The Indian Ocean is one of the world’s best destinations to experience crystal clear water visibility and rich marine life. Maamunagau Island is blessed with a large lagoon which surrounds the entire island and is home to several snorkelling spots, thriving with diverse fish, black tip reef sharks, dolphins and turtles. During the months of August – November, guests can swim among majestic manta rays in the Maamunagau house reef as the mantas migrate between atolls.
Guests can enjoy a plethora of watersports and excursions in the turquoise waters of the islands lagoon or journey to nearby snorkelling and dive spots in Raa Atoll. Guests can book selected activities at the Marine Centre. Please note that all water activities are dependent on availability, weather and for certain activities, there are age restrictions.

The Maamunagau lagoon is an important feeding ground for juvenile manta rays as the large lagoonal system provides protective shelter from predators and an abundance of planktonic food for many juveniles during the North East monsoon months of December to April.
