Shawna C Measurements- 36"-28"-39 Age- 27 Height- 5"4 Weight- 125 Eyes- Brown Hair- Dark Brown/Medium Current Location- Memphis,Tn Non-Union Links- www.ShawnaC.Com Below is an interview of Shawna C. conducted by VOICE Magazine’s Afi Camara: V.M: How long have you been modeling and what inspired you to become a model? S.C.: I have been modeling now for 3 1/2 years it will be four years in Sept 2013. Modeling is something I always wanted to do but never had the courage to follow through with. As a child growing up I was short, very skinny and had a huge gap in between my teeth which caused me to be not as confident as I am today. I would always watch America's Next Top Model wishing that I was giving the chance to show my many talents. But in this industry today its sad to say sometimes its not that easy, its about who you know or what you look like. I'm only 5'3 so I knew I could never have a successful career in modeling, after several years of low self-esteem thinking I didn't have what it takes. As the years pasted I later saw a season of AMTM that showcased Eva Pigford a model who wasn't the regular 6"ft long legs, skinny build. Yet she fought hard, had a lot of drive & determination. That reminded me of the person crying out inside of me. So on my birthday 3 1/2 years ago I looked myself in the mirror and asked myself what is it you want out of life? What is it you desire? You have been giving your all to everyone else when are you going to chase your dream? That day I made the decision to pursue modeling. I did lots of research, i studied the craft, went on audition after audition, built a resume, built a name now I'm working to build my brand.
27
28
V.M: What is the biggest challenge of your work as a model and spokesperson? S.C.: My biggest challenge as a model is knowing that i will never be accepted in this industry along with the "Greats"... Meaning no matter how long or how hard i study, practice, & work on my skills i will only be "Just" an urban model. Like urban mags, promo work, music videos, trade shows etc. Not speaking down on those jobs because they have gotten me where i am today. I m saying i will never be excepted as a real runway or "Model" due to my height or weight. You'll never see me on the runway in New York, Paris, Milan etc. I just don't have the look but i know if i were every giving the chance i would make jaws drop & hearts stop. Until then I'll keep polishing my craft in other areas. Until i make it one and I'm able to change things for my fellow models coming along behind me. V.M: What is your proudest achievement? S.C.: I have several accomplishments that have made me proud but the one that always stand out the most is working with Tyler Perry. I've had the opportunity of working with Mr. Perry on set 3 of 4 visits to the TPS. I've worked on Meet The Browns, two episodes of For Better Or Worse and his new sitcom Love Thy Neighbor. The feeling I get being on set with a person of his caliber, the knowledge, the wisdom he has is mind blowing. I go through this out of body experience every time I walk on the premises. Like this is a dream it can’t be real. Yet I'm always so honored & remain humble because i know right now I'm hidden for a reason. One day my talents will be revealed to the world & you then will see all this hard work was never in vein. V.M: What leaders, thinkers or doers do you admire most? S.C.: There are a lot of leaders, thinkers & doers that inspire me, so its hard to name just one. You have of course President & First Lady Obama, Tyler Perry, Oprah, Tyrese, Tyra Banks and many more. A few things that always come to
29
30
many levels. Here you have the first Black President & first Lady that just by there presence in office will give so many young African Americans coming up the hope. That one day I to can become President, because of the doors & paths our President are paving now for our children future. You also have Tyler Perry once homeless fighting for a dream. Now employing and keeping employed not only his fellow people but people all over the world. Tyra Banks she started the platform for young models who wanted to enter the industry. She has always been a positive role model to young women & women all over the world by inspiring us, always sharing her knowledge of the craft in this business. Something our children are lacking in today's era, great role models. V.M.: What is one thing you’ve learned from your career that you would pass along to young people who want their careers and lives to have an impact? S.C.: One thing that i have learned over the last 3 years which has allowed me to keep progressing that will have a great impact on your career is to "never settle". If there is something you want never give up, never lose faith, never get discouraged & never settle. I never settled when people told me i could never be a model. I never settled when people told me I didn’t’ have the right look. I never settled for anything anyone else had to say if it wasn't in line with what i saw myself doing with my career. Take risk, don't be content, step outside of the box, don't be afraid of change nor rejection. Use everything that you are faced with negatively and use as a stepping stone to get you where you want to be. V.M.: You recently had an audition at Tyler Perry Studios. Can you tell us about it? S.C.: I never audition for Tyler Perry Studio. I saw different submissions for his projects so being a freelance model/actress i manage myself. So I'm always submitting & booking myself for numerous gigs. I've had the pleasure of being booked at Tyler Perry Studio on four different occasions. The experience in itself to me is life changing because its so much that i admire about him as a man/person. Being around him just makes you want to do better, be better, give it all you got. Every time i visit TPS i listen to this inspirational video by Mr. Perry called "Sometimes Your Meant To Be Hidden". I struggled with being hiding in some many ways, I love being seen, being noticed, applauded for my success & accomplishments. But in this video Mr. Perry talks about way sometimes its best to be under estimated. For people to not know who you are, to be overlooked until God reveals you to the world. On my last visit to TPS Feb 21, 2013 Mr,Perry acknowledge me briefly. Even though its was something so small i look at it as something that will one day be so great. Until then I'll remain hiding and enjoy every chance i get to visit & work at TPS.
