Green Friday

Through its Green Friday initiative, Icebug turns Black Friday into a platform for climate action. All Green Friday sales support NGOs working to protect nature, biodiversity, and old- growth forests in Sweden and abroad.

The initiative challenges overconsumption and demonstrates how business can take responsibility by directing profits toward the protection of vital ecosystems.

Solar rooftop project

Icebug supports its factory partners in cutting emissions across the supply chain by investing in solar energy. Our Tier 1 partners have either completed or are in the process of getting solar panels, a shift that significantly reduces climate impact.

By enabling access to renewable power, Icebug helps create measurable change that benefits multiple brands and makes a real difference.

Our shoes are designed not only to be produced with the smallest possible climate footprint but also to last a really long time.

Therefore, we only work with carefully selected factories and choose materials of really high quality.

Natural vs synthetic materials

At Icebug, we manufacture shoes in both leather and recycled synthetic materials. For us, the function and purpose of the shoes are decisive.

For fast trail shoes, we choose ultra-light mesh materials, while classic boots like Adak are made of leather. Regardless of which shoe you choose, you can trust that it is made to last for a long time.

Studs that can handle everything

Our studs with carbide steel tips are made to give you a comfortable and safe experience for many years, and it’s practically impossible to wear them out. If you do manage to lose a stud, we’ll send you new ones completely free of charge!

Durable rubber

All of Icebug’s rubber compounds—RB9X, Michelin, and the brand-new Nordic Traction— are engineered with exceptional abrasion resistance, demonstrating outstanding durability in rigorous field tests. With over 20 years of expertise in crafting high-performance rubber soles, Icebug is confident that these materials not only endure but exceed expectations.

Coupled with the advanced cleat design, our rubber compounds consistently deliver on Icebug’s brand promise: Superior Traction.

Timeless Design

One often-overlooked reason shoes end up forgotten in closets or discarded is due to fast-changing fashion trends. To counter this, Icebug embraces a timeless design philosophy. Many of our styles have maintained a consistent look over the years, as we avoid fleeting trends and fast fashion cycles.

While we make thoughtful updates and improvements, our goal is to create shoes that will look just as good in a decade as they do today, ensuring they remain both functional and stylish for the long run.

Designing for longevity

Every activity presents unique challenges, and each shoe faces specific points of wear and tear. To maximize durability and function, Icebug designs with these factors in mind. For instance, our inner heel and toe reinforcements are made from 60% recycled plastic, including 11-12% recycled nylon from fishing nets, ensuring these high-wear areas stand up to daily use.

Embracing a minimalist approach, we eliminate unnecessary, delicate components to create footwear that truly lasts.

We are far from perfect but here’s some of the materials, certifications and technologies that make our production more sustainable and more durable.

®

Bio-based material from corn that is used in midsoles to replace EVA that derives from fossil fuels.

BLOOM®

Replaces fossil fuels with a bio based material that’s literally green: algae harvested from harmful blooms to restore balance to natural ecosystems.

Milspeed®

Giving end of life fishing nets a new life as footwear recycled nylon components.

Ocean RePet

Recycled polyester that comes from plastic waste collected from the ocean.

Woolpower

®

We use upcycled wool scraps from the Swedish Woolpower clothing factory needle-felted and mixed with synthetics to increase durability and longevity of the product.

Ortholite

® insoles

A polyurethane based insole that is used in some of Icebug’s insoles.The Ortholithe® materials contain 15-43 % recycled PU foam and 5-7 % recycled rubber.

SuperC Foam

™

A fluid foaming process with Nitrogen gas instead of using chemical agents making a midsole with cushioning that lasts longer and has lower weight.

Cordura

® RE/COR™

A material used in some of our uppers - being 100% Nylon 6 yarn recycled from Cordura®’s production. Well-known for long lasting durability.

PFC free GORE-TEX® ePE

From FW24 our styles uses only PFC free ePE membranes from GORE-TEX, and Icebugs own PFC free membrane BUGDri™.

Sugarcane

Sugarcane used in shoe midsoles is a renewable, bio-based material fermented from sugarcane waste into ethanol, which is then transformed into lightweight EVA foam.

