$Value Changes Due to Market Trends Recent cattle market declines will shift dollar value indexes ($Values) slightly lower July 1 when the American Angus Association® and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) release the National Cattle Evaluation. This is the first time since $Values were introduced that the annual update of economic assumptions has resulted in a decline for the bioeconomic selection indexes. $Values incorporate expected progeny differences (EPDs) for multiple traits as well as economic market factors like calf prices and feed costs, and are based on three-year rolling averages to more accurately reflect beef industry trends. Beef value ($B) will lower about $6 on average; weaned calf value ($W) will decline an average of $2. While not all animals will shift by the same amount, percentile rankings should remain relatively similar. It’s important to remember that lower $Values from the July update are vastly due to cattle market conditions, rather than declines in genetic merit or breed trends. In fact, genetic trend lines show healthy progress for the breed. Learn more using the following resources:

In Passing - Charles Pezanoski Charles Robert Pezanoski, 57, of Dimmick passed away June 24, 2016, in St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. He was born June 21, 1959, in Streator to Robert and Catherine (Naughton) Pezanoski. He married Roberta “Bobbie” Noble on May 26, 1989. Chuck was a graduate of La Salle-Peru Township High School and Wyoming Technical Inistitute. He was the owner of Lou’s Spring & Welding Shop Inc., Peru. He attended Grace Bible Fellowship and was a member of American Angus Association and Illinois Angus Association. Chuck was passionate about the Angus cattle industry and enjoyed working with his sons to prepare for cattle shows. He was known for being a hardworking and honest businessman. His heartwarming laugh and easy smile were contagious. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Even at the end of his life, he still gave to others by becoming an organ donor. Chuck is survived by his wife and sons, Keith and Ty, at home; his mother, Catherine Pezanoski of Peru; brothers, William of La Salle and Terry (Michelle) of La Salle; his sister, Trisha (Jay) Bottarini of Ottawa; eight nephews; two nieces and many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his father. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or funeral. A private service for the family will be at a later date. Cremation Society of Illinois assisted the family. The family would like to establish a monetary Chuck Pezanoski Illinois Junior Angus Leadership Award in his honor. Activities IJBA Membership Meeting & Ice Cream Social
Join your fellow IJBA members for an update on programs, to elect new directors in each district and to enjoy ice cream on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. in the Orr Bulding (behind the Junior Livestock Building). Awards for the speech contest and photography contest will also be presented.