31
V.M: You are a very busy individual. Can you tell our readers what they can expect next from you? S.C.: Yes, I am very busy right now & wouldn't have it no other way. So what I will tell the readers is always expect the unexpected when it comes to Shawna C. I m not afraid of trying new thinks weather its modeling today, sitcom tomorrow, movie next week. Just know you haven't seen the last of me, I will continue to build my name and expand my brand... Stay Tuned V.M: What is/are you favorite pastimes? S.C.: The fact that I'm always traveling or working I have to say my favorite pastimes always include my family. Rather we spend time in our game room playing bowling, tennis, or super Mario Bros on the Wii. Or if its family night at Putt Putt sometimes as simple as movie night with the family. I enjoyed cooking so I love when i cook a huge meal and my mom, siblings, uncle & aunt comes over. All in all i guess being able to be with my family keeps me normalized which keeps me humble.

Janya Vurae Paving the Way for a New Breed of Model 33
When LL described his “Around the Way Girl” he must have had New Orleans model Janay Vurae’ in mind. With her confident swagger and full lips, its easy to see why she was the lead in Super Blanco’s “I Bet I Do’ video. Inspired by Melyssa Ford, Janya was always attracted to the world of pop culture as a child. However, she sees herself blossoming into an entrepreneur possibly in makeup artistry and hair design through her connections in entertainment. Singing is also on her agenda. “Going from still shoots to doing that video has been the highlight of my career so far,” says the 5’4”, 36-29-29 nursing student. “I’m also well known for hosting events around New Orleans and being on the reality show First Date. Janya admits that the industry has shown her some unpleasant times. Like most models in their beginning stages, she’s experienced fraudulent and money hungry talent scouts. However, Janay intends to hold her ground because she knows the fame will come in due time. “I will not indulge in any pornographic content or raunchy nudity. I’m paving the way for a new breed of model,” says Janay. Janay Vurae is an independent model and is currently available for booking in print, promo and eye candy modeling. V-What is the meaning of your name? Makeda is the queen of Sheba linked to Judaism & rasatafarian known as Makeda and Solomon, one of the queens of Sheba. V-What is sensual exercise and how is this exercise geared towards sexual health? Makeda Voletta- Health in general & sexual health, yes. By learning how to be fit & cared for in general, with strong immune system strenthening muscles & having strong orgasms circling the energy including breast massage. Cervical cancer is very prevalent now. This also deals with seal tram issues which erect sexual & self expression, ultimately understanding how to keep the immune system strong & body balanced. V- When did you start sensual exercise and was this targeting females? Makeda Voletta- Most clients were men initially, but in Oct 07, I ramped up to half male, half female. V-How was this regime accepted in the black communities?
42
Makeda Voletta-I found that Whites & asians took fitness more seriously. This exercise helped more women of color that carried sexual trauma. V- How has traveling the world shaped your ability to teach and inform others? Makeda Voletta-I learned alot from Haiti,Cuba, and Brazil. I learned that gyrations have meaning. I studied them. African dance is powerful, and not slow like belly dancing. Contractions & body movements are more intense. They are more exhausting than aerobics. These dances came from slaves. They actually show how out of shape you are. Dance gives best body awareness by learning how to look at something & do it V-When or how did you realize that this was essential to incorporate with personal training? Makeda Voletta- I realized that people didn't know how to do what I did. It put me in a position to assess their level & help them with control over self. V- How important was it for you to tie exercise in with dance? Makeda Voletta- It has purpose & meaning because it focuses on black dance derived from Africa & slavery. Native America & Africans are oral & dance is a lot of the history. 43
V- Were people receptive initially? Makeda Voletta- People are intimidated by dance classes. Black dance is not looked at seriously. V- Can you share with Voice, your experience in Costa Rica regarding exercise? How do the native people differ from other cultures? Makeda Voletta- I performed workshops in Costa Rica, which they organized. I began teaching men there first. The men there are not as group oriented and are not as comfortable talkng about sexual problems or even working out. I found that the women share a lot more. V- Is there a sensual exercise for men? Makeda Voletta- I started out training men one on one.
44
I have been a personal trainer for 10 years and started out working with men. During those times, men with erection problems would talk to me as their personal trainer. The men's exercises are external & harder. I teach them exercises that support sexual organs ie, contracting pc muscle. These stretches require them to hold the penis & stretch it; pulling it in different directions, allowing the muscle that connects the scrotum to penis exercise.
