he Rialto City Council unanimously approved a Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) and a series of land-use entitlements on Tuesday, June 9, for a proposed warehouse development at the northeast corner of Valley Boulevard and Willow Avenue. mental impacts, whereby an applicant agrees to reduce the impacts to a less-thansignificant level, negating the need for a full Environmental Impact Review (EIR). In the Inland Empire, MND’s are often disputed by community advocates due to issues of environmental justice and stewardship, land-use and warehouse saturation. The project, proposed by Investment Building Group, calls for the demolition of an existing building and construction of two warehouse buildings totaling nearly 120,000 square feet on roughly six acres. The development includes one 73,210-square-foot
warehouse and a second 46,758-square-foot warehouse, along with parking, landscaping and site improvements. Before council members issued a vote, a public hearing was held and a representative of the Supporters Alliance for Environmental Responsibility (SAFER) urged the council to require a full EIR rather than adopt the MND. he Rialto City Council approved two major public safety investments Tuesday, June 9, authorizing an $7.86 million project estimate increase for the city’s new police head-
quarters project and approving nearly $2.5 million for the purchase, installation and maintenance of 113 public safety cameras throughout the city. The police headquarters amendment increases the project’s Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) by $7,861,852.43
and includes construction of a south parking lot expansion on a recently acquired parcel at 126 S. Willow Ave., along with additional contingency funding for ongoing construction costs. Rialto PD, cont. next pg.
