Where does my money go?

Pastors are sometimes asked this question when it comes time to approve the local church budget. A line item marked “Cooperative Program” with a percentage next to it may be fully understood by longtime Southern Baptists, but not everybody knows where the money goes. Every week in our worship services and church communications, we may want to take just a minute to highlight the impact of our offerings through systematic, percentage giving from the local church’s undesignaged receipts. Some churches reach their goal of 10% or more in CP missions giving. Together, 47,000 SBC churches give $190 million to missions through CP. Local. For every dollar that goes to missions through Cooperative Program, the church is giving to the missions causes in this chart. Starting here in Illinois through the work of the Illinois Baptist State Association, 56.5% of that dollar funds missions and ministry that starts new churches and strengthens existing congregations. Our state missions team trains church leaders, educates evangelists and disciplemakers, facilitates compassion ministry through Disaster Relief, and hosts camps and spiritual growth events for children teens, women, and men. Global. The remaining 43.5% of that dollar given through Cooperative Program supports international missions, church planting and compassion ministries in North America, theological training for pastors and missionaries, and SBC representation in the public square. Half of all funds received on the national level go to support missionaries worldwide, as Southern Baptists take seriously the call to carry the gospel to the ends of the earth. The Good News is needed there, just as it transforms lives here.
