The study is an attempt to find out the risk factors in children with developemental delay below 5 years of age.
Thirty children were taken for the study. The children’s age ranged from 1 to 5 years. Who were attending Sweekar
Rehabilitation Institute for Handicapped, Secunderabad. The scales used were Risk Factor check list and Denver
developmental schedule.
The data were qualitatively analised and the results are discussed. Results reveal that consanguinity, mother’s age,
nutritional deficiency, hypertention, jaundice are significant risk factors reported during prenatal stage. Bleeding during
pregnancy, attempted abortion where some of the risk factors during perinatal stage. Deloyed birth cry, low birth weight are
the risk factors during perinatal stage.
