Ferragosto, an Italian holiday celebrated on August 15, holds its roots in ancient Roman customs and Christian traditions. Originally known as “Feriae Augusti,” it was a festival dedicated to Emperor Augustus, celebrating the bountiful harvest and providing a break for workers from labor. In 582 AD, the holiday was transformed into a Christian feast day to honor the Assumption of Mary. Today, Ferragosto remains a cherished Italian tradition, marked by family gatherings, delicious feasts, and a nationwide escape to coastal towns, lakes, or mountains. The Humane Society of Missouri is looking for volunteers to help walk large dogs at the shelter. They are seeking out strong volunteers who have experience walking large dog breeds and fit the following requirements: - Must be 18+. - Must be able to commit to a weekly time shift (3 hours) for at least 6 months. - An understanding that the shelter dogs you will be walking are energetic and strong. - There is a $25 start fee that includes a t-shirt!