V- What kind of physical aids are available to assist with men/their libido? Makeda Voletta- The practice is mostly focused on them holding back. Female bodies are yen & more internal . To balance women yen, we have to release more & let go more.
45
Men are external yang. Their bodies hold back more which is geared towards not ejaculating all the time, resulting in something wrong with prostate & erectile dysfunction i.e., prevention. Blue balls tend to store energy to different parts of the body. Men can have orgasms without ejaculating, which can be harder. The muscle has to be strengthened resulting in longer, better erections. V-What can women do to support a healthier sex drive, which could force the body to be seen as one whole organism? Makeda Voletta- Reflexology points in the vaginal canal used with the jade egg makes women focus inside. IV- I've heard a lot about kegel exercise and ben wa balls versus the jade egg. What's the difference? Makeda Voletta- Kegels are just squeezing. Some women need to squeeze more, and some need to relax more. The shape is difference between jade eggs and Ben wa balls is that jade eggs conform to vaginal canal better. Benwa balls are made of stones, which have metal properties. Different stones work with different energy & healing properties. V- How does the jade egg strengthen the vaginal walls since the healing properties differ? Makeda Voletta- There is a strings which assists with vaginal weight lifting. Whole strengthening tendons in vaginal muscle prevents vaginal prolapse. A weight may be attached. V- Can the jade egg be used during sensual exercise? Makeda Voletta- Yes, this is geared towards resistance training. The jade egg plus dancing equals arousal and move sexual energy.
46
V- Can pregnant women participate in this exercise & how does she benefit from it? Makeda Voletta- It's not a good idea for pregnant woman to work jade egg. Using a string maybe gentle, but it may not be appropriate. It's better to start before you become pregnant. V- If someone is interested in participating in this fitness training, how many times per week would they perform these exercises to receive the maximum health benefit? Makeda Voletta- It depends, at least 3min5 are *ideal* times per week V-What's next for Makeda Voletta? Makeda Voletta- I'm finishing my DVD titled, "Sexual Strength Training" I also have a Cd thats geared towards the egg-sacred yoni flower. I'm teaching in New York and have traveling workshops where I'm focusing on developing level 2 of the class. V- You travel a lot promoting wellness, spirituality and fitness? Have you ever considered taking your show on the road to a venue you've never touched? Makeda Voletta- Yes, I'm planning a one woman show called Mambo Priestess of Fire. It will tell the story about everything I've learned & different connections without colonial outfits from French & spanish, which represented indecent sexual moves back then. Songs will be sung about big African butts and how they were made fun of. In those times, women were covered with clothes preventing them from getting vitamin D. This will bring awareness. V- Are there any mens workshops on the horizon? Makeda Voletta- Yes, it's Kundalini strength training, the same as sexual training.
47
V- How will the public find out about your workshops and one woman shows? Makeda Voletta- I am connecting the one woman show to the workshops-8/13,14 in Chicago. I had not given much consideration to dance incorporated with sensuality and physical aids. I was very much aware of Ben wa balls, and have made it a practice of strengthening my vaginal walls and core muscles through Kegel exercises. This is something that should be very important to all women. However, the use of the jade egg, weighted or not, is intriguing and beneficial. I believe self-awareness starts in the mirror. I encourage women and men alike, to get in tune with their body balance, immune system and muscle strengthening. We only have one life to live and one body to live it in. Do not be intimidated! Move your hips today. Makeda Voletta may be contacted via Facebook at: www.facebook.com/makedavoletta

A true “South American Gem” Ralen Watts has more to offer than just her beautiful hazel eyes This 5’7 (32-24-30) Brazilian born model and aspiring actress prides herself on “getting the job done efficiently and with class.” Ralen was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. While growing up she recalls that there weren’t many Brazilian role models men or woman due to the immense poverty, the government setup and third world living conditions. It was a place with violence and no lights or running water, “ she says.. Her impoverished beginnings didn’t stop or hinder Ralen from setting high goals or hinder her understanding of the importance of obtaining an education. “When we came to America which is the land of no doubt the best place to be in the world I was especially interested in American Culture, History and Business,” she says. “Luckily, my parents encouraged those interests. The same encouragement that drove me to excel unlike most Brazilian woman that will never get out of Brazil or obtain an education,” she states compassionately. Ralen graduated from high school at 17 and went UCLA where she earned BA in Business and Information System. Soon after, she graduated from UCLA she obtained a job in the oil and gas Industry with Halliburton which is one of the most successful companies in the world. As an oil and gas p[professional Ralen spent six months in the Middle East embarking up the corporate ladder. However, Ralen’s passion lied elsewhere.
