Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) are coming forward as an outstanding insects for bioconversion of
organic waste, which can convert household organic waste, i.e. manure, kitchen waste, into biomass rich in protein and fat. The
harvested BSF larvae contained 40% protein and 30% fat. BSF may be used in low middle income countries to biodegrade the
organic waste into valuable animal feedstuff, in their last larval stage called as prepupa. Revenues from sales of this valuable
animal feed can cover cost of waste collection