From a sustainable point of view, it:

- Reduces carbon footprint

- Uses a renewable resource

- Reduces waste

And performance-wise, it is:

- Lightweight

- Shock-absorbent

- Durable

TECHNOLOGIES

Solution dyed

The color dye is added during the liquid stage prior to being cooled, and then it is spun into yarn. It’s a technique that reduces the use of water and chemicals when dyeing fabrics compared to traditional wet processes.

CERTIFICATIONS & STANDARDS

Standard 100 by OEKOTEX®

Globally standardized, independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate & end products of all processing stages and accessory materials used.

OBP certified

Zero Plastic Oceans developed the Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Certification Program in collaboration with the certification group Control Union. Ocean Bound Plastic is plastic waste defined as “at risk of ending up in the ocean” and that has been collected from nature.

GRS certified

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a full product standard to verify and track recycled raw materials through the supply chain.

LWG Gold Standard

Since several years Icebug has only used leather that is Gold standard rated by the Leather Working Group (LWG), except for safety shoes with specific requirements.

Bluesign®

Every item carrying a bluesign PRODUCT or APPROVED label has been manufactured to strict safety and environmental requirements. Known as the bluesign CRITERIA, these are the highest standards in the industry.

RB9X ™

RUBBER COMPOUND

Rubber 9 Extreme (RB9X™) is Icebug’s own groundbreaking rubber compound development. It sets a whole new standard in providing traction on, specially, wet surfaces. The RB9X™ sole compound has 26 % natural and 15% recycled rubber content. Lab tests (SATRA) show that RB9X™ outgrips the competition on both dry and wet surfaces but still matches the durability (DIN53516 < 120) of an asphalt running shoe. In real action that means up-graded and long-lasting traction reliability in wet and slippery conditions.

The rubber compound is only one of the two components that decide the traction of a shoe, the other is the tread pattern.

SOLE TECH - TREAD PATTERN

The depth of the lugs is a key factor that differs between the different shoes, where deeper lugs and wider grooves both provide better traction on soft surfaces and also allow more debris and mud to be pushed out.

The tractor tread pattern, with its aggressive tread design, steers dirt away to the sides in diagonal channels. For shoes targeting more urban activities, the tread patterns have less deep lugs and a design where more rubber make contact with the ground.

BUGrip ®

SOLE TECH - DYNAMIC STUDS

BUGrip® is the name of Icebug’s traction technology for the most slippery conditions, made of a special rubber compound, with 23 % natural rubber. Walking styles also have 20% recycled rubber compound. There are 14–19 integrated steel studs with tips made of carbide steel which makes them extremely durable.

The design of the studs, together with the properties of the rubber, gives these studs a dynamic function. The studs work individually and are not entirely fixed. When body weight is added during a step, the studs are pushed into the surface of the sole. How far they are pushed depends on the surface type and how forcefully the foot is placed. The dynamic function allows the studs to adapt to any surface and provide the best possible traction on everything from dry asphalt to pure ice.

OLX

SOLE TECH - FIXED STUDS

The Fixed Studs do not adjust to the surface like the Dynamic Studs in the BUGrip® system, instead they are always exposed and grip whatever surface that comes in their way. With Fixed Studs it’s possible to make the sole relatively thin which saves weight and improves the ground control.

The Fixed Studs system is exclusively used in shoes for very demanding terrain, where reliable traction is of utmost importance. The studs are made of steel and has carbide steel tips, which makes them almost impossible to wear down.

NORDIC TRACTION ™

RUBBER COMPOUND

Nordic Traction™ (NT) is our latest rubber compound and marks a new milestone in performance and durability. The outstanding traction and abrasion properties are achieved by combining the exact right amounts and qualities of some of the best components on the market.

We choose sustainably sourced natural rubber for its superb grip and sought out synthetic rubber for its abrasion resistance. 49% of the Nordic Traction™ compound is FSC© natural rubber. The result of this combination is a very durable outsole compound with amazing properties that still delivers top-level traction and comfort even in really cold temperatures.

Myr RB9X™

Trail running shoe made for recreational runners that train for a healthy lifestyle.

