WE TAKE THE LEAD – AGAIN In 2019, Icebug became the world’s first climate positive shoe company (according to the UNFCCC). We have since spent a lot of time sharing how we managed to do it so that more companies could make the same journey. By ourselves, we make little difference, but the entire shoe industry accounts for as much as almost 2% of the World’s total CO2 emissions. We thought there would be an explosion of other brands also becoming climate neutral or positive, but the development has been disappointing. What we now do is unique by combining publicly reporting on CO2 footprints and the other most important sustainability indicators, while providing full transparency in the supply chain. Just as we have learned from the sustainability work of others, we hope that others will continue building on our work.

In the long run, we are all winners if other shoe brands can switch from standard materials to more sustainable alternatives. Trust has to be earned We’re starting a new era of radical transparency in the footwear industry by swinging the doors to our supply chain open and inviting scrutiny. We start reporting the most important sustainability indicators, that measure what we and other shoe companies have as our biggest environmental impact: CO2 emissions and the use of non-renewables – mainly oil – as the source for raw materials. We publish the key sustainability indicators for all footwear models and also tell you exactly where our shoes and materials have been made. To our best knowledge, this makes us the most transparent sports shoe company in the world.

NEW: ORGANIC DENIM – NUDIES LEFTOVERS • We got an opportunity to buy leftover denim from Nudie jeans. • Limited quantity means limited edition, probably only SS22. • Denim with 98 % organic GOTS certified cotton, made in Italy. • Low impact dyeing by supplier Candianis Indigo Juice method. • As Cotton in general uses lots of chemicals and water, Icebug will not drive consumption by using virgin cotton in regular Collections. The produced cotton is better used in high quality garments where it’s really needed for it’s strength etc.

BLOOM® foam • BLOOM® foam of algae have similar material properties to EVA, the most common material used for midsoles and insoles. • By harvesting the algae and recirculating the fresh water back it helps to keep the nature in balance by removing harmful and toxic algae growth. • Mixing virgin EVA with BLOOM® foam lowers our dependency on non-renewable oil based resources. • The algae of 1 kg BLOOM® foam cleans 2 253 liters of water and capture 1 kg CO2 from the air, reducing the climate emissions.

BIOSOLE™ – OUTSOLE OF NATURAL RUBBER • Natural rubber replaces synthetic rubber and reduce oil dependency. • Natural rubber has about half the climate impact of synthetic rubber. • Biosole™ contains 62 % natural rubber, 7 % synthetic rubber and 31 % non-oil based fillers and agents. • Good grip all year around. • Soft rubber at all temperatures. • Excellent abrasion properties, making the sole last longer.

RECYCLED WOOL FROM WOOLPOWER • Upcycling waste material. • Has a minimum of 50 % wool content. • Reduce the water consumption, energy use and the land used for sheep grazing. • Minimizes the pollution of air, water, and soil as well as reducing CO2 emissions compared to virgin wool. • We keep the colors that the wool product already has from its first lifecycle, thus avoiding the use of adding dying chemicals. • Excellent wicking capabilities (moving moisture to the outer surface). • Mulesing free (mulesing is a cruel method to reduce wool parasites).
