Dear Partner in ministry,
The witch doctor was happy to see them.
“You are here on a good day,” he told them. “I am about to perform my magic, and the spirits are going to respond. You have arrived at the right time.”
A crowd gathered as the two men watched to see what would unfold. As the witch doctor carried out his rituals, people were anxious to witness the events that would most surely take place. But the witch doctor seemed confused. “There is something wrong,” he said. “I will try again.”
“I am about to perform my magic, and the spirits are going to respond. You have arrived at the right time.”
Bewildered that the spirits were not answering, he turned to the two strangers and issued an invitation. “Come into my hut with me,” he said. “The magic is stronger in there. You will see the spirits in action.”
As they followed the witch doctor into his hut, the two men prayed that God would be glorified. Before long, the witch doctor stopped. “I don’t understand,” he said. “The spirits never fail to appear.” As the men smiled, the witch doctor became curious. “What are you smiling about?” he asked them. “Do you know something I do not know?”
“Not something, but Someone,” they replied. “We know why your magic is not working. There is One here who is mightier than the spirits. As long as the Creator is present, the demons will not be allowed to operate.”
The witch doctor was well-known and well-respected in the village. For decades, he had practiced the dark arts and often helped people by removing illnesses and bringing about cures for various diseases and ailments. It was by practicing witchcraft that he supported himself and his family. But now, he had encountered a power greater than that of the demons with whom he communicated.
“Tell me more,” he said. “If there is One greater than the spirits, I want to know who that is. Teach me about this Creator, that I may learn His ways.”

Today, the witch doctor is a committed Christian believer. He is a former witch doctor, and since he began to share his faith, he has led others to become followers of Jesus. The two men who entered his village in a remote part of Ethiopia were It Is Written Bible workers, who taught him the Bible and led him to baptism. The witch doctor and his wife are now dedicated to sharing Jesus, where once they shared spiritualism and darkness.
Before It Is Written evangelistic meetings take place, Bible workers are employed to take the message of the cross to people in the areas where we are going to proclaim the gospel. These individuals find people who are willing to study the Bible and guide them in their spiritual walk, gently assisting them in their growth as believers in Jesus.
This year, It Is Written Bible workers will be utilized in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, and Ukraine, among other places. Bible workers will prepare people to make life-altering decisions for Jesus. While they won’t reach every person who will attend our meetings, they will encourage hundreds—even thousands—of people to study the Bible and get to know Jesus as their personal Savior.
“In addition to church members sharing their faith, the Bible workers we employ will reach many people looking in the direction of heaven,” said Pastor Wes Peppers, director of evangelism and missions at It Is Written. “In many cases, they will be people who have watched It Is Written television programs and have already learned many of the great teachings of the Bible. Our Bible workers are invaluable in reaching the lost for Jesus.”
The average cost for hiring a Bible worker is $450 per month. In some countries, such as Sierra Leone, the cost is as low as $100 per month, while in others it can cost as much as $1,000 per month. Your support of It Is Written will directly lead to souls being won as we enlist well-trained Bible workers to share the message of Scripture with others.
And this approach to evangelism eliminates any language or cultural barriers, as the Bible workers themselves are from the culture in which they will share their faith. Along with dedicated church members, our teams of Bible workers will be used by God to grow the kingdom of heaven.
Your gift this month will advance It Is Written evangelism in 2026 and beyond. A donation of $100 will provide a Bible worker for a month in Sierra Leone. A gift of $1,000 will provide a Bible worker for a month in Ukraine, in preparation for our meetings there in 2027. This long-range preparation ensures far greater evangelistic effectiveness and will swell the harvest we anticipate in each place.
You will recall the story I shared with you about James, the young man in Baltimore who attempted on multiple occasions to end his life. When he reached out to study the Bible, it was a conference-employed Bible worker who connected with James, studied the Bible with him, and encouraged him as he grew in his relationship with Jesus.
Bible workers make an enormous difference in It Is Written evangelism, enabling thorough preparation before evangelistic meetings and thorough follow-up afterwards.
“Many people who make decisions during evangelistic meetings but aren’t quite ready to be baptized do so after the meetings are over,” said Pastor Wes. “In Ethiopia, the dedicated follow-up done by our Bible workers brought more than 1,000 additional people to baptism after the meetings were over.”

While in Bogotá, Colombia, recently, I met a truly remarkable man. Pedro was a Bible worker following up on It Is Written Bible study requests that came in through the broadcast of our Spanish-language program, Escrito Está. Pedro set himself the ambitious target of leading 60 people to baptism in just one year. But long before 2025 was over, Pedro had already seen 70 of his Bible study contacts come to baptism. He wondered if it was possible to hit a new milestone before 2026.
When I asked Pastor Robert Costa how Pedro could be so effective, he was very clear. “The man is dedicated! In some cases, he was studying the Bible with shift workers at four o’clock in the morning. With others, he studied at 10 at night. He was totally focused on sharing the Bible with our media interests.”
Before 2025 was over, Bible worker Pedro had led, remarkably, more than 100 people to baptism!
