IT ALL STARTS WITH TRACTION Our original purpose is to empower and inspire people to get out and move more. In a practical way we do this by providing unique traction technologies for all kinds of slippery surfaces and inviting others to join us. We can all enjoy being active outdoors without having to compete about the resources, growing the totality of health and happiness. Solving a real problem has been the key to our success and making products that people need is imperative for using resources responsibly and the foundation for sustainability. Besides, without traction you don’t get anywhere, and we’ve got to keep going as we’re on this incredibly important journey…

THE QUEST FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE As we’ve matured, we’ve added to our purposes. We aim to develop good work, that also works on developing people to the better (that means us, we’re people!). And we strive to be a change maker for our industry, and indeed business in general, to become fully sustainable. To create the change needed, being a forerunner is not enough. For example tackling the climate crise will be a team effort, where success will not be determined by who get’s to net zero first, but that a critical mass do it according to the roadmap. FOLLOW THE FOOTPRINTS 2021 we’re starting a new era of radical transparency in the performance footwear industry: Making it possible to see the environmental footprint of a product and trace the materials to the factories, simply by scanning a QR code on the product that leads to the sustainability key indicator score. We do this because trust has to be deserved. And we also do it for the bigger picture. Sustainability wins have to be measured by how replicable and scalable they are. Icebug’s sustainability work is focused on minimizing negative impact of the materials and processes that we use the most and on the entire collection, not special projects that get a lot of attention but have small actual impact. By opening our supply chain, we remove obstacles for other footwear brands to change to more sustainable materials. And when they do, we all win. In the mean time, the transparency will serve to back our claim that Icebug is a more sustainable option. And that when replacing a standard material shoe with an Icebug shoe, it’s a sustainability win.

The first footprint calculations of three styles show that we have reduced the carbon emissions per style with 16 – 29 % compared with the same shoes made of standard materials. Which is roughly how Icebug shoes were made at our baseline year 2015, meaning that we have reduced the negative product impact on climate by at least 15% per pair of shoes since 2015. We’re well on track to reach our goal to reduce climate emissions by at least 50 % by 2030, the pathway needed to stay below 1.5 degrees global warming. You’re welcome to follow our footprints!

BLOOM® foam • BLOOM® foam have similar material properties to EVA, the most common material used for midsoles and insoles. • Gives less CO2 emissions. • By harvesting the algae and recirculating the fresh water back it also helps to keep the nature in balance by removing harmful and toxic algae growth. • By mixing virgin EVA with BLOOM® foam, it lowers our dependency on non-renewable oil based resources.

RECYCLED WOOL FROM WOOLPOWER • Upcycling waste material. • Has a minimum of 50 % wool content. • Reduce the water consumption, energy use and the land used for sheep grazing. • Minimizes the pollution of air, water, and soil as well as reducing CO2 emissions compared to virgin wool. • We keep the colors that the wool product already has from its first lifecycle, thus avoiding the use of adding dying chemicals. • Excellent wicking capabilities (moving moisture to the outer surface). • Mulesing free (mulesing is a cruel method to reduce wool parasites).

Leather Working group (LWG) LWG organizes the leather manufacturing industry to make sustainability improvements. An LWG certified factory has reduced water and energy use, harmful chemicals and improved the working environment. Leather factories (tanneries) can become LWG Gold, Silver or Bronze rated. Icebug uses only Gold rated leather (except for safety shoes).
