tanding in a union hall filled with families lining up for free photos with Santa on Dec. 3, Teamsters Local 1932 Principal Officer Randy Korgan said the most urgent issue facing Inland Empire workers isn’t holiday spending — it’s whether they will be able to retire at all. “Now you see a very small percentage of

workers that can actually retire,” Korgan said. “More than 80% of workers in the workforce do not have a retirement vehicle upon retiring at this given point right now. It is a shocking, absolutely shocking statistic.” Korgan said too many people who spend decades on the job are being pushed out just when they should be able to slow down.

“People get into their 50s or early 60s and inevitably what happens is you run into a health issue that then forces you to retire from the job that you’ve been doing for a very long time,” he said. “The vast majority of the workforce, even though they should be ready to retire, are not ready. And it’s not their fault; it’s because the employers have not built the plans nor the pathways for their very workers to have what they need Teamsters Local 1932, cont. on next pg.

40-foot Christmas tree now towers in front of San Bernardino’s shuttered City Hall, drawing families to 290 N. D Street after the city’s annual tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 4. The relocation of the tree from Court

Street Square to the main downtown corridor was intentional, city leaders said, meant to bring more visibility to holiday activities and nearby businesses as Miracle on Court Street gets underway. “This new tree placement is absolutely visible to the traffic and the main corridor,” Mayor Helen Tran said. “And it’ll help

draw more attention to our Miracle on Court Street, a 10 day event that kicks off on December 10th.” The tree lighting featured carolers, music, a countdown led by city officials and free photos with Santa in front of the decorated tree as families filled N.
