Letter from the President October 2026

Dear ICA Cristo Rey Community, The story of Brenda Duran Gonzalez '26 shows the power of an ICA Cristo Rey education: after four years working in law firms and local non profits, she earned a full ride to St. Olaf’s College on a competitive Posse Scholarship. She represents what we strive for in every student, where they realize their potential. As a member of the Cristo Rey Network of high schools, ICA Cristo Rey launches students into corporate careers the same day they open their textbooks. Everyone graduates with a high school diploma and a resume with four years of real-world experience. Real work in real corporate offices, one day out of the week. Thanks to the support of our Corporate Work Study partners, students own their future.

sponsors, the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, set a clear vision. Today, this Gratitude Report proves we are living it: highquality Catholic education for every single student, regardless of financial circumstances. ICA Cristo Rey’s leadership thanks our champions who invest in our students and their futures. Our young women arrive rooted in the families that shaped them. As we watch her rise, we witness her community rise with her. Thank you for believing in our students and all that they achieve. With deepest gratitude,

Kirra Steel President

We remain one of the most affordable private school options in the nation, where families contribute as little as $500 per year, with the average family contributing $2,500. An average family contribution only covers around 9% of the total cost of educating one student. Corporate Work Study steps in to cover the gap, where students spend a day gaining professional experience in a corporate workplace that subsidizes their tuition. Supporters close the remaining funding gap not met by family contribution or Corporate Work Study earnings.

Graduating with 4 Years of Work Experience and a CNA Certificate Creating CNA education and certification pathways in partnership with the University of San Francisco

Taught by Professor Kelsey Green, DNP, MPH, BSN, RN, PHN

At the beginning of the 2026-27 school year, these 6 ICA Cristo Rey students began clinicals at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital to complete their CNA education. 06 | 2026 Gratitude Report

Driven by a love of science and passion for community, ICA Cristo Rey students chart their career journeys with health care in mind. We partnered with the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions to equip six ambitious seniors with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training and certification. Taught by Professor Kelsey Green, DNP, MPH, BSN, RN, PHN, students took on rigorous coursework over the 2026 summer. Each Friday, they studied at the university for in-person lectures and passed with a class average of 97% on the written exam. Afterwards, they participate in hands-on clinicals at Zuckerberg San

Francisco General Hospital to prepare for the CNA exam at the end of the year. As part of the Corporate Work Study program, once students pass their CNA exam, they jump straight into a career in healthcare, where they will work as CNAs at Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, CA at the start of the new calendar year. Working one day out of the week as a CNA helps offset the cost of tuition, keeping a Catholic, private education affordable. This also means real world medical experience before they graduate high school, leaving with both a diploma and a resume ready to take on their next chapter in healthcare.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Women Engineers Hosting an Intro to Engineering Camp in collaboration with UC Berkeley With the support of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, ICA Cristo Rey hosted an Intro to Engineering Summer Camp for girls ages 9-16 this past summer. Led by Dr. Maya Carrasquillo, graduate students, and three ICA students serving as Counselors-in-Training, the camp sparked a passion for engineering through hands-on learning. From construction systems to transportation engineering, all 21 campers proved they can take on any topic. No barrier stood in the way for students to access the camp, with 81% of campers receiving a scholarship to attend. Campers applied each lesson through collaborative projects where they built structures to test how water purification systems work, and

demonstrated for their families at the end of the camp. Campers attended sessions in classrooms on campus, a familiar location to the 7 campers who also attend ICA Cristo Rey. They ventured off campus and into the Bay Area, where field trips included UC Berkeley’s Structures Lab, San Francisco’s Public Utilities Commission Water Plant, and the engineering firm TYLin. Through this partnership with the #1 Civil and Environmental Engineering program in the nation, student campers gained exposure to both place and curricula designed to inspire future careers within engineering. 2026 Gratitude Report | 09

Starting Careers with Supportive Mentors Corporate Work Study provides mentorship in partnership with Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center

Our Corporate Work Study partners drive our mission forward alongside our faculty and staff in the classroom. Through an ongoing partnership with ICA Cristo Rey, Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center offers students hands-on experience to train the next generation of healthcare leaders. The power of Corporate Work Study comes down to two key benefits: exposure and access. By stepping into professional environments aligned with their goals, students spark lifelong career passions. Their hard work pays off in real time. They help fund their private education at ICA Cristo Rey as they build resumes aligned with their futures. Every student at ICA Cristo Rey participates in the Corporate Work Study program. Students attend classes

four days out of the week, and develop professional skills at corporate offices and non profits on the fifth day. While they gain exposure to different industries across the Bay Area and discover their career passions, the earnings from their Corporate Work Study placement directly offsets the cost of tuition, making ICA Cristo Rey one of the most affordable private schools in the city and the nation. Supported by dedicated mentors, students at Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center contribute to daily hospital operations and work directly in nursing units. Fiona Chiu ‘26, who worked at Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center during the 2025-26 school year, attends UC San Diego to study biology. She credits her time with Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center in shaping her academic path and inspiring her career in healthcare.

Fiona Chiu '26 Attends UC San Diego studying biology "Cris has been a very supportive supervisor. He is the one who introduced me to so many people. He has also allowed me to shadow ultrasound technicians and I value what I learn from them. From his busy schedule, he tries his best to find time to allow me to connect to these people. Along with this, his interactions with his team allow me to think of what type of working environment I would want to be in. He would conduct quick small meetings if he finds something important to review."

Cris Panaligan, Sutter Mills Peninsula Medical Center Nurse Manager, inducted into Spartan Supervisor Hall of Fame in 2026

"My experience with ICA Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study program has been extremely rewarding. As a first-time participant, I welcomed the opportunity to not only mentor a student, but also to showcase the meaningful work Mills Peninsula Medical Center provides to our community and the values upheld by Sutter Health as an organization.”

At their End of Year Showcase, then CEO of Sutter Mills Peninsual Medical Center Darian Harris and Chief Nursing Officer Kiana Player celebrated the 6 ICA Cristo Rey students placed at the medical center during the 2025-26 school year.

Next, I'm wrapping up my publications and moving into the biotech industry, where I want to turn years of basic research into RNA tools and therapeutics that actually reach people. I'm excited for this next chapter."

Inaugural Alumnae Excellence Award Cindy De Leon '17

We awarded our inaugural Alumnae Excellence Award to Cindy De Leon ‘17 at the 16th Annual Business Lunch in March 2026. This award honors an alumnae who demonstrates the Dominican pillars of study, prayer, community, and service in her everyday life. Cindy's impact today is most felt through her leadership as a Project Engineer at Cahill Contractors. As a supervisor in our Corporate Work Study (CWS) program, she supports the same company where Cindy began her career as a CWS Student Associate her freshman and sophomore years. In this powerful full-circle moment from student to mentor, Cindy now gets to pass on her wisdom, skills, and confidence to current Student Associates at Cahill Contractors. “Being a high school student in a professional setting can feel intimidating," shared Cindy De Leon. "When I became a supervisor for the Corporate Work Study program, I wanted every student I mentored to feel welcome.” Having stayed in touch with her own CWS supervisor

from her time as an ICA Cristo Rey student, Cindy understands the power of mentorship and the lasting impact of sharing her experience with the next generation of young women leaders.
