strategic Review and is in the process of updating its International Development Policy.

By Indian Abroad News Desk Even as the government of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reached its 100 days in power, analysts are busy assessing its performance. One of the government’s policies which could be the highlight of the government’s 100 days in power is its foreign policy initiatives. While experts feel there has not been any change per se in the foreign policy of the government, the initiatives taken so far by the government in foreign policy matters seem to be distinct from that of the previous government. Giving impetus to foreign engagements Something that has change since the advent of the Albanese government is the increase in the number of international engagement. After the day he was sworn in as the Prime Minister, Albanese headed for Tokyo for the Quad Leaders’ Summit. Thereafter it was his first bilateral visit to Indonesia, all important international visits. Wong was sent for four separate trips to the Pacific , namely a visit to Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, New Zealand and Solomon Islands. Then one can count Wong’s July visit to attend the Pacific Islands Forum Summit and three to Southeast Asia namely Vietnam and Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia twice. As for Minister for Defence Richard Marles, he has had visits to Singapore, India, the United States and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Rwanda. Minister for Trade Don Farrell was
New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS): A Delhi Court on Wednesday issued summons to actress Jacqueline Fernandez to appear before it on September 26 in an alleged extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. The development came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) named her in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case. Taking note of the second supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED,
special judge Parveen Singh of the Patiala House Court summoned the actress to appear before the court on September 26. A detailed order will be made available later in the day. Recently, the ED had attached a number of Jacqueline’s fixed deposits claiming that they had tainted money. The agency filed the second supplementary chargesheet on August 17 in the matter against the actress.
The probe agency had attached Jacqueline’s FDs worth Rs 7.2 crore, terming them as proceeds of crime. In February, the ED had filed its first supplementary prosecution complaint against Pinky Irani, an alleged aide of Chandrashekhar who had introduced him to Bollywood actresses. Pinky used to choose costly gifts for Jacqueline and later used to drop them at her house after the payments were made by Chandrashekhar, as per the chargesheet. In December last year, the ED had filed the first chargesheet in this matter. Chandrashekhar spent around Rs 20 crore on buying gifts for models and Bollywood celebrities, which were refused by a few of them. Jacqueline has confessed to have received expensive gifts from Chandrashekhar.
