Brothers and Sisters, As we settle into the fall season, it’s time again to make our voices heard in upcoming political elections. It’s always important that we all do our part to elect proworker and pro-union candidates with a strong vision for strengthening Boston’s Union families.
Born and raised in Boston, Annissa Essaibi George understands the issues facing our City’s working families. She has fought for us each step of the way as City Councilor-at-Large. Now, IBEW Local 103 is proud to endorse Annissa in her campaign to become our next mayor because we know she has our backs.
The race for Boston’s next mayor has been highlyanticipated and closely-watched ever since former Mayor Walsh’s ascension to the U.S. Department of Labor. It’s always our priority to work hard to elect the best possible candidates, and to support those who will prioritize OUR issues, the rights of all workers, responsible development, and opportunity for all. The good news is, we have that candidate in Annissa Essaibi George. IBEW Local 103 is proud to endorse Annissa (page 3) in becoming Boston’s next mayor, because throughout her career as both an at-Large City Councilor and a public-school teacher, her core beliefs have remained unwavering. She has always shared the hard-working values of IBEW families in every neighborhood of the city. Annissa believes in service, in education, in unions, and in the opportunity we have to work together, seize the moment, and make real progress.
Annissa has a solid plan to strengthen Boston’s middle class. Before her political career, Annissa was a union member, and a schoolteacher for 13 years. She understands that an education is only as good as how accessible it is, which is why she’s prioritizing an investment in workforce training and development. Annissa understands that access to good jobs can make all the difference for individuals, for families, and for communities. If you have any questions or concerns, the union hall is always available to you. In fact, Annissa plans to establish the first-ever City of Boston Department of Economic Justice & Workers’ Rights. This department is designed to partner with Boston’s labor unions, advocate for workers, fight for fair wages, work to close the wage gap, and support and defend marginalized workers. Annissa also plans to: • Encourage the participation of union members in the political process • Support collective bargaining in the workplace • Support small businesses • Institute a $15 minimum wage • Fight for wages/benefits that correlate with the cost of living
