If we believe that the World needs to be on a strict CO2 budget and that a 50% emission cut is needed by 2030, we need to get on that program too, and we can’t air freight products home just to catch the sales. Since we don’t have to satisfy the stock market or venture capitalists, the boundary is not “we will do this as long as it doesn’t hurt our profit”. Growth and profit don’t have a real value for us by themselves, but only to secure our survival and as a means to make more impact towards our vision. To make this happen we need to change the culture around us, to a culture where resources are respected, to a culture where taking care of things you already own gives more of a kick than buying new stuff, to a culture where the quality of an experience isn’t measured by how exotic or flashy it is, when spending some time in the forest together with people you like can be just as or even more fulfilling. To a business culture where you don’t prioritize your short-term profit over long term effects on people and nature.

The decisive decade 2020-2030 has been named the “decisive decade”, where we need to take action to counter climate change and biodiversity loss, and we believe that’s true. We’re now a couple of days into the second year of it. These times call for all of us to find our inner motivation for becoming our version of activists, to find what we love and how we want to protect that.

FAIR WEAR FOUNDATION   Icebug is member of Fair Wear Foundation, an international non-profit organization with focus on labour conditions in garment and footwear production. The mission is to help the industry to secure safe, dignified and properly paid employment for their workers.

FSC® certified Natural rubber in outsoles We initiated a collaboration with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) and other footwear brands to develop FSC® certified footwear rubber supply chain in Thailand. FSC secures sustainable forestry (rubber farming) and good working conditions and traceability in the whole value chain. Icebug is now FSC certified (license code: FSC-C173562) and so is the whole value chain. We source FSC certified natural rubber from small holder farmers in Thailand, where we also invited other footwear brands to increase the volumes and keep the farmers and processor motivated. For SS23 several styles will be FSC certified with FSC rubber in the outsoles.

Solar energy on factories roof We teamed up with Clean Energy Investment Agency (CEIA) and other brands to offer our partner factories in Vietnam favorable rooftop solar energy. The feasibility studies show potential for up to 67% savings of climate emissions, plus cheaper energy, a real win-win! Great Process and Haksan, together producing the majority of Icebugs shoes, joined the purchase process early 2022. We expect the SS23 styles to get lower energy footprint thanks to this project.

Full leather traceability by SPOOR Icebug runs a pilot project with Danish SPOOR and Ecco Leather that enables tracing of the leather origin back to the farm - and even to the unique animal! So we know that this leather is from healthy and well treated cows from Danish farms which assures no deforestation and good working conditions. The SPOOR leather also comes with specific climate data with lower emissions than today. Of course we also keep the excellent features of Eccos Dritan leather with Leather Working Group (LWG) gold standard. The Dritan method saves chemicals, water and energy.

Running We provide the best traction for your runs. Carefully selected and tested materials with as low environmental footprint as possible. We create shoes that is for everyone, from the elite orienteering racer to the recreational summer day gravel road runner. With organic minimalism and clever choices our running shoes give you a comfy, sustainable run.

Aura RB9X® Aura is a running shoe made for asphalt and gravel road running. The main aim when designing this shoe was putting comfort first. The last of the Aura RB9X® is wide and with a straight big toe line and a drop of 6mm. It has a soft yet energy returning midsole, made from BUGforce® and BLOOM® Foam EVA creating a smooth ride. The BUGforce® is not only propelling you forward but it also prolongs the midsole compound´s performance and lifetime, by not getting compressed as fast as normal EVA. The comfort is also enhanced by the OrthoLite® HybridPlus-Bio™ insock containing 57% eco content (plant based oil and recycled material).

