Northampton Borough Council approves 2025 budget
By KERI LINDENMUTH The Northampton Borough Council unanimously approved the 2025 budget during its meeting on Thursday, Dec. 19. This came after they approved and reviewed the draft budget on Dec. 5. This budget proposes a 1.5 mill tax increase, something Mayor Tony Pristash said is necessary. “Painful as it is, there is going to be a tax increase,” he said. “For the safety and welfare of the community, it is a necessity.” He said expected price increases are something the borough “has
to stay ahead of.” “We have it very good here in Northampton,” he continued, praising public works as well as the borough’s fire and police departments. The Christmas Card of Hope
By CYNTHIA JEAN DELUCA Kathleen pulled back the curtains on her front room window. It was a sunny, cold Saturday morning in November, and she was missing her mother. She could almost see her walking up the driveway as she looked out the window. She held her breath, waiting to hear the doorbell ring, then exhaled when she realized that having her mother with her would never happen again. Kathleen returned to the kitchen and looked at the calendar on the side of her white refrigerator. She turned the November page and fixed her eyes on Dec. 14. It was the day her mother had
made her journey to heaven. Kathleen wiped the tears from her eyes as she reminisced about everything she and her mom always shared during the weeks leading up to Christmas. They were both known for their love of collecting antiques and little trinkets. It was one of many things they loved to do on weekends. When her mother passed, Kathleen stopped doing the little things that brought her joy. On Saturday morning, Kathleen made her bed, she picked up her mother’s picture and gently held it to her heart.
