n August 12th, the Department of Toxic Substance Control’s (DTSC) Office of Brownfields awarded San Bernardino’s Casa Ramona $4.9 million for envi-

ronmental cleanup activities resulting from a devastating fire in July 2020.
The San Bernardino City Unified School District Mediterranean-style school, which was architected by Pentagon Designer David
Whitmer, opened its doors on November 1st, 1926, as Ramona School, which schooled grades one through six.
“In 1971, the district abandoned the building because it did not meet earthquake stan-
dards, and a Deed of trust was executed between the San Bernardino City Unified School District and La Confederacion of Mexican-American Organizations, Inc. for the purchase of the Ramona School,” said former Casa Ramona Casa Ramona cont. on next pg.

he San Bernardino City Council has awarded a construction contract to extend State Street from 16th Street to Baseline Street, a project that has been envisioned to improve mobility for over 20 years.
The contract, awarded on August 17th to Riverside Construction Company of Riverside, CA in the amount of $7,436,165, will construct a new four lane divided roadway that includes medians, sidewalks, and storm drains.
The project is located just south of the 210 Freeway and parallels the Lytle Creek Basin. The new street will improve City of SB, cont. on pg. 2

Construction on the half mile long project is anticipated to begin in September with an expected completion date of June 2023.
