Whether it’s on the football and rugby fields, on the cricket pitch, in the MMA hexagon or the boxing ring, or in the water, South Africa has plenty to celebrate about our women athletes. From Marizanne Kapp leading on the global cricket stage with bat or ball in hand, to Desiree Ellis orchestrating Mzansi’s maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in football, women’s sport is on the rise. In this edition of our digital magazine we celebrate our Sheroes’ achievements and acknowledge the challenges that they face in flying the country’s flag. To that end we also look at the disparities in remuneration between the male and female national soccer sides, and call for a leveling of the playing fields.