The airy upper is made of PET with 70% recycled content.The carefully engineered mesh zones gives structure where needed and allows us to reduce unnecessary reinforcement material. Lowering both the weight and the environmental impact. The rear pointing heel shape reduces pressure on the achilleas tendon as well as providing an easy and convenient instep. The gentle heel cup shape keeps your foot in place. The cut-outs around the eyestay makes it wrap perfectly around the foot, adapting seamlessly to each individual preference. The tongue has been designed with elastic bands on the sides, ensuring that you get the absolute best fit regardless of foot shape and giving that snug feeling. The rubber outsole has been designed to be better suited for asphalt and gravel running compared to our other running shoes. It has half the lug depth as Arcus which still gives a high amount of traction compared to competitors on the market. The rubber is opened in the middle and in the back, below the heelbone, to give a softer heel strike.

Pytho6 RB9X® Pytho is a popular style that has been around for many years – this is the sixth generation! – the combination of medium drop, torsional rigidity and a spacious, protective toe box is clearly a winning concept. It has a responsiveness and agility not often found in such a comfortable and long distance capable shoe. Since this is the go to shoe for many runners we felt it was time to make a true summer version. We sat the bar high and aimed for a shoe that would combine comfort, breathability, low water absorption and serious strength for really tough terrain. And of course a sole with the same great traction and running feel as the winter version. Pytho6 RB9X® gives you a great mix between agile ground control and nice cushioning, a shoe ready for harsh terrain long runs.

It has a stable and responsive midsole with 20% BLOOM® foam. The cleat pattern is developed in close cooperation with Swedish top orienteerer and sky runner Tove Alexandersson. Large cleats widely spread and facing many different directions to give superior grip regardless of the angle of impact. We use a very strong and durable upper, solution dyed to reduce the water consumption. Thanks to it’s inherent transparency we could celebrate the internal structure and let it play a big part in the look of the shoe. The stone inspired pattern provides great caging for your foot keeping it in place even during the most technical and fast runs.

Eli RB9X® GTX Eli is one of our most beloved Icebug styles, with appreciated features such as great fit, soft comfort and minimalistic looks that works for any kind of occasion. This style is taking Eli to the next level, making it ready for all kinds of summer weather by adding a waterproof membrane to it. To keep Eli’s super comfy feeling, we are using GoreTex Invisible Fit membrane, being thinner and softer than the “normal” GTX booty construction. A durable toecap is also added due to the technical construction of the GTX Invisible Fit membrane, but it also provides extra protection and wear resistance - perfect for an adventure ready lifestyle shoe. Our aim when creating Eli GTX was to further develop the features of Eli to something that you can use for everyday exploring.

Aura ReWool Biosole™ When designing the Aura ReWool the focus was on making a shoe that can offer great walking comfort and foot climate for the user, to create a summer shoe that breathes well and feels super-comfy. Aura ReWool is like putting on a slipper and walking on clouds. The aim for the entire upper and the red thread throughout the design has been to use natural materials. Not just to consider the fibre used in the upper but to also pay attention to the smaller details, such as the toe reinforcement and the heel and eyestay lining. To step away from the use of plastics and move towards natural materials. Tencel mixed with BCI cotton is used as a toe reinforcement and felted wool as heel and eyestay lining.

KNITTED RECYCLED WOOL

Wool is such a perfect material to use when the goal is to create good foot climate and together with the airy knitted upper it really serves its purpose on this shoe. Wool also has a “self-cleaning” ability, making it a perfect companion throughout the summer adventures. The entire upper is designed as a one layer engineered knit to keep it as airy and thin as possible. We are using 50% ReWool in the upper, as recycled wool has a far lower impact on the environment than what virgin wool has. But in order to give the shoe an abrasion resistance, so that you can use it for as long as possible, it is mixed with 50% recycled polyester that has been solution dyed. Midsole This is a shoe that is easy to put on and that gives great cushioning and comfort. The midsole is soft and has energy returning BUGforce mixed with BLOOM® algae EVA. Outsole The outsole is grippy, soft and durable Biosole™; 60% natural rubber and 15% recycled Biosole™ rubber and the EVA/BLOOM® insock is lined with recycled felted wool from Woolpowers production.