Myr is a lightweight and well-cushioned trail running shoe that is made for recreational runners that train for a healthy lifestyle. It’s a great choice for someone who wants to run on a mix of surfaces, since it also works well on gravel and hard ground without compromising grip.

The upper is made of a light and breathable engineered jaquard mesh to elevate both performance and comfort. The shoe has a laminated mudguard extending over the big toe area to provide extra protection and longevity.

The high-stacked midsole is made of an eTPU compound and it balances responsiveness and cushioning perfectly. The eTPU is lighter than traditional EVA but still performs better over time. The 8mm drop, together with a great roll, aim at all mid-foot and heel strikers that look for comfort, and the padding and last are both designed to maximize running experience on longer runs. Completed with Icebug’s grippy RB9X™ rubber compound and traction pattern, the runner can relax also in rocky terrain even if it’s raining.

Pytho 7 RB9X™

Trail running shoe that offers aggressive grip, stability, and a snug fit with room for the toes.

Pytho has been around for many years – this is the seventh generation! – and it combines features that many runners appreciate; medium drop, torsional rigidity and a spacious, protective toe box.

The woven engineered upper is extremely light and durable, it also keeps the water absorption to a minimum resulting in almost no weight increase in wet conditions. A laminated mudguard around the entire shoe protects when the trail gets more technical. The tongue only has a thin padding to enhance the direct feeling.

The midsole has a 40% biobased sugarcane content and provides a great mix of torsional rigidity and toe flex, which in practice means support in technical terrain and superb ground control when increasing the speed. The 10 mm drop hits the sweet spot for a shoe targeting trail running and encourages high speed but also goes well with long recreational runs.

The outsole has the traction benchmark RB9X rubber compound and a tread pattern made to grip also in muddy conditions.

Rover 2 RB9X™ GTX

Featuring our uncompromising RB9X™ grip rubber, a durable CORDURA® ripstop upper, and the BOA® Fit System instead of laces, Rover 2 handles any challenge.

Rover is a shoe made for long comfortable walks and speed hikes in all kinds of weather and terrain. The upper is made of a recycled and very durable ripstop CORDURA® polyester and a GORE-TEX® ePE membrane that keeps water out and the foot dry. Reflective details improve visibility in the dark.

The BOA® Fit System secures perfect upper fit with even closure and very convenient handling. The outsole pattern is designed to grip in mud as well as on rocks and together with the RB9X™ rubber compound it provides superb traction on both dry and wet surfaces. High torsion, a fully cushioned BUGforce midsole and a roomy toebox are features that make adventures out in nature enjoyable.

Humle Easy In RB9X™

A versatile sneaker offering exceptional comfort and traction, turning even the longest walks into pure enjoyment.

Humle Easy In RB9X is designed for everyday use by anyone with an active lifestyle. It’s a shoe you can walk in for hours while keeping your feet and legs feeling fresh at the end of the day.

The upper is made from suede leather and recycled polyester. The soft inner lining is crafted from recycled nylon, and the heel collar features comfortable padding. Humle has elastic laces, making it easy to put on and take off.

The cushioned midsole delivers excellent rebound and performs on par with modern lightweight EVA, with the added benefit of being made from 40% bio-based sugarcane for a more sustainable footprint.

The RB9X™ outsole contains natural and recycled rubber, providing best-in-class traction on both dry and wet surfaces such as cobblestones, rocks, and city pavements.

Kvill RB9X™

Cool and contemporary sandal for any summer activity.

Kvill RB9X, the first ever Icebug sandal! The upper material is a knitted Ocean RePet Polyester that keeps the feet cool and comfortable even on warm days. The upper has a zoned elastic area on top of the foot for added comfort. The heel strap is adjustable which enables both finding the perfect fit but also makes it easy to take on and off.

Kvill has a very comfortable platform, made in collaboration with an insole manufacturer INSITE® that has built the shape closest to the foot based on thousands of scans on feet. This has helped us to find the perfect shape for a supportive and comfortable footbed.

The responsive and cushioned midsole provides great energy return and incorporates 24% bio-based sugarcane to reduce environmental impact. The RB9X™ outsole contains natural and recycled rubber, providing best-in-class traction on both dry and wet surfaces.
