Sept. 12, 2019 Dear Angus Breeders: I wanted to update the membership on the recent Association Board of Directors meeting this past week. Here is a summary of our major action items: •

We had a lot of discussion around improving our commercial programs. We will be merging the feeder calf programs into one. Angus Link will now include Age and Source verification, options for genetic scoring and additional Process Verified Programs (PVPs) for 100% Angus-sired and NHTC. Staff have a plan in place to transition enrollments over the coming months to avoid customer disruptions. Approved a by-law revision for the Angus Foundation to restructure the Foundation Board of Directors. Angus Foundation-sponsored Henry Smith came in person to share about his experience at NCBA Young Cattlemen’s Conference (YCC). The Angus Foundation investment in Henry was definitely well spent as we were extremely well represented. During the Angus Media discussions, we guided staff about how to handle advertisers wanting to use individual rankings for $C in the Angus Media products and services. Staff gave an update on the continued progress of Pasture to Publish sale book portal. We learned about an information systems upgrade planned to keep up with technological advances and allow better service to our members. Learned from the communications team about improving the format of The Angus Report, as well as upcoming updates to the national ad campaign. A lot of discussion around putting together a more robust educational offering to our membership to be a better resource for information. Discussed and approved fiscal year 2020 budget. Guest Dr. John Cole with USDA presented on his research with haplotypes in dairy cattle. Watch for an interview with him coming on The Angus Report. Saw Structured Sire Evaluation data, and the results look encouraging.

Amelia Miller Earns Junior Bronze and Silver Awards Amelia Miller, Gridley, Ill., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver awards, according to Jaclyn Upperman, education and events director of the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo. Miller is the 16-year-old daughter of Alan and Theresa Miller and attends El Paso-Gridley High School. She is a member of the NJAA and the Illinois Junior Angus Association, where she has served as director, show secretary and royalty. She has participated in local, state, regional and national shows and showmanship contests. At the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS), Miller participated in the prepared public speaking, extemporaneous speaking and quiz bowl contests and the All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-Off. She also participated in the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) conference and the mini LEAD conference in 2017 and the Raising the Bar conference in 2018. Miller has consigned cattle to the Prairie View Farm Sale. The Bronze and Silver awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards, than meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

Illinois Angus Association Board of Directors Meeting 3/25/19 The March 25, 2019 meeting of the Illinois Angus Association was held at Baxter’s American Grille in Bloomington, IL. President Garrett Lampe called the meeting to order at 5:20. The roll call was held. The following members were present. Brent Henkel, Bret Parr, Carla Jurgenson, David Jenkins, Garrett Lampe, Jim Marsh, Keith Kramer, Luke Lemenager, Tracie Rawlings, Trevor Kuipers, Tyler Rhode, Kyle Buetke, Clay Sellmeyer, Doug Turner, Lee Stremsterfer, and Aaron Schafer. Members absent were Alan Miller, Grant Bedel, Jeff Dameron, Joel York, John DeRycke, Paul Handsaker, Richard Hurst, and Casey Jentz. The Minutes from the February 21, 2019 meeting were presented to the board for review. The date was corrected to 2019. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Carla Jurgenson and seconded by Tracie Rawlings. The potion carried. The Business Manager Report was Given by Doug Turner. Doug told the board that our membership looks to be about the same as last year. There were 135 Angus Heifers shown in the Illinois Beef Expo Junior Angus Show this year. They were each given an additional $10 in Premiums. Lee Stremsterfer gave the group the Sale Committee report. The Illinois Angus Futurity Sale totals are as follows: Bulls - 10 - $3885 , Open heifers - 31 - $3579 , Bred heifers - 8 - $5412, Total - 49 - $3940 , Sale gross of $193,100 Bret Parr presented the Show Committee report. Brent Murphy is scheduled to do the Illinois State Fair. Promotion committee was represented by Keith Kramer and Luke Lemenager. Luke thanked everyone for their support of a successful “Seeds of the Future” auction. Carla Jurgenson gave the Finance Committee report. The committee found the financial records to be accurate. A motion to approve the Finance report was made by Carla Jurgenson and seconded by David Jenkins. Banquet committee chair David Jenkins told the group that the banquet went well. He thanked Carla Jurgenson for her help. The Illinois Junior Angus Association report was given by Trevor Kuipers. Lindsay Decker is the new junior association president. Holly Marsh is this years Illinois Angus Queen. The juniors will be having an officer meeting March 31, 2019. We had no committee reports from the following: Illinois Angus News, American Angus Association, & Illinois Beef Association. Old Business: None New Business: The Nominating committee brought forth a new slate of officers to the board for consideration. Brent Henkel represented the committee and nominated Trevor Kuipers for President. Tyler Rhode for Vice President. Doug Turner for Business Manager. Aaron Schafer for Secretary. Brent Henkel made a motion to close nominations. Luke Lemenager seconded that motion. The motion passed. A motion to cast a unanimous ballet was made by Brent Henkel and seconded by Keith Kramer. The motion carried. The board needs a new person to correspond with our website provider, Ranch House Design. Trevor Kuipers offered to be the contact person. With no further business to discuss a motion to adjourn was made by Tyler Rhode and seconded by Keith Kramer. The motion carried. Respectfully Submitted, Aaron Schafer
