THE POWER OF PRAYER FABRICE MUAMBA...remarkable recovery WHEN Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed with a cardiac arrest during his team’s FA Cup Quarter Final against Spurs it sparked a remarkable outpouring of prayer and support. The 23-year-old’s heart stopped for 78 minutes while paramedics and specialists at the London Chest Hospital fought to save his life. In the agonising minutes after Fabrice collapsed on the White Hart Lane pitch, several players – including Spurs striker Rafael van de Vaart – fell to their knees in prayer.

In the hours after the match players and thousands of fans went onto the internet to call for prayers for Fabrice, who has a strong Christian faith. All around the country – and in other parts of the world – people prayed for a man they
knew only through his position as a Premier League footballer. The following day Chelsea players wore ‘Pray 4 Muamba’ T-shirts under their kit and at football matches all over the UK fans and players showed their support for him. Remarkably Fabrice stunned medical experts with his rapid recovery – which many described as ‘miraculous’ – and within a few days he was sitting up in bed and talking with family, friends and fellow players. Two weeks after his collapse a picture of Fabrice was posted on his Twitter feed to thank people for ‘such overwhelming support.’
